This video is a *step-by-step tutorial* on how to cut a men's side part hairstyle using scissors. The video begins with wet hair, parted in the desired position for the finished style, which is maintained throughout the haircut. The tutorial covers various techniques, starting with taking sections of hair the depth of a comb and cutting them to the desired length with movement. I then use horizontal sections, working from the top down, and gradually getting closer to the bottom, angling the sections towards the face near the temple. The video also explains how to work around the ear, keeping the ear safe using a comb as a barrier. I explain the importance of taking thin sections to avoid lines in the haircut. The video also covers the common mistake of cutting hair square, resulting in a weight line, and demonstrates how to avoid this by tilting the fingers out to create a layered finish. I also demonstrate cutting the top in three parts: the parting, the middle strip, and then at an angle towards the side part.
The video further explains how to avoid cutting a fringe too short by pulling the comb to the side when cutting, ensuring a more accurate length. The tutorial concludes with refining the cut using a trimmer, demonstrating how to use the corner of a t-shaped blade to get a clean line around the hairline without going inside the hairline. I also explain how to use the trimmer over the comb to taper the neck. Throughout the video, I emphasise the importance of working with thin sections, using a 6 or 7 inch scissor, and maintaining the hair's position.

I’m not a barber or a stylist but have been cutting my husband’s hair for 24 years. As his hair is thinning some I’ve not been happy with my last few cuts; seems I created lines that I could see in a couple days afterward. This tutorial may be the answer I needed. So happy I discovered you here. I’m going to adopt this technique on his haircut this evening. Thank you!

Thanks for sharing!! Lines can be the result of sections that are too big. But you can also cross check them which means pick up sections in the opposite direction (perpendicular) and check the lines of your section don’t have bumps.

Love this tutorial. I've been cutting my husbands hair with clippers and some scissor work for a few years now. Unfortunately he's in a major depressive episode at the moment, but I'm well equipped when he comes out the other side, as he has hair just like this gentleman! Thank you for sharing your knowledge with us, I'm very grateful 😊

One of my favorite vintage SNL bits was Theodoric of York: Medieval Barber 😂 I should have watched this refresher before cutting my husband's hair today, but your previous scissor tutorials taught me well and he was happy with the results (as usual 😄). My biggest challenge is working around his bald spot, but it is doable.

I feel his pain with the bald spot. Thin hair is quite difficult. But good for you for learning you will get better the more you do

Thanks for doing this side part tutorial! That’s how my son wears his hair, so this was super useful. I have trouble with weight lines everywhere, especially at the back of the head. I have trouble blending the side hair in with my son’s mutton chops. His hair is very straight, but his mutton chops are curly. I also have trouble tapering the sides and top back of his hair. Finally, his hair sticks up in the back no matter how long it is.

Lines are almost always because the section is too thick when you cut it. Try taking less hair or try cross checking it. I also made a video recently where I cut super straight hair and you can see how much hair I’m leaving to keep the crown flat How to Cut Straight Asian Hair | Boys Haircut kzbin.info/www/bejne/jXfXmYaFf6iDgZI

Wow Mike SO nice and fresh scissor cut, and then a clean finishing touch with the trimmer. Every time I watch your work as I’m learning, it’s so extremely satisfying- this is why I believe barbers as well as myself not only learn and refine their skills from you, but we enjoy it immensely, at least for me tremendously. Thank you for helping us all become all we can be. I was wondering if you could maybe do a video tutorial on how to professionally fade beards short to long length beards. Maybe include maintenance of the mustache and beard as well. Wonderful show Mike!! 🙌🏻✨🙏🏻✨🔥

Thanks so much Ericka and merry Christmas to you and your kin. Beards are one thing I’ve never put much focus on, although I probably should. I have a few pretty standard methods of cutting beards. I’m not by any means a beard expert but can certainly share some tips.

I watched probably 15 of your scissor-cutting videos so that I could cut my boyfriend's hair and it went great! I will say something I did not expect to happen was accidentally poking him a couple times when doing the scissor over comb sectioning, so maybe it would help other viewers who are learning just if you mention that as a caution. But cutting around the ear went great and he really liked how the haircut came out. I was also wondering if you have any advice for cutting with a cowlick in the back of the head? He has one right in the top back where all his hair comes from if that makes sense.
@theoneminutebarber

Yes I do, my next video has it all, the cowlick you describe is what we call a double crown. The next video has the double crown, cow lick on the fringe and nape whorls at the back

Thanks for the video! Question: when I cut my kids hair for a part, without fail after they’ve been wearing it for a couple hours, it always falls down flat. How do you keep the parted side blended well so it looks good in both parted and straight down styles?
@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber Ай бұрын
The single most important thing is to find the natural parting. If you brush the hair back and let it relax it will fall into its natural parting. If you work using that line then you shouldn’t have any problems. The hair will push apart there without you doing anything.

I cut the hair the way you showed me. However, I cannot comb or lay the hair to the right or left. I have been a barber for 4 months. I haven't had any problems with my clients. But I lost the clients who had this issue. I live in Lithuania. I am looking forward to your help. Thank you. Good luck. Best regards.

Layering and control of the hair will come to you. If the hair is too short it will be difficult to control. So apply these concepts to slightly longer hair. At least as long as is in this video.

I got thinning hair, so how would I ask a barber to cut the top like this or with the same technique? I usually just say a little trim at the top, comb over style. I feel like it's uneven usually..

When i cut my friends frontal hair(the haor that falls on his forehead), instead of it falling like a fringe, which he wants it looks like bangs all curled over, is this because there is too much weight on the hair on top of that?
@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber Ай бұрын
Possibly. It could be that it’s is still too long or you need to layer the hair more or it’s possible it is his hair type.

@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber Ай бұрын
It was borderline in this haircut whether they weee necessary. I use them to reduce bulk and then move to scissor over comb. Once I get round to the left hand side I often just use the short hair from the back as a guide and complete the work scissor over comb.

Why didn't you just do scissor under comb the whole hair cut? Why pull out square first?
@theoneminutebarber
@theoneminutebarber Ай бұрын
That’s a great question. I could have done that, but sometimes I like to reduce the bulk, if the hair is too long it collapses when you do scissor over comb.
