In 1940 it was the S.S.R. Strategic Scientific Reserve. Created by then President Roosevelt. Captain Peggy Carter and Howard Stark were both members involved with that program. Ben Mendelsohn portrays the characters of Talos and Keller. Australian actor Paul Benjamin Mendelsohn, born on April 3, 1969, gained recognition in his home country for his breakthrough performance in The Year My Voice Broke (1987) before achieving global fame for his leading role in the crime drama Animal Kingdom (2010). The main purpose of this movie was to introduce audiences to a character who would play a relatively important role in the next film, Endgame. While Marvel Studios was working according to a plan for the Infinity Saga, that plan did not always go as expected. Originally Carol Danvers as Captain Marvel was supposed to be introduced sometime in Phase 2, and in fact there was storyboarding done for Avengers: Age of Ultron where Captain Marvel would have been one of the characters joining the Avengers at the end of the film when they showed War Machine, Falcon, Vision, and Wanda Maximoff being inducted into the team. Unfortunately, due to issues within the studio, the purchase of Marvel by Disney, and problems in pre-production, some films were either significantly delayed (like Ant-Man which was supposed to be released prior to Guardians of the Galaxy and this film, Captain Marvel) or cancelled entirely (like The Inhumans, which was being teased heavily in the Agents of SHIELD TV series at the time). This film was book-ended into the release order by Kevin Feige only because audiences needed to know who Carol Danvers was before the release of Endgame. It may have been that rush to produce this film (as well as some behind-the-scenes friction) that made this film not up to the usual Marvel standards audiences expected. But you finally made it! You've reached the Endgame! Can't wait to see next week's Marvel reaction!

Hey ya'll, great content as always. So the Kree are actually two races. One is totally human in appearance, one human in appearance except for being blue. Yondu was not a Kree, but Ronan the Accuser was. The movie Carol picks up in Blocbuster is "The Right Stuff". It's about the early days of the American Space program. Before he passed, Stan Lee shot a few of his cameos to be banked for these movies. You haven't seen his last one yet.

Given that in Guardians, Ronan was identified as Kree, as well as the bureaucrat on the vid to Xandar, but that Dijon Hounsou's Korath was not, your confusion is understandable. Of course, if that were the case, Mar-Vell would have had a hard time bending in on earth, and Yon-Rogg and the Supreme Intelligence would have had a harder time convincing "Vers" she was Kree. 16:56 This scene is important. Stan Lee's first movie was a scene in that movie he is reading the script for, Mallrats. Stan couldn't remember his lines, so he had to do the scene reading cue cards, which is why he is here reading the lines out loud. It also mad Kevin Smith, a HUGE comic book fan cry cause it means HIS whole movie universe, (Clerks, Mallrats, Something About Amy, Clerks 2, etc) is all canon in the Marvel Universe of films.... -Captain Marvel has been around in different iterations and names probably as long as the Avengers have been around. They changed some of the origin slightly. I think she is significant to future Marvel cause she is the reason X-Men Rogue gets her powers....

It wasn’t only about Carol trusting the Skrulls who had long been her enemies…it wouldn’t have taken her long being on earth after that vision to start thinking she was human or at least humanish? Then 2 humans know you, have stories about you, and pictures and such…so is her enemy really her enemy if the Kree are not even her ppl? Humans don’t got no problem with the skrulls (yet). Thats why Talos could speak so confidently to her because it was kind of clear she’d been played at that point, even without his extra info.

A funny thing about the Kree Supreme Intelligence is that in the comics it was depicted as a giant blobby green head with wires or hoses coming off of it. Definitely more horror than the VR AI we get here. Old Marvel isn't mostly suits, and neither was old DC. Batman, for instance, used to just wear cloth, and we often saw heroes with torn costumes (as you saw in the Maguire Spider-Man). But at some point everybody started wearing Kevlar, etc., to explain how they would face the average villain carrying a gun. The Skrulls (green / chameleon) showed up in Marvel in the very beginning, slightly before the Kree (blue / human), both nasty. Thanos was originally an Iron Man villain, but he became the main villain for Captain Marvel, when Marvel was male. Speaking of the male / female thing, I don't think anybody has a problem with that. I think one of the problems, though, is power creep. The Captain Marvel in this movie is insanely powerful, much more powerful than Thor or the Hulk, for instance. IMO, the closer you are to street level, the easier it is for writers to come up with stories that have proper stakes. When you get heroes that are super mega powerful, it seems like plot holes sprout up everywhere.

You do know Carol Danvers, if you saw the old 90's X-Men cartoon where Rogue could fly, was super strong and tough. She stole those powers from Carol Danvers (who was the original Ms Marvel at the time.) The movie streamlined and re-imagined the rather convoluted history of Carol and Captain Marvel (Mar-Vell). Easter-egg- Little Monica aka "Lt. Trouble" would take on the name Captain Marvel in the comics long before Carol took on the mantle. In the MCU she pops up as an adult in a Disney+ series. (I'll avoid spoilers and not tell you which one.)

"A race car driver's seat is sometimes also called a cockpit. The original meaning was literally "pit where a cockfight happens," and in the 1700s cockpit became the Royal Navy's term for the area where a coxswain, or ship's pilot, was stationed." - vocabulary website. I would have liked to seen her drop this but of knowledge, perhaps, during the 'stand up' scene.

There is so much controversy around this movie and this character I don’t even know where to begin. This was the most dishonest and conniving and manipulative I’ve ever seen Hollywood be and it was all right out in the open. 1) Carol Danvers was never a popular comic book character. She never had good sales and even after this movie her sales didn’t go up. She had her own Comic Book since the 90s and she was so unpopular that they rebranded/rebooted her about every two years. They tried to make her character work, but they were never able to get it right. 2) The REAL Captain Marvel in the comics was Monica Rambeau. But they demoted her to being the child of the best friend of Carol Danvers and white washed the first Captain Marvel. 3) The Skrulls were always the bad guys in the comics. Yet another massive change by Marvel/Disney that Comic Book junkies were not happy with. 4) You were right. This movie was very much shoehorned in. And it was marketed as though you HAD to see this in order to understand Endgame. And since Endgame was 100% going to be one of the top grossing movies of all time, and they KNEW it, this was just a money grab attempt with a character that was supposed to become the next “leader“ of the Avengers. It was brilliant marketing, but it was deceitful as all hell. In my personal opinion, she wasn’t necessary to even exist in the MCU at all. Without any spoilers, everything she did in Endgame could’ve been done by Thor or the Hulk. 🤷🏻‍♀️ But they just had to have a OP female character to “lead“ the MCU going forward. 5) Even though many people did see this in the theaters, the studio lied about and manipulated the numbers dramatically. They would go to inner cities and contact children’s groups and organizations across the nation and around the world and gave out millions of free tickets… Which added to their ticket “sales“. Even though most went unused, thus having dozens of reports of near empty theaters in the first opening days. This was specifically done to put it into the publics minds that this was a good movie/character/concept that “everybody“ liked and wanted to see. It was their attempt to manipulate the public into liking this character and excepting her without question. 6) The next step in manipulation involved the movie review site rotten tomatoes. The reviews started coming in, mostly like what you guys said. It was kind of fun to watch, but the storyline wasn’t there and the character was unlikable. But Marvel/Disney didn’t want that to be the narrative. Considering that Kathleen Kennedy, Kevin Fiege, and many other high-ranking, Disney people had started the marketing of the M-SHE-U, as opposed to the MCU, because that’s the direction they wanted to take the franchise. 🤢😝 So they got rotten tomatoes to delete tens of thousands of negative or unflattering reviews from real people. Because they deleted the scores and reviews, the “audience rating“ for the movie went up dramatically. 7) But it gets worse. Google, being a part of the manipulation club got in on the act, too. Any Google searches at the time would only show positive reviews for the movie in the first several pages of the search. Not only that, since Google owns KZbin, any video reviews about the movie that weren’t positive were shadow banned. 8) Then twitter got in on it. Shadow banning happened there, too, for any negative tweets about the movie. 9) The studio paid people and created bot accounts on Twitter to give good reviews and to argue against anyone who had a bad take on the movie. 10) The media was given the script initially talking about how great the movie was and how pivotal it was to have a female, superhero lead, because people are dumb enough to think that there’s never been a female superhero lead before. 🤦🏻‍♀️ 11) But then, once the bad reviews start coming out, the studio gave the script to the media about how misogynistic it was to hate on this movie, and that the only ones who do were the sad-ass men living in their mother’s basements. 🙄 Even though the vast majority of the reviews that I saw were from female nerds who legitimately didn’t like the movie and spelled it out at length as to why they didn’t like the movie. (I vividly remember thinking when all this was happening five years ago that if tech companies and the media were willing to go through this much trouble and manipulation for a stupid movie, what else would they be willing to do to usher people in the direction they wanted them to go? And then 2020 started. 👀) 12) And the nail in the coffin was Brie Larson herself saying that specifically white men did not need to “be at the table“ when reviewing her movies. Even though white men are the majority of the comic book readers and MCU movie goers. But even with that poor judgment aside, this movie was not well received from the very start and it just got worse as time went on. But everyone liked the cat. 🐈🤩😍💙💙💙

Since 1993, I've been a huge fan of Carol Danvers. RIP Stan Lee. Carol Susan Jane Danvers is a fictional character who appears in comic books published by Marvel Comics. She was created by writer Roy Thomas and artist Gene Colan. In her first appearance, she was depicted as an officer in the United States Air Force and a colleague of the Kree superhero Mar-Vell in Marvel Super-Heroes #13 (March 1968).
@williambanks2223
@williambanks2223 10 ай бұрын
Just to add a little more data: Danvers later became the first incarnation of Ms. Marvel in Ms. Marvel #1 (cover-dated January 1977) after her DNA was fused with Mar-Vell's during an explosion, giving her superhuman powers. Mar-Vell was a male in the comics. It's ironic you mentioned getting cancer from your powers because Mar-Vell died of cancer in the comics (Death of Captain Marvel)(1982)

The movie, Carol was picking up in the Blockbuster store is "THE RIGHT STUFF", a fantastic epic about the breaking of the sound barrier and the first men in space. Since it seems most commenters are afraid to be accused of misogyny or antifeminism for their honesty, I’ll give you the BIG 3: *_(1.) The Journey:_* We had 7 movies to invest in *_CAPTAIN AMERICA_* going from the adolescent weakling he was to the powerful hero became; *_IRONMAN_* 7 movies, *_THOR_* 7 movies, *_HAWKEYE_* 4 movies & a series, *_BLACK WIDOW_* 6 movies, *_DR STRANGE_* 4 movies, *_HULK_* 6 movies, *_THE GUARDIANS OF THE GALAXY_* 5 movies, *_ANTMAN_* 5 movies, etc. We watched these characters endure life-threatening battles, conquer internal character defects & fully unlock their “power(s)” in steady trajectory towards a satisfying apex! Captain Marvel was basically told “girls can’t play baseball!” &, in a blink, was arguably the most powerful character in the entire MCU. . .the MCU that was 10 years, 21 films & 3 phases in already. *_(2.) The relatability:_* The character is supposed to be serious, stoic, “soldier-ly” & not quite human. . .but she just comes off as disinterested & uninteresting. Characters in somewhat similar fashioning (Agent Coulson, Happy, Fury, Thanos, Ronan, Ronin, the Sorcereress Supreme, Jarvis, Vision) don’t have this issue. GROOT SHOWS MORE BALANCED EMOTION🤣 *_(3.) The actress vs the character:_* Regardless of how potentially well-meaning people try to frame this, it was bad. Brie Larson made disparaging, dismissive & condescending comments about arguably the bulk of comic / MCU fans during the media tour ahead of the film. It’s something that would’ve never been tolerated if black cast members said something similar ahead of Black Panther, if Pakistani cast members said something similar ahead of Ms Marvel, if men (in general) said something similar ahead of every male-character-led release. It was not simply an objective conclusion. She was wrong. . .& that’s why no one in Marvel (cast or otherwise) supported her comments. Had it not been sandwiched between the 2 biggest films in superhero history, it would’ve gotten the same treatment *_”The Marvels”_* is getting right now😅 #ReadyForENDGAME🔥🔥🔥

So I'll defend this movie. Carol has been my favorite female super hero since 1992, when I read an issue where she punched Rogue of the X-Men literally to the moon. In the comics she's not just a pilot but a former spy and a born leader and one of the longest serving Avengers, and probably the female Avenger with the longest running solo title (She-Hulk is second longest but neither have gotten to issue 200 yet. Carol will next year though). People in the comments complain they changed the origin to fit the movie, but actually they changed very little. The basic elements from the comic and film are the same -- Carol is present at a conflict between Mar-Vell and Yon-Rogg, a Kree device explodes during the conflict, and the result is Carol gets super powers. The only difference is in the film it was the engine, in the comics it's some kind of psychic doohickey. The only other small difference is in the comics, she only gets her super strength and flight at first; she doesn't get her energy powers and the ability to survive in space until a second group of aliens kidnaps and experiments on her. The film consolidates those two things and honestly I think that improves the origin ... the comics had a habit of being convoluted. If you want the best of the character I highly recommend reading the second half of her '70s comic book series, "Ms. Marvel"; her run in the X-Men series circa "Uncanny X-Men" 150-175; her 2000s "Ms. Marvel" series; or her 2010s "Captain Marvel" series. There's a lot of good stuff there that might help you appreciate the character more. An important single issue story for her is "Avengers" Annual 10 from the early 1980s.... the plot diverges from the movie version but its a really good way of understanding the character better.
