Jon + Justin, God bless you for being true shepherds for God's people. Thank you for giving all of Christ in preaching the real Gospel. The Gospel IS radical! Like my reformed pastor said, he has "never encountered a professing christian who asked "how much sin can I get away with and still be saved?" All true christians agonize over their struggle with sin. (Paul, Romans 7.) Raising the dead to life is radical.

This is such a great lesson!!! I’ve been broken and crying out bc I’ve been trying to figure this out and trying to understand this weight that no matter how hard I’ve tried I felt like I was getting farther away from power. And God allowed my church to force me to leave to show me how I’ve been missing this. Thank you and I’m so glad this is becoming a conversation!!

I am a 65 year old man who lives in horrible pain and is bedridden. I have heard the gospel all my life. But I have never heard the gospel this way. I live in fear because I can now do nothing for the Lord. I live in fear because I don't believe that Jesus will have me at this point because I can produce any fruit. I have read the book Rest and the last chapter on What is the Gospel sounds so inviting. But I fall back time and time again into what I have to do to be saved and live the Christian life. Theocast is the only ministry that I support on a monthly basis because it has what I want. I just don't know how to live it out. I'm so confused. I thought I knew the gospel, but this ministry tells me something different. I've sinned all my life and pushed Jesus away. I was always in a legalistic church and there was attraction to Jesus for me. I am not making excuses for my sinful life. But I want Jesus now and this Jesus proclaimed. I struggle with living for Jesus because I now feel I have to do things for Christ. I want to but I know it is in the flesh. I want to rest in Christ yet I find myself trying to gain his acceptance by works. Can anyone help me with this struggle.

Hi frankly. I was saved in 2001 at the age of 31. I was reading my newly purchased Bible and clearly saw that salvation was by God’s grace and not by my works. But it seemed a little bit too good to be true. Then, during a retreat, God seemed to directly put the question to me: “Ed, you know what I’m saying. Are you going to believe me or not”? My testimony is on my KZbin page. You can find it by searching for “Testimony of Edward Ormsby.” I hope and have prayed that you will find it useful and that you will find rest in the arms of Jesus the Savior. May I also suggest that you particularly read Romans, Chapter 5 and Romans 4:4-5. In the grace of Jesus Christ ✝️ Ed

So that is kinda contradictory.

When we examine our sanctification, is it or could it be similar as testing the spirits? We are encouraged by true moves of the Spirit but we are also corrected by the Spirit. There are also spirits that deceive us and we even deceive ourselves. All this to say I agree with much of your heart but I see part of Grace is discipline , it can feel like the law that once held us captive but even though it initially feels that way the Spirit always points to Christ as are hope. It is this work of the Spirit that causes us to want to please the Father, to run the race as Paul would say. Could we be confused at this point? 2nd half You comment that guys like John MacArthur, not by name but by implication,that there Gospel presentation confused you, but you go on, what I understood wrongly or rightly, that they preach a false Gospel or something less than the full Gospel. I was encouraged by your desire to explore the supernatural work of the Holy Spirit. It will amaze us as we discover God uses imperfect men, men that don’t meet our expectations but to say the Holy Spirit is not helping these men in there preaching of the Gospel, is not extending the Grace we are called to This is all to common and very few have any difficulty or fear of doing so.

We know you guys are not conciously antinomian. The problem is though that your theology makes antinomianism elacceptable. There is no reason why someone who believes as you do could not be antinomian. The only reason you can give not to be one is "sin has bad consequences in this life." Okay, but that does not contradict antinomianism, because antinomians historically never denied that sin leads to bad consequences. What they denied was that obedience to God was necessary to get to heaven, which is something that Theocast also denies. I say this as someone who has learned a great deal from Theocast and obtained great benefit from them. Some people may feel subjectively driven to obey God out of gratitude (even though they would also paradoxically agree that their actions do not affect God's happiness, so there is no reason to obey out of gratitutde either.) One could say "those who truly love God and who are truly saved WILL want to pbey God out of this gratitude" but that is just pietism again. Theocast's theology is designed to comfort people who want to follow God but are afraid they aren't doing enough. Unfortunately, the logic they have chosen to do this by gives free reign to the antinomians and people who don't care about obeying God to do whatever they please.

so what is the alternative? preaching law and fear? I'm genuinly asking what you think would be better than reminding people of the gospel?
@bad_covfefe
@bad_covfefe 7 ай бұрын
@jamietaylor3016 the best alternative would be to abandon Calvin's notion of a moment of salvation and salvation as a mere "not guilty" verdict altogether. This is a flaw in Protestantism, not in Pietism or in Theocast. Pietism and Theocast are both merely trying to fix a deep crack in Protrestant theology. We Eastern Orthodox (the historical Church founded by the Apostles, and that the Roman Catholic Church came from) believe that salvation is not merely a moment where we are declared "not guilty," Calvin invented that idea and Calvin was a lawyer. Go figure. Rather, we believe salvation is an ongoing process that culminates in full union and relationship with God. God loves each of us and wants us to be with Him, and He is not sitting over us angrily waiting to drop the hammer. Sin is bad and He wants us to strive to avoid sin for our own physical and spiritual sakes. We will all be with God in the end, but those who love sin will hate being near His light and glory, and for them this will be hell. Those who love God and love what is good will experience paradise with Him. Protestants read in scripture where it says wr are saved by faith and by the power of God and they interpret this to mean that God miraculously causes/predestines us to have intellectual belief, after which we are credited with salvation. What it actually means is that we must trust God and obey His commands, and in doing so we remain on the process to salvation. This is why Paul talks about us as "we who are being saved." Works do not earn salvation, but believing Christ and in that trust performing His sacramants and obeying His commands will actually build us into better people. There is no room for fear here for those who love God, it's a lifelong spiritual workout of becoming stronger to resist sin. The problem is that Protestants think the gospel is an instantaneous event where the person is credited "not guilty" instantly and then afterwards can go to heaven. Salvation is a process. The reason Paul did not question his audience's salvation is because Paul didn't believe slavation had already occurred for them, but was an ongoing process. This, there was nothing to question: their salvation was not done yet, which is again why Paul refers to "we who are BEING saved."

@@bad_covfefe I understand what you're saying. I grew up Catholic. Why did orthodoxy split from Catholicm? I struggle with both but at the end of the day, the only thing that makes me "act better" is looking to the cross, not my own self-performance. Most Protestants don't really believe in a "say a prayer you're saved" but they do believe you are born-again once and the holy spirit sanctifies you. There are many false conversions but those people have not been pluched from darkness to light. My confusion with catholicism/orthodoxy is the sepration part.. for exmaple, you can be a great Christian all your life and committ a "mortal sin" and be sent to hell. what justified that sin to be bad enough for hell? That's the part growing up Catholic I didn't understand.
@bad_covfefe
@bad_covfefe 7 ай бұрын
@@jamietaylor3016 "at the end of the day, the only thing that makes me "act better" is looking to the cross, not my own self-performance." The problem is that under this ideology, you don't need to act better at all. Your works, according to Theocast, say nothing, so there is no reason for you to act better, it's entirely optional. You might feel compelled to act better, but if someone else doesn't feel compelled to act better, then according to Theocast's ideology, that's just fine. "Why did orthodoxy split from Catholicm?" It was the other way around, Catholicism split from Orthodoxy. The reason this occurred is because the Roman Catholic Church invented the new doctrine of Papal Supremacy, alleging that the Pope/Bishop of Rome had total authority over all the other bishops in Christendom. The other bishops refused this new development, and excommunicated Rome. Rome then went on to invent many new innovations to the faith such as Papal Infallibility. "My confusion with catholicism/orthodoxy is the sepration part.. for exmaple, you can be a great Christian all your life and committ a "mortal sin" and be sent to hell." That is indeed confusing, but Orthodoxy does not believe that. We do not have the concept of mortal/venial sins. We do not believe that there is a special type of sin that if you commit and die without confessing it sends you immediately to hell. That is again a Roman Catholic innovation. Where Rome is comfortable inventing new doctrines as they see fit, we Orthodox stick to the faith once and for all delivered to the saints. Those who met the Apostles knew better than we know today, and so we follow their guidance. In Protestantism there is no guidance on how to interpret scripture, and so you end up with thousands of different branches all claiming they are following the Bible.

What is the purpose of the human being?? To lie about God.... And once you know why this is the purpose of the human being you can then do what Jesus did and impersonalize all that is mortal and not of God. All that is of God is Infinite, and what is not Infinite is of the World Mind Belief in a Life Separate and Apart from God. This experience/dream is not for the mortal body, meaning you or me. It is for the Soul/Spirit of God to Experience. This is the true message of the Realized Christ of Jesus..... If I speak of myself I bear witness to a lie....(If I entertain a belief that I am a human being that has been born and can die I am living a lie). In proportion to our abandonment of God are we taken care of by God. Therefore, we must surrender to the Will of God if we truly Desire to Discern the Movements of God within, as God conducts his Will in ways that oppose human will and understanding. We must Remove the False Mortal Image of a mortal ME separate and apart from God.... The Christ(Realization of Spiritual Immortality)is the act of Eternal Life living Within its own Infinity, and becomes Demonstrable through the Receptivity of the Crucifixion of the Self separate and apart from God.... The Christ is ALWAYS ALIVE IN US, but we must be Alive to the Christ.... When we are not attuned to Divine Consciousness(Eternal Life, Immortality, Truth, God), by default, we are attuned to Mortal Consciousness(karmic death, mortality, form, fear, evil, etc).... Every communication Unfolding from God within is to encourage the Spirit/Soul die to the False Sense of Mortal Self, as the Purpose of the Soul is to take Dominion over our only Adversary, the World Mind and it's thoughts tempting us to believe mortality/form/decay is reality... The Christ asks one thing of us: Crucify the Belief in a mortal Me Separate and Apart from the Immortal, Omnipresent Spirit of God, as there is no more Glorious a Demonstration than the Transformation from mortal sense to Spiritual Immortality.... The massive wall we have built shielding us from our truth lies in intellectual concepts known as the Graven Images of Mortality experienced through the senses(including all religious beliefs). What is of God Consciousness is Infinite, and what is not of God is an Appearance of a False Image where Only God is.... Heaven is where you are and the only place that you can ever be, yet Hell is the place that you insist on experiencing by entertaining a mortal life separate and apart from God. I and the Infinite are One!!

Obedience and salvation cannot be separated. The idea that we play no role in the salvation process and are merely passive passengers along for the ride as God does it all for us while requiring nothing from us is entirely unbiblical. This line of thinking has produced the low quality expressions of american christianity. We ARE saved by grace but we are ALSO required to make the necessary life decisions to stay on the path in order to perservere. Furthermore, God doesn't "do it all" for us. He gives us the tools to be successful. It's our job to use them.

OH no no dear friend he does not just give us tools for us to reach salvation. Remember that it was by Jesus sacrifice that we were saved and that wasn't just a tool but the entire act of our salvation by grace. I understand your point of being passive, but all you can do is receive it, and to receive it you need to accept you need it, I think that is all we can do about it. The bible explain it with our condition, by the disobedience of Adam, of being sinners just as you are born, you didn't have to elaborate an evil plan to become a sinner, you were born one already. The same goes with our sanctification and justification by Jesus. And is by that act that you consequently start acting as a new born person. We do good and obey because we were saved no to be saved dear friend. Other wise your hope will rest upon your daily decisions and, oh, what a poor hope that would be, because you and me know how often we make bad decisions, right? Our hope is greater and firm, because it is upon Christ. Love and hugs to you dear one.

Yes, Theocast try to separate them. Grace and good work as its fruit. John moffat said heavy burden vs rest and joy, that you wake up worrying about your performance instead of what Christ has done for you. Why can it be joyful burden? Spurgeon said Because Christ carry the heavier part of the cross, we should also carry the easier part.
