This song was a favorite of my dad in the 1980s. Fast forward thirty years and he and I are driving during a mild snow and this song comes on. He starts singing it and I'm in tears...you see my dad, at that point, was suffering from end-stage Alzheimer's; he didn't even know who I was. He had all but forgotten how to speak in simple sentences. But when this song started playing, it's like the lightbulb came on and he started singing, not missing a single word. This song will always hold a special place in my heart!

My brother drives truck part time from his main job now and then to help a friend's business and to make a little extra money for he and his wife and four daughters at home. He was coming home for Christmas a couple years ago (Good Story!) and he had it worked out that when he got two miles from home in his truck, he texted me to gather everyone around the TV and I played this for everyone. At the end of the song....my brother was heard driving down the long driveway and up to the house in his truck to the happy screams of his daughters...it was just a really cool thing for everyone and especially for a guy who'd been gone for 5 days who made it home for Christmas with his family. Just thought I'd share a very special moment with this song. Merry Christmas everyone.

First heard this song shopping at the 99 cent store in Lompoc California last December. I thought the singer was American, but was surprised to find out he's from the UK, since there's no hint of a British accent as he sings this song. I was also surprised this song was from 1986. I see there are comments from all over the world and multiple cultures can relate to this song. For some it can bring the joy of the anticipation of going home for Christmas while for others it may be sad that past holiday gatherings will never be as they once were, since loved ones pass away. Or for some the home they once went to is no longer there or they are too far away from it. Either way the song has meaning to a diverse group of people. Seems like it has been underrated in the United States, since you practically never hear it anywhere.

This song reminds me of when I was a truck driver for a company TMC. I was was on my way home from my last run Christmas Eve listing to this song. Well, I was home almost every weekend when I was working for TMC. That Christmas when I was home, I found out my wife was pregnant with my little girl. BEST PART: I recorded 'Driving Home For Christmas'' w/my cell phone while recording the ''blizzard'' through my window & then sent to my Chris Rea friends. ☮ I guess we could call it ''Gulf Effect'' snow. My 20 yr old triplet daughter passed away in a tragic car accident a few wks ago. I'm convinced she sent this song to me last night as a sign which only my family knows is my very favorite Christmas song. I started bawling when I heard the lyrics that seemed to confirm she was in heaven, i.e. "Get my feet on holy ground...So I sing for you though you can't hear me...." I miss her dearly esp at this time of year just after her death but am comforted by this song which now takes on a special meaning.

Many times I've driven on a road like this in a snow storm. This just reminds me of driving home on Christmas eve in British Columbia in the same weather. I almost tear up watching this and the song it brings back so many memories.
