Actually, these chants are in Pali and Sanskrit- two languages from India. They were brought to Cambodia by south and East Indians who also established kingdoms there. Eventually these practices were transported to Thailand as well by the Khmers and Indians

Joseyl Alstrom At Wat Bang Phra - 45kms West of Bangkok you don’t ‘pay’ for the tattoo, you make an offering of 25 baht and a packet of cigarettes. This is placed in a tray at the start and the monk then prays over everybody who’s there to receive a tattoo. There’s then also a donation envelope to the Wat. You donate whatever amount of money you want, it’s up to you. When it’s your turn for the tattoo you place the envelope in a pot next to the monk. I got mine done there 6 days ago.

Joseyl Alstrom there must have been about 15 people getting a tattoo before me - I saw them changing the needles out every time. All I can say is go there and take a look for yourself and make your mind up then. When mine was finished there was about 20 people still waiting to be tattooed. Thais and tourists. I got there at 9am and had a bit of a wait. Everyday is different of course. I think the day I went was a ‘Thai Bank Holiday’ Good luck.

Thai, Laos culture was just sub Kingdom of the Khmer Empire later onThai invaded Angkor and Sacked it in 1430 A.D and took all the music and dance arts of Sak Yant to Thailand or Siam before they called it Thailand today. All the writing are all in Khmer Alphabets. Thai version calling it is Khom letters to distort it from Khmer. If you want Authentic real original sounds chanted to bless your Sak yant get it from a khmer master. Not copy cat version that looses it originality sounds quality of writing meanings and khmer alphabets. The Thai version is not original. You won't get the maximum benefits. Go to Cambodia and get a real letters that are correct and qualities of it's actually package and origins at birth.

Listen, I am Khmer and this guy (that performed the Sak on Jolie) may have knowledge of the sacred tattoo techniques and its history probably told by his parents. But he is not of any higher level or of any qualifications to be sitting above his interviewer or anyone else for that matter. That is of pure personal arrogance and expectations of respect undue to him. Angelina Jolie had probably seen something cool and different while visiting Southeast Asia, that is from your typical Western tatts and it's techniques and decided this would uphold her edgy and blood vial drinking (of Billy Bob Thornton) image to keep herself mysterious and relevant to the fans that care to see her as such. Let's not make something pure and sacred and centuries old into another westernized tred, please.

Sak Yant is THAI culture. But Thai people use Ancient Khmer script because Khmer script is very similar to Pallava script ( Indian Buddism script ). Thai people believe that Khmer script is sacred and use it for Buddist ritual ( because it is very similar to original form of buddist script ). That's it. It is nothing about Khmer thing. All geometric patterns or animals are all designed by Thai monks or Thai Sak Yant tattoo designers
