Sir as you tell Trailing zeros (Right hand side zeros ) are not significant if there is no decimal point . As you tell in 1 example that is 8000 = 1 (8000 has only 1 Significant number ) zeros on right hand side are not significant bcuz the no. 8000 do not contain any decimal point . same it will happen in case of 100 = 1 ( it has 1 significant no. ) Cuz it does not contain any decimal point . But my college Sir says - 100 has 3 significant no. 100=3 (S.N. ) Cuz he tells the zeros present on right hand side are valuable and countable also that 100 no. Has importance bcuz of that two zeros (00) so 100 has 3 significant number ! So , now am getting tooo confused 🙄 that , what's the right answer ? 100 has 1 significant number OR 100 has 3 🤔 significant number . By the way I think 100 has only 1 significant number . 100 = 1 (S.N.) 😅 I request you please reply my question ❤️❤️❤️❤️

note for the final question at the end of the video, actually the product of the denominator is negative, so the answer should be negative, i don't know if the rounding principles would change or not with a negative product.

I read in my physics textbook that when it is 3.45, we should keep it 3.4(and not 3.5) when rounding to 2 sig figs. Idk if it's right or wrong. Thanks for this helpful video, nevertheless😄

It's like if a number is 2.456 you can round it off to 2.5 for two significant figures but if it's 2.454 then it will be 2.4 only..... Cuz the numbers below 5 don't change the previous number in rounding while more than 5 increase the previous number by 1, however when it comes to rounding a number that comes before 5 itself, it has exceptions

@@baycunoyan7159 this is incorrect. The rule is you round up if the number after the uncertain number is 5 or greater. In this case rounding to 2 sig figs, the uncertain number is 4, and the number AFTER the uncertain number is 5, so you round up the 4. The answer is 2.5. In this case the number after the 5 is irrelevant because it is two places after the uncertain number.

@@dannyboi7877 The number after the 5 does matter but you're correct to say that 2.454 rounds to 2.5 not 2.4. Although 3.45 rounds to 3.4 rather than 3.5 because of rule #3 below. 1. If the digit removed is more than 5, the preceding number increases by 1: 5.379 → 5.38 (three significant figures); 5.379 → 5.4 (two significant figures) 2. If the digit removed is less than 5, the preceding number remains the same: 0.2413 → 0.241 (three significant figures); 0.2413 → 0.24 (two significant figures) 3. If the digit removed is 5, the preceding number increases by 1 if it is odd and remains the same if it is even: 17.75 → 17.8; 17.65 → 17.6 If the 5 is followed only by zeros, rule 3 is followed; if the 5 is followed by nonzeros, rule 1 is followed: 17.7500 → 17.8; 17.6500 → 17.6; 17.6513 → 17.7 - Quoted from Silberberg and Amateis' "Chemistry: The Molecular Nature of Matter and Change" 9th Edition, Page 29
