This is an absolute pop masterpiece. But it's also one of the greatest recorded drum tracks in pop music history. A doctoral dissertation could be written on Vinnie's performance.

Mr. Colaita is, indeed, one of the very best in the business. Creme de la creme. Makes the technically challenging look like child's play. There are only a few songs, especially in pop music, where the drum parts are so intricate and so central to the structure and fabric of the song as it is here. A masterpiece, indeed.

A tasteful song with a tremendous amount of musical substance. Vinnie’s dynamics and agile chops really embellish this song. From Vinnie’s mouth this is done in 5/4.

When I grow-up, can I play music like these pros???? I first listened to this song, many times, as the cassette repeatedly reversed itself, while traveling across the Ukraine. Gazing out of the windows of the rhythmically moving train, seeing the fields pass bye, lovers sitting by the ponds, small villages with the elderly strolling about their chores, as each tale from Sumner unfolded. Along the tracks, of the train and tunes, each exotic time signature made the journey a memorable experience, one that created a sense of newness, complimenting one another. Now that I am home, back in the States, so many years later, I travel, in mind, every time I rekindle the desire to sit-back, listening to the Sumner Tales.

LYRICS (YEAR 1993): "Seven days" is all she wrote A kind of ultimatum note She gave to me She gave to me When I thought the field had cleared It seems another suit appeared To challenge me Oh, woe is me Though I hate to make a choice My options are decreasing mostly rapidly Well, we'll see I don't think she'd bluff this time I really have to make her mine It's plain to see It's him or me Monday, I could wait 'til Tuesday If I make up my mind Wednesday would be fine Thursday's on my mind Friday'd give me time Saturday could wait Sunday'd be too late The fact he's over six feet ten Might instill fear in other men But not in me The mighty flea Ask if I am mouse or man The mirror squeaked, away I ran He'll murder me In time for his tea Does it bother me at all My rival is Neanderthal? It makes me think, hey Perhaps I need a drink IQ is not an issue here We won't be playing Scrabble For her hand I fear I need that beer, hey Monday, I could wait 'til Tuesday If I make up my mind Wednesday would be fine Thursday's on my mind Friday'd give me time Saturday could wait Sunday'd be too late Seven days will quickly go The fact remains, I love her so (I love her so) Seven days, so many ways I can't run away No, I can't run away Monday, I could wait 'til Tuesday If I make up my mind Wednesday would be fine Thursday's on my mind Friday'd give me time Saturday could wait Sunday'd be too late Oh, Sunday Sunday'd too late, too late Too late, too late, oh Do I have to tell the story Of a thousand rainy days since we first met? Oh! It's a big enough umbrella But it's always me that ends up getting wet

This album plunged me further into depression after a breakup and then pulled me out of the depths just in time. It was there as a guide that led me out of massive depression. My fav drummer of his - of all time. Man, the bridge of this song hits me so damn hard still.

I was so impressed by the whole Ten Summoner's Tales LP by Sting which I first heard on big speakers in a well known London Recording Studio (Metropolis) whilst wiring it up at 3am in the morning. As a drummer, this album was a massive change for me and Vinnie's playing is just fab with 5/4, 7/8 etc going on and I was in a band a few years later which did a lot of this and The Police stuff (yeah, it wasn't easy!).

It would be 5/4 because it's 5 quarter notes per bar. 5/8 would mean there are 5 eighth notes per bar, which isn't true because in this song their are 10 eighth notes per bar.
