The so often neglected concept, is that the drummer is totally playing off of whatever Edgar is going, and in a split second is able to to create a harmony between them, no matter how off the rails Edgar went. I don’t know if you’ve already listened to them but next, it would be great if you listened to some Wet Willie, a fabulous southern rock band we all frequently saw. They were signed to our hometown label, Capricorn Records, along with the Allman Brothers Band, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Marshall Tucker, and so many more. Macon, GA was a hotbed of music and we were blessed to see it all live. Jimmy Hall is the incredible lead singer. Grits Ain’t Groceries, Everything That You Do, Keep On Smiling are just a few of their great gifts to the world. If you want an amazing Allman Brothers song, do Whipping Post Live At Fillmore East. Epic! Thanks so much for all the enjoyment and interesting discussions.

He can play! The bass player is Dan Hartman who also had a couple hits "I can dream about you." The caliber of players who back Edgar says much about his vast talent. He is still touring with Ringo Starr's All Star Band and still playing like this. Amazing.

The song on the actual album, the guitarist was Ronnie Montrose. He played on the Frankenstein album, They Only Come Out At Night. Ronnie left and formed his own band Montrose, which introduced Sammy Hagar to the world. Johnny became one of the great bluesmen and a wizard with a guitar.

The title "Frankenstein" refers to the fact that they had to do massive editing and splicing (parts spliced together like Frankenstein) to get something short enough for the final album version. Also, this was a pioneering song in that it was the first major hit to feature the synthesizer. Synthesizers were only a couple years old at the time. There were a few synthesizer tunes prior to this, but this was the first one done by someone who was first and foremost a musician, rather than an electronics nerd.

I saw Edgar about 1980, and when he started Frankenstein, within the first 16 bars or so, he blew up the synth, and thank god pro musicians carry back up sh*t because he put on an awesome show for the hour wait we had to endure. These were the days that the synthesizer had to be programmed before you could use it. The Winter Family is as Badass as Badass can be when it comes to music. Edgar's brother Johnny died on the road in Switzerland 2 days after his last performance at the Cahors Blues Fest in France. These brothers are as musician as musician can get. I can only wish and pray that I could entertain people to the extent they have. You want to talk about 'white' boys, they are albino. If you notice on the video, even Edgar's hair is white. When they play outdoors they have to be totally blocked from the sun. They are about the few white guys that can seriously play blues. Johnny actually produced Muddy Waters before he passed away. I fully encourage you guys to do a deep dive into not only Edgar but Johnny Winter.
