At one point you say that a monad is the "smallest" substance but this is incorrect to say since a monad is not material and has no shape. He is not just arbitrarily using the term perception, he means it literally. It is an idealistic monism in which nothing exists ultimately but perception and all material thing are really just ways of perceiving. God is the universal perceiver or the ultimate monad. I think at least one of the two of things guys can't really wrap his head around this concept because he can only interpret it through his materialistic framework of reality of which is required to give up in order to truly grasp the idea. That is why he keeps squirming at the idea of using the word perception.

soldatheero that is quite true. I believe it is similarly difficult to get "out the box" enough to understand that we are all (fundamentally) "ideas in the Mind of God" like Bishop Berkeley stated.

Completely agree. Leibniz's theories require a very open mind and the acceptance of reductive phenomenalism.

These guys are really providing a poor analysis of Monads. Confused on the basics.

It really is perception:) At least I think it is. This solves the problem of change and continuity.

in what way? like storing data in a crystal like you'd store data on a flash disk?

ayodele sirjet I think you mean "does a crystal have memory?" which implies subjectivity. I don't think plants have memory or subjectivity. But crystals store data and the genome stores and expresses data.

That which is crystallized, clear, transparent, & revealing is contained within a hard exterior. That which is hard, is like an old hermit like the man to the right of christ in the crucifixion story. When we are old we look to the past & all that we can see is an old memory. We find this type of energy in early aquarius & late scorpio. Studying astrology enhances ones understanding of philosophy

Soul is not before Mind and sheer potentiality of Ultimate Infinity alone is not the preexistent factor underlying Reality. The soul of Monad is the soul of God that is the first and sustaining creation emerging from Ultimate Infinity drawing back to the void, that we don't know because we are in the soul of man (monad), worlds below and trapped in this conscious mind maya, which is embedded in the purpose of Creation to sync to the subconscious mind in greater mastery and ascension to reach Truth as we evolve the inner soul by points in the heart into alignment with the soul of God to join in union. Mind is the underlying matrix between all reality manifested here in physicality in what you could call the conscious expression of mind, that is senses, but is not the tapestry of the world's expression that seems like a film absent of a free will, but this is only the delusive expression we have access to in the here and now unless we are shifted by forces above where the true Will lies. This is the point where Soul and Mind are One. This we can only see traces of, as a hologram, or Plato's shadows of true archetypes in a cave. --MW

Aristotle called animals the appetitive soul. It’s like Leibniz is referencing telos in minerals described by Aristotle. I always thought that the vegetative soul still had appetites tho. Leibniz seems to think minerals have appetites too.. Trippy man…

Monads are not “things.” Monads are minds. Do these guys not know Leibniz was an Idealist??? Just basic to his metaphysics.
