Eu acredito, fazendo minha análise após ver esse video que, o quefaz mais sentido, é que o pensamento vem antes da linguagem, pois antes mesmo de se aprender a falar você já pensou, assim como Paulo Freire tbm diz que "a leitura do mundo precede a leitura da palavra".

If we think our brain works as an "Associative Machine", than it comes to a sense that language and thoughts are associating themselves. So both are interdependent, growing together to perceive the world around us.

This is an interesting presentation, no doubt: simple and easy. There are, however, some points to be taken into consideration. 1) The title of presentation in in text is: "Theories of language and cognition". But the diagram is about: Thought - Language. It assumes Cognition and Thought are identical or at least similar? Am I right? 2) As English uses a left to right alphabet, Language is comes in the left side and Cognition comes in the right side. In the Diagram, however, Thought is in the left and Language in the right side. It has implications for the main topics: How does media (e.g. language) impacts thinking! Should you like, i would be happy to provide more info.

wow, Professor Yue thank you. You really do enjoy the fields of information you discussed in these videos, you're excitement and fundamental, and intuitive understandings of the content were clear in every sentence you spoke. I had a question about the continuum between "thought and langauge" . For the thought side, should there be a separation for "liguistic" and "imagistic" thought? You can activate your language production centers by thinking the words you want to say, which kind of makes this "thought" really similar to "spoken language". While an image called to mind would be more in line with "thought" devoid of language.

This is an interesting topic. I must say, the idea that language determines thought seems erroneous, to me. We're sentient beings planted in a physical reality, one which contains objects and stimuli. We're equipped with our five senses so that we can take in all the information needed to help us survive and navigate our surroundings. Along the way, we as human beings with our higher functioning brains can derive concepts and have the ability to exercise abstract thought. The degree to which that is possible is the degree to which we develop language, a symbolic oral or written system that helps us communicate concepts and ideas for a whole range of purposes. So language is a tool of thought, used to express all of that.

In the "the girl pushes the boy" scenario, I put myself in the girl's point of view, instinctively. I am a 32 year old man. What does that reveal about my native language(s)?

How do we understand errant/anomalous/atypical/error ridden sentences? And how is we can usually create standard 'acceptable' sentences out of them? How about this sentence, " I don't like rainy but I little like"? What do you make of it? Can you understand it? Is it because you formed a 'correct' sentence in your mind first? Now try to reform the sentence. What do you come up with?

more precisely.. psycholinguistics ...psychology is too vast of a field ..u'll just briefly skim through it ... so search for linguistic courses that have to do something with thought or way of thinking or how we acquire language ...i.e. language acquisition ..

yeah I'm studying speech pathology which does focus on these aspects and if or when I do a PhD I can focus more on this or language selective or non selective theory in bilingual people or levelts or dells theory's of language activation there is a lot of research going on at the moment in these fields. but there is a few different fields that focus on this so you should research what you think would suit your interests best and focus on those as neuro science, speech therapy, linguistics etc fields can all do research in these areas.

It seems undeniable that language and thought influence one another. However, we create language from our thoughts. Their persistent commingling must be examined in the context, and as a result of, structurally oppressive forces - i.e. patriarchy, heteropatriarchy, capitalism, settler colonialism, racism, white supremacy, ableism, classism, and so on.
