Even though I know all of these concepts - I still enjoy watching the literal "X's and O's" of football. It's a fantastic game to study and is immensely more complex than I would say the 'average' fan realizes -- and definitely more complex than someone who isn't a fan and perhaps calls it 'stupid' etc can fathom. I would say American football is the most strategic 'popular' game on the planet and is a Giant chess match with the world's best athletes.

GuessTechGaming 100% agree , especially with the chess part. I started playing madden and that got me into the NFL. And after me stumbling upon chess one day and seeing it was really similar it really opened my eyes on how strategic American football really is. It also allowed me to get better at madden

Can't say it's like chess, chess both players know what's going on and are trying to find inaccuracies to enjoy an eventual advantage 20moves later. Americans football is more like poker, gotta predict what's going on before the first set of cards is revealed

Same thing with people who think baseball is too slow. They're unaware of the "game within the game". I've been getting into gridiron football the last few years after seeing some really good playoff/Superbowl games and this season I decided I'm going to put some time into learning about it. It's been pretty rewarding.

You said "free safety", but you put a rectangle around the strong safety. You can tell he's the strong safety because he's on the "strong side" of the offense (the side with the tight end). Plus he's lined up closer to the line of scrimmage than the free safety.

How can you tell which side of the deffense is strong and weak, what if there is a TE on each side or even amounts of players on each side liek how can you tell what is weak side and string side and could you explain what the Mike, Will and Sam LB are and do
@ChatGpt641

So, you have a few questions here. About the strong/weak side, yes. It’s about which side the TE is on. This basically means there is an extra person on that side to help potentially block. To a defense, this will effect where the 3-technique will line up [a technique is the position of a d-lineman. That’s almost too much to explain on this comment]. The 3t helps control the flow of the defensive line. For example, if they want to be “over” the offensive strength, they’ll line the 3t up on the strong side. If there is a TE on both sides, the defense will put their 3t on either, effectively making neither side strong.

Mike = middle, Sam = Strong, Will = Weak. Like in the last comment, they’ll line up according to the TE position. Sometimes the defense will have a 4th LB, and they’ll be called Joker or Rover, or any fun term the defense has [we used Joker]. Their roles vary depending on what the play is. A “will” might help cover a running back in man coverage, they might blitz outside the offensive line [a Scrape blitz], blitz inside the outside defensive lineman [a Stunt blitz], or sit back in zone coverage. The same goes for the any other LB.

That’s just a real quick explanation. Hope that helps!

@@ChatGpt641 What if say the offense is in I formation and there is a TE on the left side and a another TE on the right side who would cover who and would that be the same if there was a RB or WR lined up the same way
@ChatGpt641
@ChatGpt641 3 жыл бұрын
@@Ethan-hs3mq Great question! This goes more towards offensive personnel packages, or how many RB’s and TE’s are on the field. The I formation you describe has 2 RB and 2 TE’s. This would be called “2-2”, or simply “22”. If there was only one RB, it would be a “12”. The personnel package matters to the defense for assignments and could be really anything. Without getting too in-depth and wordy on here, the fewer RB’s and TE’s, the more WR’s are on the field. In your example, a 22 I formation, that means there is 1 WR. The defense would see this and more than likely substitute a defensive back for another LB or DL. Defenses have so many options, I wouldn’t really be able to tell you what they would be do. The D would more than likely “stack the box”, or try to stop any runs up the middle, but there’s no one answer.

So a "Cover 2 Man" is a blend of zone & man, with man coverage up front and the two safeties playing zone over top?
