If Toots doesn't make you smile, you need to go get yourself a "grin examination" and a checkup of your heart!!! :) I just love him!!! He reminds me how fortunate you are when God makes you a musician!!! :)

I even enjoy listening to the Sesame Street theme or the Old Spice commercials, because it's Toots and he puts his mark on EVERYTHING he plays. It's not even the virtuosity, but the sense of fun and play that grabs me every time. His album with Elis Regina is priceless. This is a great clip; thanks for the upload!

Mr 'Midnight Cowboy' Himself, I met a female harpist, over from County Cork, whilst playing at a jazz club in Leeds, who upstaged everyone, by playing his style.

hey Theo, I am a relatively young man, and found Toots and his wonderful talent and back catalogue approximately ten years ago. although I expected this day to come, I am still saddened and somewhat miffed at recent events. I have watched this video many times, and am glad that people like you who have played with the maestro have shared these pearls. I don't know where you live or play these days, but you are more than welcome in Belfast, Ireland. in the meantime, I will continue to listen to Toots. the best jazzman to come out of Europe in my opinion .

Hi Shane, Thanks for this comment. Yes, Toots was a great jazzman; I learned a lot from him. He had such an impact on me that strangely enough I don't feel he is gone since he lives somewhere in me. But, yes, sadly enough I will never play with him again... or maybe they have a nice jazzclub in heaven where we will meet one day. Does god like jazz? ;) Hope to visit Belfast one of these days. Cheers

Please do get in touch if you do :) I am going to Brussels next month, is Toots buried there? And yes I hope that there is jazz in heaven; for that would surely be one hell (in a manner is speaking) of a jam! Toots and Beiderbecke trading licks!

Ik kan het niet met woorden zeggen hoezeer ik Toots bewonder. Alles wat hij speelt lijkt voor hem zo gemakkelijk en toch is het zo'n moeilijk instrument.
@ravelfan8814 жыл бұрын
He is doing the impossible..Playing at this tempo. Even in the key of C, every 3rd or 4th note is a DRAW. Try reversing your air flow that fast. Also, on a chromatic, each hole can produce 4 different tones AND they each feel the same to your mouth. He sits alone.

Bud Spencer on the drums lol
@ChristianSchonbergerMusic13 жыл бұрын
@ravelfan88 agreed 100% I don't know if the airflow is reversed by the diaphragm or if it's a tounge technique for fast passages.... I have a Hohner Super 64 - I know how it works and I did some fair amount of practising (I am a pianist/keyboarder/arranger etc.) - just to find out that it is a waste of time. I will end up mediocre at the most. I leave that to the greats like Toots.

Is this Jean Toots Thielemans?. I thought he was a Rickenbacker endorsed jazz guitarist.

@gitarische Don't listen to those naysayers. The chromatic Harmonica is an excellent lead instrument - if played by total genuises like Toots or Stevie it is every bit as expressive and soulful as it gets.
