What a wonderful sight, this Volvo TGB in its proper element, the forest. You must be so proud of what you have accomplished and built. A beauty for the eye. No wonder all the cyclists stopped to take pictures of it. Happy continuation of your European trip, drive carefully, the last fool is not born yet. Hey guys. Been following you since the beginning of the bowser build. I'm also a Kiwi. I spent over 13 years living in London and now reside in Aussie. 7 Years here now. And I must say the best present I got was the snake bite kit that you talked about. I worked on a farm for a few years and constantly came face to face with brown, tiger and red belly back snakes just to name a few. I kept that kit on my belt whenever I left a vehicle. Its still in my wagon ready to go if I decide to head out for a walk or hunt. Great piece of gear to carry for everyday stuff.

Volvo is a handsome beast. Great trip you are having. I love the history. I went to the ardennes back in the summer on the bike. I didn't get to see the tanks unfortunately. They are on my list for next time. There is also a Tiger 1 in France I would love to see. I struggle with time as I have long covid which limits my riding hours, meaning trips have to be longer. If you are around Germany in the summer you should go to the big overland event at Bad Kissengen.

All I will say on the subject is that there has already been a German Overlander fined in Scandinavia when they went off-road and posted on insta. Be aware that people view what you are doing as a destructive pastime using a 6x6 military truck thru a path and then sawing trees to get thru not exactly the shining example of "leave only footprints, take only memories" treading lightly on the environment. The tree may have been put there to stop vehicles and you don't really know what is going on locally in terms of habitat or uses. The Atacama Desert has been damaged by overlanders and this gun ho attitude that it's no one's property is why no one likes Freedom camping and why people have to make their RVs or 4x4s stealthy because of this type of attitude
@michaelellert4982
@michaelellert4982 23 сағат бұрын
@@fraserwright9482clearing a fallen tree on an already cut trail isn't being destructive. It's doing the right thing and helping others out along the way.

@@michaelellert4982"Roads between fields are private. Roads through forests, with trees on both sides are illegal to drive unless you are a farmer getting access" so it's not public. One of the ways to stop access to motoX, Quads, Polaris is to put a tree across the path as they aren't strong enough to pull it away. You think it's a good thing, other people may not be on your side. I like the truck and they are nice people, but I wouldn't condone this simply because they are bubbly people.

When driving on large rocks, do not grip the steering wheel with your fingers on the inside. The steering wheels can knock your finger off if the wheel is turned quickly by a large rock. If you drive over narrow tree trunks, do not drive 90 degrees over them because they can get stuck between the rear wheels. Otherwise, you will be surprised that the Terrain car 13 can make its way through forests you don't think is possible to drive in.

When you think that on the standard Tiger, each track pin has needle roller bearings that need greasing... In Russia the grease froze, they also needed slimmer tracks fitting for rail transport.... keep it simple to maintain and build, like the T34 and Sherman. Where to camp in Spain? I would head south to the mountains and parks around Murcia. Explore from Valencia to Gibraltar. Cordoba, Granada, Seville, Malaga and all the coastal villages are beautiful and will make great content. There is a custom made google map called "Acampada libre en España", which has some specific camp spots identified - that's a good start. There are also facebook groups and reddit threads with some good, up to date information. Can't wait to see where you adventure!

When you go to France you must visit Ouradour sur Glane near Limoges. That is a village where all te citizen killed by the German in WW2. The village is still the same as it is leaved by the German. Impressing.

At the risk of causing a demarcation dispute I notice HE does all the comfortable driving and SHE does all the running ahead to get the approach shots, all the running through the forest alongside the vehicle to get the action profile shots and the running to catch up having got the disappearing in the distance shots from behind. 🙂

Chris would love to be filming too, I just don't really enjoy driving. I'll practice a bit when we get to easier terrain and we can swap :) thanks for watching!
