Y= to angles a and b Because.... All the angles of any triangle add up to 180 degrees. And angle c + y = 180. And by knowing these two equations: a+b+c=180. c+y=180. You can see that a+b=y.

2 is multiplied to both sides to cancel the fraction 1/2. DF remains on the right hand side while on the left hand side, HK is multiplied to 2 so the equation will be DF = 2HK (hope this helps)
