As a white guy who grew up in the NYC projects back in the day we were so mixed in the 80's and 90's Had white, Spanish, Black, Asian friends all into thrash, hip hop (birth of it too), punk rock, heavy metal etc. Be white kids later on listening to Wu Tang with Black kids rocking out to Nirvana and Green Day playing ball together. Don't even let the American media tell you otherwise and divide us. It was all a great time. I know a Black guy from work. Former Army who loves to ride his motorcycles and blast Soundgarden. Cheers to all. Music is universal. From Run DMC, Public Enemy, Beastie Boys, Metallica, Maiden etc. list goes on.

Ignorance unfortunately comes from every corner and every angle....as a kid in high-school 90/94 Ithere were about 2500 students that attended the school maybe more...not really sure since high-school is a blur to me now but my point is alot of people steered away from because of the music I listened to and the way I dressed 😆 the other reason was because of the rough and tumble style of fighting I incorporated when I fought since I was a little guy anyway......long live metal 👍 👍

One of my favorites by them. That galloping rhythm, the transitions, the solo's, lyrics. Just good stuff! Also, this came out in 1983 at a time when top of the charts was "Every Breath You Take" The Police and "Billie Jean" Michael Jackson. So, this was a big change to what was popular at the time.

In High School (late 80s for me) my best friend and I played football together - before ever game i put the cassette of this album in my walkman, we had a headphone splitter, so we both could listen - and we listened to this song, Whiplash, and MotorBreath from that album to fire us up before each and every game! You boys are such a fun exciting way to enjoy music of my youth. Also - love what you're doing looking at the meanings of stuff and learning a thing or two. Most great metal music is deep and profound. Same as great hip-hop, especially older classic metal and hip-hop.

Watching you guys react to your first listen of these Metallica songs is reminds me how blown away I was as a kid by these guys, and this was their first album! Like I mentioned in the last video, I eventually started saving up my change and bought more of their albums and start branching out and buying those of bands that either were their peers, or influencers of them. There are many “better” more technical bands, but Metallica is always gonna be top 5 for me just because of how they helped guide a 10 year old kid in his journey of music discovery for decades to come.

I'm SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO glad you showed this song! It's my favorite Metallica song! And yes, they were so young when they wrote it, yet the lyrics and music flow tremendously well. Back in the early 80's, listening to these bands was almost taboo in the music industry. Metallica liked it that way then... they didn't sell out until the Black album (when most of the popular world discovered them and gave them a chance). Prior to then, you had to be in the "metalhead/satanic" crowd to know about them. This song is a gem... the rhythm equates to galloping horses. Too bad the radio never plays these songs in 2023; otherwise, I know a lot of the younger generations would request them after being exposed. Think about it.... this music was not easy to make, play and incorporate lyrics. These guys did it.. halfway hammered, yet they made it to the top. Great job guys! Glad to see you're appreciating good music! And yes, the 4 guitar riffs represented the 4 Horsemen (awesome analogy!)

Yes Dave Mustaine actually provided the majority of the gear and instruments to get started. He was considered to be out of control by managers and the other members were forced to kick him out of the band. Megadeth is very solid as a band. It's like comparing Peyton Manning to Tom Brady. One has more hardware than the other but both were leaders in thrash genre. Metallica would be short a few of their best cuts if not for Mustaine so he has to get credit since it's due!

@johnpsy4129 I'm actually a huge Metallica fan. Mustaine has his place in metal, and he certainly has some great lyrics and music to support a warranted spot in metal. There's an old Metallica video maybe Cliff 'em All where Ulrich tells the entire story of how the band formed. Ulrich is my source and I don't think he'd have reason to fabricate their beginning especially crediting a huge part of their beginning successes to Mustaine. Great video obviously its Metallica. Do watch sometime and you'll enjoy! I've been into Metallica since late 80s and have always regarded them as the best band of metal! No other band has stood the test of time even through turmoil as they have. Also, I'm not a queer so I don't suck dong!

Dave Mustaine has said that he didn't want Megadeth to sound like Metallica when he formed the band in 1983 after being fired... He hired more technically gifted musicians for Megadeth because he wanted more unpredictability and dual lead guitars (Metallica has a rhythm- lead guitar combo of James Hetfield and Kirk Hammett)... Dave Mustaine was on lead guitar, and so was their first guitarist Chris Poland... their first drummer (the late) Gar Samuelson was a phenomenal drummer who could even play jazz (Lars Ulrich, the drummer of Metallica, was not technically gifted... but he could make a noise on the kit!) Megadeth actually recorded the original version of 'The four horsemen'... titled 'Mechanix'. The contrast between the 2 versions is the difference between Metallica and Megadeth sonically.

I've always considered Megadeth, Metallica, Anthrax and Slayer ((especially Slayer!!) To be the top four original thrash metal bands. All with their own style. I can't think of one without referencing the other three.

Metallica are better song writers, but Megadeth are better/more talented musicians.

Wow you are the only other person I've ever seen admit this! I've been saying it for years. Love both bands, but Metallica are easier on the ear, by keeping it more simple and Megadeth can over complicate their music by showcasing their talents. I play guitar and megadeth is (or can be) much more difficult to learn and play. Friedman had some silky moves. Epic guitarist. But he and Dave often piss me off by using 24 frets! As I'm 2 short for their shenanigans

@@pickmeasinner im also a guitarist and complete agree, love both bands highly, I wish I could write like Hetfield, but play like Poland, Young, Friedman etc

I say Slayer is better but after you guys listened to Raining Blood, I don't get the impression that you're ever gonna play then anymore. They're not devil worshippers, they're just hardcore Thrash. The lead singer Tom Araya is actually a practicing Roman Catholic.
