Thanks, not from a country with enough dry to have canyons, I see what happens when it goes wrong, wanted to see what it’s like when things go right. At least we never have the rain problem. Because it is always raining, grip, clothing and a high chance of hypothermia if anything goes wrong are more probable. Watching the sun on KZbin means I remember what it is when it returns. I can see the differences, the really smooth rock, the really clear base of the Canyon. That Canyon is flushed regularly. If it doesn’t have a 5 star cleaning service, then nature must do a job. Caves are always a constant temperature, but normally it’s the things that live in them that scare me off.

Wow, that hike was claustrophobia-inducing and definitely for skilled hikers only. Icey and dicey.
@theparkjunkie2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, I guess I should say that I don’t really consider it a “hike”… These canyon journeys require a certain level of skill above placing one foot in front of the other… 🤔 FUN stuff tho!!!

Yeah, I hear you… I actually rented those guys from a local modeling agency. They were the only ones available that day. 🤷♂️ I had plans for a more popular hike, but one look at them & I was like, “nope, we’re headed straight for a dark slot canyon”.

That was so much fun to watch, and I'm sure a blast to do! I am curious if you take time to check out the small scenic spots in that region- like Goblin Valley, Cedar Breaks, Hovenweep, Red Canyon, and others. Lot of history from the ancient civilizations, as well as amazing places to explore. Enjoy!
@theparkjunkie2 жыл бұрын
Yes, absolutely! Each of those places are incredible, & extremely unique! Goblin Valley is one of the most bizarre scenes I’ve ever laid eyes on! Thanks for reminding me that it’s time to go back there!

@@theparkjunkie I'd like to revisit Natural Bridges NM someday. I saw a bit from the overlooks but I got there too late to explore, and I was headed to Canyonlands south unit the next day. I bet it is beautiful this time of year. Enjoy your next adventure!

@@timwolfers7880 So yeah, Natural Bridges is kinda surrounded by Bears Ears, & just to the south is the Valley of the Gods! The entire area is just insane! Another planet!

Another slot canyon hike, very cool (pun intended). I really like the stretch between the east entrance and the tunnel--there's a bunch of neat places to pull over and explore without the crowds. One of my fondest memories was hiking up into the natural bowl above the petroglyphs after a rainstorm. All the little waterpocket pools were filled with frogs mating and their "song" was echoing off the canyon walls. Are the bighorns still hanging out along that part of the roadway these days?
@theparkjunkie2 жыл бұрын
You nailed in Yawn, the east side is like a secret planet of its own. I often pull off up there & just wander back into the hinterlands. Never see a soul… but the scenery is just insane! It doesn’t even matter where, just get out on the east side… & yes, it is pretty “cool” down in there… 🤣

I've been to Zion several times but I have yet to do the keyhole, on my list. Awesome video👍🏼
@theparkjunkie2 жыл бұрын
Yeah, if you’ve got some canyoneering skills, it’s a pretty simple run. Combine it with Pine Creek for a real day of slot canyon action!
@suepeterson56752 жыл бұрын
Interesting for sure. In your adventures going through areas like this , have you ever come across anything that gave you second thoughts & questioned it ? 👍👍😊
@theparkjunkie2 жыл бұрын
Sure, I've turned back more than a few times due to weather concerns. It's a no-brainer... if it looks like a storm, you just call it a day & go watch the heavens rage from a safe area above the canyon... 🤠
@onething2472 жыл бұрын
Excellent once again! Wondering if you came across any wild life down in the narrows. Thanks for sharing!
@theparkjunkie2 жыл бұрын
No, no wildlife in the Narrows, or Keyhole. You generally don’t really want to see anything down in these tight canyons, (other than owls, bats or birds, cause it’s impossible for land roaming creatures to navigate this terrain without ropes. The Narrows is slightly more hospitable, but it’s not a great environment for most land dwellers either. I was doing a tight slot canyon once & came across a rattlesnake in a large pool which had somehow fallen in there… Not a happy creature, but luckily, there was enough room for us to each have our space, & I passed by unscathed. I would have helped the thing, but what are ya gonna do? It’s a rattlesnake?!? 😳

@theparkjunkie2 жыл бұрын
No, I’ve never seen Keyhole dry. That slot at the end thru which we waded is usually a long swim, but is shallow right now. Filled in with sand… I have ran Pine Creek before & avoided water. Only once tho…
