Sweet, bell hooks is the only feminist theorist I know that really speaks to and understands my life as a man. Her feminism is the one I've instinctually gravitated towards since my teenage years. I'm excited for this

What is MGTOW?
@LoneWulf278
@LoneWulf278 Жыл бұрын
@@janethehedges it’s an internet thing. It is an acronym for “men going their own way”. Basically, they are in their single/self-development phase of life because they’re unsatisfied with the dating scene. It could be understood as an example of modern day hetero-pessimism.

It’s just men complaining about women you’re not really going your own way

@@janethehedges MGTOW are men who have been through marriage and divorce, warning younger men of what to expect and how to avoid the pitfalls. They have left the plantation and they leave a trail to follow.

Yes, don't treat men like objects.

What do you mean by that
@battragon
@battragon Жыл бұрын
@@dobby2270Well, you should view them as actual people with their own subjective perception of things instead instead of things to use for your own purposes, like procreation or financial gain. Men are people in that if you hold them in low esteem for protracted periods, this tends to become a self-fulfilling prophecy.

@@battragon In the case of finance, I think it's a mutual process. A man perceives a woman as an object of a body for sex, and a woman perceives a man as an object of a wallet for money

@@dobby2270 if it were a mutual process then when the sex stopped so would the money but men have to keep paying, though the dead bedroom phase and even after the divorce.

Going back on Tough Guise(?), it's kind of dated now. I think they list 'transgender' as a 'sexuality' fairly early and I can't really take it seriously past that.

I was given bell hook’s The will to change:men, masculinity and love when I was a 17 y/o (now 42) punk rocker. The person said you really want to be subversive read this. It did have a pretty profound impact on my world view. I’ve spoken to younger folks who have read it and they say it’s pretty dated. Still I think it’s worth a read!
