I interpreted the niece bit as a stunt Jim pulled in order to make himself look like a family man despite his obvious lack of care for it. The fact that he just dumped her off at the cheapest rehab with some cash and never heard from her again demonstrates the shallowness of that act

Pig snout can be pretty tasty if cooked and flavoured well. The only problem is the hairs, but if removed or shaved low enough it can be quite a positively interesting texture.
