TheOutdoorGearReview PLEASE try to get a hold of ANY WISPORT backpack it's a Polish company and I can assure you you will not be disapointed. I currently own 7 wisport backpacks one is 8 years old and still kicking. These packs have been used by the polish special forces in afganistan and all over the world. I don't know if it would be possible for you to get one in the US but if you can it will NEVER fail you. Gr8 vid love your winter storm videos, keep up the good work.

In finnish military, people are evacuated from the grab handle, thats why it's so big and strong, it's capable of carrying both you and the bag. Also, usually with savotta bags, you can turn one of it's pockets inside out, and compress the whole bag inside the pocket, for easy carry.

I love Savotta (and Sarma) backpacks. My warm weather pack is the MiniJaakari S (small), a 20 liter pack but it holds enough gear, food and water for a two to three day adventure. After 62 years I've learned to take only what is necessary for my safety and comfort. The only piece of gear I attach to the exterior is the Finnish sleeping mat with the "wings" and everything else is in the pack. My utility belt carries my full tang knife, a survival pouch and my firearm if I decide to take one. Savotta makes the finest gear in my humble opinion.

Great video again Luke. The big strap is so huge for one reason too: You must be able to grab it with a thick glove in severe winter conditions, say -40 C. This pack is for multi-day trips, say 7 - 21 days carrying with you everything, including ammo. It is a top notch pack for professionals. One danger exists for regular users: It is so huge that one is tempted to fill it too heavily causing it to weigh far too much. A balance is needed while you pack it.
@perttutorvinen91804 жыл бұрын
Indeed, it’s not for pulling a wounded soldier as some say, its purpose is that you can use it with heavy mittens.

The store name what you english guys spell "where's the liquor" (tho great nickname), in finnish it means Varuste= gear/equipment and Leka=sledge hammer. So rough translation would be GearSledge or something like that Also the "Jääkäri" means Jaeger, or Hunter.

This thing is the real deal!!!! Thank you for your channel and all that you have shared with your community and subscribers. This one for sure as its more versatile and you can pack more if you need to. The smaller one is more like a daytrip kind and I use the Medium sized as everyday pack. Get both of them if you like and see wich one suits you best.
@K3S01L24 жыл бұрын
One thing about the straps, they are made mostly too long purposely so if you don't need all that much just shorten them by heating your knife and cutting them to your length. Also reason why there is no strap holders is that they should withstand as much as the other components in that pack and as far as I know none of those strap holders can withstand as much so its just easier to leave them out. I use myself black electrical tape but rubber bands works good too. But nice review I really appreciate that you are not choosing blindly US made gear but also use quality stuff made elsewhere. How I see the military gear is that US made gear is way further optimized than our own (yes I am from Finland too) and that goes all the way from your military rifles back to backpacks etc.

I had the pack. I agree it has first rate quality. Nothing like it. However, on my first 6 mile hike, the pack with gear was 25 pounds. That was comfortable. My second hike of 6 miles was with 35 pounds. That was not comfortable. The majority of the weight was on my shoulders. I tried making strap adjustments. That didn’t work. I made internal weight adjustments. That didn’t work. I finished the hike but in pain at the shoulders. I consider myself in good shape. I was disappointed in myself. Sadly, I had to return the pack. If the problem was me, I don’t know what went wrong. If the problem was the pack, perhaps it was too small for my frame at 5’ 10” and 160 pounds. I wanted this pack to work. But, it is actually the 4th pack from a different company, I had to return due to various discomfort at heavier weight or poor fit. I may consider a retry. Thanks for the review.
@jackblack78278 ай бұрын
You could add a dump pouch on either side to act as a pocket for long items. If they updated this pack to include side pockets and an external zipper access on the lid it would be almost perfect. Although Savotta made great quality gear it's overpriced imo. For what they charge for this pack they could at least throw in the medium sized side pouches and a rain cover.

I love my savotta jaakari pack so much. It's built like a tank. I don't have to worry about it getting "hurt" or dirty in the field. It takes a lickin and keeps on tickin. I give it a 9.5 out of 10. The only con I have is the location of the zipper on the hood. I wish the zipper was located on the back of the hood instead of the underside. Still better than any Kelty or Helikon pack I've ever owned.

Great review as always.. and what looks like an awesome pack... A bit too pricey for me though. I've seen a few in the bushcraft community using them and they do look the part... I can understand you regard it as a favourite. I was lucky and found a brand new un-issued, in it's plastic wrapper, "Dutch Army Lowe Alpine Sting" a few years back. The best part was I got it mail order from the UK and it cost me just £80.. a steal.. A while back you reviewed the smaller Strike pack..(you called the medium, it's actually the small pack) and the "Saracen" which is the large bergen. The Sting is the medium and is about 55L with the option to add two zipped on 10L side pouches that expand that capacity further... It has most of the features of the Savotta, except the floating lid and divider...(Although the earlier 'Stingray' was a variant that did have the divider...) Lowe Alpine military quality is excellent and even the inside seams are taped and have no threads.... It really is a great pack and a shame that they don't make it anymore.. When I found mine the guy was down to his last 5 packs and told me that was the end of it... Now you get a few beaten up used surplus packs, that are still great but a bit the worse for wear... They actually made an olive green version, but as it was not an issued item they are very rare... I love your site and look forward to your videos... cheers ..

I think of that one. but also the tasmanian tiger raid pack MKiii, a benefit of about 100 € cheaper for the tasmanian. But this brand looks extremely good quality, the tasmanian too but maybe less I do not know, a Finnish brand I think, I trust that offers the northern countries and I have a very special affection for the countries of the North, Norway, Iceland, Finland, Sweden etc, and the fact that this brand comes from there is a good point. enough spoken, in my life of future troubadour adventurer, I seek a solid backpack that would serve me a lifetime, I hesitate between these two models. which of these two models would advise you, knowing that the tasmanian tiger to the advantage of the price. And if you have other models in mind do not hesitate to propose me, always in this simple and classic style, a bag without frills and robust between 50 and 65 liters. Hi ,thanks for sharing. Could you help? -i can see that the interior stiched seams arent reinforced in the same way as the ones on the lid interior. ( Same way as the lid, belt and shoulder straps are finished at their perimeter) On their website you can see the fabric on that seams,that hold the PAL webbing to the backpack fabric too, its gettting loose fibers, like the fabric falling apart... Should we be concerned about this issue? i think, over time it will only getting worst. Only with normal use. -I can see that in some modells the vertical stiching is at the outside , where it holds the PAL webbing, but in others the stiching is at the inside, making it less fragile.Rocks and friction will break the exterior stiching.Where should we expect to find them if we buy one? Is the interior stiching an upgrade of new modells? -It looks like the snow will stick to the padding fabric. ( Belt, shoulder straps, and back padding). Is that correct? Thats not the best solution for winter. -Are you happy on how the belt transfers the weight ? Could it work pulling a pulka /sled? I hope i explained myself in a good way. Thanks in advance.

for the grab handle you could use some shock cord to keep it out of the way vs velcro. For the sides, you could use some strapped pouches, similar to a gun butstock holder that is found on many hunting backpacks like badlands packs. It would not be in the way of the zipper and is removeable...

Buddy, impressed w/the review as always. Luke, everything that is a con w/the Savotta Jääkäri L Rucksack is remedied w/the Sabra Mono pack. One reason, and I am not alone, a lot of folks don't pull the trigger on a Maxpedition is lack of water bottle holders. They force you to buy another add on......to this day I don't have one because of that as it's a deal breaker. 1000D vs 500D? Is it worth the extra weight? Many think not. Sabra Mono is build like a tank as well--I think you would agree. Has the outside lid pocket and doesn't look so tactical. Lets me honest, I am not sure most would be attaching things on the side and front as this would be too much for most. Sabra has options to for the side and hip belt--clearly enough. I love the Savotta Jääkäri L Rucksack, but this thing is not readily available. Mono has been out of stock, but the great guys over at Sabra are constantly changing (bettering) the pack as the actually listen to customer feedback--great quality. They also don't NICKLE and DIME their customers. You don't have to buy the belt, or lid if you don't want....it's all optional and I love that about them. I am from Idaho and live in Utah and have ZERO affiliation w/Sabra.....I just know a great company when I see one. Plus I own some of their gear and it's top notch. Oh, keepers on all the straps....no need for rubber bands. Just well made IMHO. I think a comparison would be great to get your view point as it's so trusted by many. Sabra is dang comfortable, but Savotta Jääkäri may have them beat regarding the hip belt....IDK. Thanks again, Luke. -Shane

+TheOutdoorGearReview Great review on what looks to be a great large ruck. You are by far my favorite gear review channel, the best IMO. I prefer my ILBE with assault pack attached and am looking for a good "carry everything and live on what's in the pack, belt, and MOLLE tac vest/plate carrier for a week or more" backup, in case anything happens to my ILBE ( since they are getting bought up and every large ruck I look at I find stuff I want to be added. This seems to come very close to exactly what I want in a carry all. It has MOLLE all round and compression straps (very important ), has a lot of really good stuff, high quality, and I can even see places to attach the ILBE assault pack (also important). For big, full length side pouches, I can get big shotgun and rifle scabbards that have a lot of room for a lot of stuff, MOLLE all round to add even more. It would be nice to have the pocket on top have an external zipper, be the entire size of the top pocket ( I carry meds, weapons, ammo, and gear heavy, and often carry extra pre loaded mags and extra med bags in there, as well as in the ruck. It would be nice to reach up to a zipper and grab meds and mags). I think it needs more MOLLE on the front and on that bottom pocket. Does it have heavy duty stiching, triple stiching and box and X on stress points like straps? Anyway, great review, I look to your channel for a lot of gear reviews. Good job :)

Hey Luke,. Don't know if you've done this. But could you do a overnight hike and camp with Large ALICE/The Big Green Tick. I know you did and review on her. But I would love to see you put her in action. Thanks Eric. Another Great Vid 👍

I’m in the hunt for a military style back pack in the large capacity. I love your site and immediately subscribed. Love your explanations and descriptions on back packs. I was lost before I discovered you and now I’m am so experienced in what I am looking for through your awesome videos. In the lead for myself now is the terminator back pack. I’m a fisherman off the shore only and some spots I need to get to require Hikes of a few miles through dense forest before I hit those sandy beaches. I stay for about 2 to 3 days so all the extra packets this bag offers is Awesome for me. My wife has the ICEMULE The BOSS back pack coolers also awesome! So I carry ALL the gear 40 to 45 pounds and she got the food, drinks and ice about 20 to 25 pounds. If you have any thought or ideas on my pack let me know plus price point on Terminator were to get?

Luke- awesome video as always and greetings from London UK - Any chance that you could do a review of the Kifaru 357 magnum ? I'm in the market for a mid sized multi pocket top loader and it looks like a potential.

If you like these kinds of packs you should check out the Berghaus Atlas which is similar you can find it used for around 100 dollars on ebay also the Berghaus Crusader which costs a bit more used. Personally i'd go for the Atlas it does not have palls webbing and i don't really need it on a multi day pack plus 100 dollars is cheaper than 300.

Great review. This looks like a great investment, and I mean that in the most economical sense, as well as a field sense. Would you want to review the Amazon Basics Internal Frame Hiking Backpack with Rainfly, 75L, Black? The zippers don't seem to be YKK but they seem to hold up okay. The reviews I've seen are back and forth between good and bad. I purchased one in April and, sadly, have not had the time to use it. A coworker stated he has one very similar if not just like mine and likes it a lot. I got it for $50 but it usually goes for $70. BTW if you're looking for a Stanley 4X cook set, go to Menard's (a popular big hardware store here in the Midwest); I bought mine for $75 but found it for $55 there. I was super bummed out. They have a lot of Stanley products at this particular store chain, and the prices are EXTREMELY competitive to Amazon for this brand. They even beat Walmart. I thank you very much for your reviews. If you are interested, Dave Canterbury had started a Five Minutes To Better Bushcraft series that, if he put it all onto a DVD, would concentrate a whole bunch of knowledge into a relatively short block of multiple discipline instruction. He continues to impress me with his width, breadth and depth of knowledge. It's why folks pay to learn from him and why the US military employs him for their SpecOps schools. As you say, sir: strength and honor. Thank you for what you do.

I dom't think they will make the recomended changes because it is a military pack. It is designed for wartime. If you put a small pocket on the side, it is a potential snag point. It is a good idea for civilian use though. I do like the outside zipper pocket on top of my pack.

You have to be in shape. I need to lose 100 lbs before I can lift that pack.

Great pack, but why do they use plastic buckles ? Why not Aluminium ?? Cheap plastic on a expensiv pack fr !?
