Go watch Jordan Mailata’s tape. Both he and Lane are on islands 24/7 with 0 help and still are statistically better than Sewell… Then you watch the tape and you realize it’s not just on paper. Jeff Stoutland must get his black magic from the same place the Chiefs get it because he’s easily the best OLine coach in the league, maybe in history.

As a birds fan I love LJ for obvious reasons, but mailata is the highest rated player in the NFL at a 98.7 it’s a close debate. Love penei but it’s hard to put him over LJ and JM at that point it goes to longevity

Does anyone else thinks it's weird that people point out the fact that a good line is necessary to be good as if that's some kind of secret? That's why it's so frustrating generally being a fan of a lot of teams who were consistently bad for long stretches. GMs and owners will keep throwing draft picks at QBs and skill positions while their oline is awful and everyone acts baffled as to why they keep losing, except the fans. It's really not rocket science, if your line sucks you're never going to be an elite team in the NFL. You might make the playoffs and win a game but you'll never go all the way if you don't have the right big men at the foundation. Line before QB.

Howie understands this philosophy but to be fair he has the longevity and pull to go for an oline/dline man while there is a great Qb/skill player on the board. Struggling teams want a splash now and that is the problem. Most Gm‘s will be out of the league before their Hof line player develops. You could have drafted Sewell and Wirfs and Humphrey and people would have called for a qb a wr etc. I’m over exaggerating but the oline is normally not flashy and a struggling team has a lot of holes given that most line players need time to adjust to the nfl the gm is out the door before they have developed. Howie was ridiculed for drafting o line/ d line and people in Philly wanted his head a few years back. And now most of the fanbase in Philly understands let howie cook. Look at the bengals they drafted chase and had success immediately even though the line was atrocious. Add a line man while the rest of the line is trash and you will see an improvement don’t get me wrong but it won’t fix everything. Line play is a group effort in the end.

Let me say this first Sewell is an amazing player better then 99% of nfl oline men rn but Johnston is just a HoFer playing out of his mind the past few years. There is a significant impact on the eagles offense if he’s injured and his stats this year are better than Sewell. It’s not like Shipley disrespected the lions O line they are second place in his ranking and as he said it was the past few weeks that the eagles have inched out the lions o line. His award is just for one tackle in the end. The eagles O line has played out of they’re minds this season. Their worst o line man by pff metrics is jurgens who is a pro bowler in his own right. Jurgens is replacing a future HoF center in Kelce amicably. Name me a team that looses his future HoF player and still goes on to be no 1 in their position ranking. Once again it is nothing against the lions they are a tremendous O line but I agree with Shipley the eagles in this last stretch just inched out the win. I for one am expecting the eagles and lions to meet in the nfc championship which will be a tough game for both teams. As an eagles fan I’m definitely biased and hope for the eagles to win but who ever wins I’m going to support in the Super Bowl. The lions are similar in grit to the eagles which I truly enjoy watching they are never out of a game. The adversity they had to overcome this season with feeling like 90% of the defense being on IR is commendable. They never gave up losing hutch early in the season and other key players. They took the punches and smiled at the adversity like that’s all you got.
