I come from a Samoan background and after watching the doco I understood where he came from, people wondering why he was so naive it’s simple, his parents like most Polynesian parents from Christian backgrounds try to bring their kids up pure, to help others in need etc. but what the parents don’t teach a lot is teaching them how to prep themselves of the dangers that go on in the world and that’s how he got easily duped

He actually did come around but he couldn’t stay on the field. I do think he would have been a better player if it didn’t happen but he wasn’t going to dominant the league. Much of it was his size but the NFL is just a different animal. ND was beating up on teams with barely any NFL talent that year and when they met a roster full of NFL talent it showed.

I gathered from Pat that Manti asked for a sign from God that USC was the right decision and God spoke through a Janitor. Although he hated the news that he should go to ND, he trusted God's advice to go to ND; he then became a Heisman Finalist, went pro, and used his trials of being embarrassed on the world stage to help others. When this was happening in real time, I knew he was being treated unfairly. And it wasn't just the media who treated him like s$!t .. it was damn near everyone. Fans, non-football fans, football culture, pop culture, scouts, gms, players. Almost everyone was horrible to him and had no empathy for the fact that he was innocently manipulated and HE WAS JUST A KID IN COLLEGE. Society was so behind too. Back then, it was embarrassing enough just to admit that you met someone online and even worse if you got scammed online. But fast forward to just 10 years later and it seems like almost everyone has either dated someone online or been victim to a scam or a hoax. Manti would have been justified in walking around and slapping the snot out of everyone he met. It's amazing he didn't lose his mind or his values while the whole world was making his life miserable.

don't feel sorry for him. he honestly doesn't need anyone's pity. this made his stronger as a person, he got a bag off of this. made a couple million in the nfl and just got married. I hope he takes this story and makes a few more million off of it. I'm glad that Netflix was able to make this happen.

That's where I lose all ability to believe. It's all too convoluted...the whole "he had a really believable girl voice" thing is hard to believe as well. It all seemed like a Hoax to raise Te'o's Draft Stock from the start...and when it came out, they went into damage control and a Tuiososopa (Tuiohsoworthless in Athletics) relative comes out of the woodworks as the fall guy.

Manti was a sheltered kid from Hawaii and yes VERY religious. If he would have chose USC maybe this never happened. That being said, he chatted with this person for four whole years in college. I mean that’s a long time. I’m glad he is married now with a family.

i can admit i was catfished hard, i was in a "relationshiip" with a girl who was an actual girl and we talked on the the phone and stuff years prior and she disappeared for awhile than we got back into convo and she gave me a story that was believable. well things got tot he point were we did things that long distance relationships do,. eventually certain chain of events happened and i caught her slipping and i found out the whole thing was ruse to use me for big assignment in college class including out phone sex calls that she recorded and played them in her class. i lived in California which is a 1 party consent state and she did nothing illegal. its something that happens, it sucked really bad at the time but it doesnt bother me anymore.

big Irish fan, bought a #5 jersey when he was there. I remember him being ridiculed and blasted, I would tell people even with the bias of being a fan, that can literaly happen to anyone especially someone who was mostly sheltered his life and was probably lonely. Te'o is a good guy, to think if he would have went to BYU would any of this have the exposure that it did
