This episode always reminds me of someone who is suffering from a severe case of schizophrenia that eventually drives him to suicide. And maybe extreme intense fear kept him on the bottom. I know nowadays I can sense the endings like you but I was lucky enough to watch these as a kid and the endings were not so see through. This episode taps into the real fear people had back then about the rise of automation. People were afraid that machines would take their jobs and modern conveniences would take away creativity and motivation

The woman who played the secretary is the late actress, Barbara Stuart. She is probably best known for playing Bunny, the girlfriend of the character Seargeant Carter in the television show Gomer Pyle, U.S.M.C.

i grew up in 60s and 70s - my father and every one we knew made about 50 dollars a week - that would be 200 dollars a month - that was before taxes so 4 dollars for a room was not bargain- the good old days were not as good as every one pretends to believe -
