PMac, This Indiana geologist recognizes a sand spring. Someone placed topsoil on top what looked like... strips of sand. The sand lens is trending upslope somewhere... and when it rains, the water flows through the sand until it pops up through the surface. There is water upslope, pushing the water within the sand upward whenever it gets a chance. If it is just grass out there, don't worry about it but don't even think about building anything down there or digging around there.... And it is likely not a "flood plain" just a water saturated sand lens. Again, don't go digging around down there, you will regret it.

Random pond related stories: my grandparents bought a property on the side of a mountain. When they bought it, it was virtually in the middle of nowhere. They had 3 big ponds built on their property. A few years later the government claimed part of their property to build a highway on. One day nutria's ate away at the side of one of the ponds enough for it to collapse and flood out the highelway. Everyone in the area was on the highway claiming their fish. Lol

Best way to increase property value. My parents had a little place in the country with about 20 acres, mostly wooded with a small creek. We timbered half, leveled and partially started pond walls(lot harder than you think so we had pros come in for that). The cost of machinery rentals and hiring the actual pond builders was less than $60,000 but the property value with the pond and rec area increased more than 5x the cost. But yeah, who the heII owns a pond but can't fish it. That's like having an 11 inch python and staying a virgin.

Pat, as a Stormwater engineer, you might need to consider putting in an underground stone bed or underground basin. It sounds like you might have a groundwater problem whenever it rains; the water table might be really low there. I also saw another comment about potentially having sinkholes developing, which definitely could happen. Might want to hire a Stormwater/civil engineer to look into this

My house has what is essentially a dungeon. In the basement, the doors have deadbolts on the outside, and one of them has a little switch in the frame that's depressed when the did is closed. MECCA of salmon fishing. Also the Cook Inlet, Kachemak Bay, and Prince William sound are the greatest halibut grounds out there. Guaranteed fish, no boat required for salmon fishing, but out on a guided boat you WILL catch 50-200 lb halibut.

Pat, how many green shirts do you have!!????? Hey Pat, you could grow rice! You might have an aquifer under your backyard. Fishing is easy, sit there and cast and reel back. The hard part is fighting the BORDEM!

Bob retired 4 or 5 years ago. The show is still going strong though. Give them another listen.

Ever thought about making a man made pond? Due to the soil contact this might be a good way to use the land and you could probably make it into a nice little pond to chip golf balls over to a green.

Pat, you need to grow one or two Weeping Willow trees in your backyard. Their roots will suck up all the water and keep the field dry.

Pat, you could easily dig a hole to the lowest part of your property line during a dry period with a man made pond, and it would always keep the water flowing to the run off/retention pond to a natural stream.

I just seen that Dak Prescott is potentially a free agent next year and the Colts could pick him up, is that a possibility and would that be a good thing for the HORSESHOE???

If you build a pond correctly then you won’t have to do things like clear the algae. Putting in aquatic plants to use the nutrients that are in the pond (which cause the algae) will add habitat and make it beautiful rather than just a sod yard into a pool of water with nothing else

Is that your septic lid? I would build a retaining wall and build a ditch full of Colorado stones to keep the water flowing away from the house.
