What's ironic about these gambling suspensions and bans is that the pro sports leagues stayed away from Las Vegas BECAUSE of this issue.

Shams was very annoying with the way he tried to high horse the NBA over the NFL, when the NFL has not dealt with something like this yet. The reason Calvin Ridley wasn't banned is because he wasn't betting on games he was playing in, or rigging games based on his bets. To act like those two situations are the same is insane

I think most people are just confused as to how it’s illegal to bet on your success. Betting to lose or miss is wrong but what’s wrong with betting on yourself to win? Or bet on yourself to score over 20? Or bet on yourself to get 5 assists?

@beardofnursing8602
@beardofnursing8602 25 күн бұрын
@@xAGiiL3UnTiTL3D I'm with you on your first point. If you're betting on your own team to win, I see nothing wrong with that. However, if you're betting on specific stats for yourself, then your focus won't be on making the best decisions for your team to win. Say it's late in the 4th quarter. Your team is down by 2. You've been struggling with your shooting all night, but you only need 3 more points to win your bet. You have the ball and have the opportunity to shoot a somewhat contested 3 (and you're not Curry) or make an easy pass to your center who has been dominating all night. You think that bet isn't going to influence your decision a bit? Same thing if you're going for a number of assists. You might pass up a quality shot and try to force an ill-advised pass to meet your quota. If you're going for steals, you're probably going to play more aggressively and possibly get yourself fouled out early.

I met one of Pete Rose's bookies back in 2012 and we talked for several hours about Pete. He told me Pete ALWAYS bet that HIS TEAM (The Reds) would win. He told me he knew every bookie that Pete dealt with and they all said the same thing, Pete ALWAYS bet for the Reds to win. Back in those days they didn't have all the crazy prop bets so he never was caught up in that stuff. He was such a competitor that he was so confident in his team that he bet for them to win. That's coming straight from the guy who took MILLIONS in bets from Pete, and he has a bullet fragment still lodged between his skull and brain to show how dangerous being a bookie in the mid west was back in those days. Bottom line is Pete Rose SHOULD be in the Baseball Hall of Fame. He is the Greatest hitter that the game ever seen and Bart "Yellow Fingers" Giamatti was WAY more corrupt than Pete Rose ever was and wanted to jam Pete up anyway possible and he did. Have you ever heard Pete say he bet against his team? I didn't think so, Don't bash the Greatest Hitter in Major League Baseball. There are plenty of scum bag druggies and wife beaters that played the game so go after them.

You reap what you sow. These leagues jump as fast as they can in bed with these sportsbooks for sponsorship money. Lining certain pockets is perfectly acceptable. Bet $25 on a baseball game and youre blackballed. Bunch of hypocrites. If you’re going to put a foot down and discourage everyone from it then lead by example. But that would lose too much money for certain people. Wild to me that certain people expect players to not be involved when it’s so readily available meanwhile we’re gonna jump into a sponsorship deal with the same people you’re not allowed to mess with.

They continue to evolve to limit losses as much as possible. House always wins.

Well lets be honest, they started off by offering Charmin soft bets once sports betting started getting legalized across the country to get as many people in the door as they could. Now they're shifting to bets that make more sense for their business model, now that the initial explosion in growth has happened(surely the rate of signups has to have fallen off quite a bit from what it was just a few years ago). I'd imagine most of us have had that feeling at some point too, looking at some of the lines they were advertising and just thinking "...well that doesn't seem very sustainable on the house's side..." lol. Now it's "back to normal" I suppose.

He was throwing prop bets They were taking his unders and he would miss three pt shots on purpose or take himself out early with an injury so he accumulates no stats

You are naive if you didn’t realize sports betting has ALWAYS been hand in hand with sports You’d have less than half the people still watching if there were no way to bet on it Now maybe you prefer it in the shadows that’s fine. I strongly disagree, I say let adults be adults and just punish harshly any guy that gets caught I love sports but no way I’m watching reg season games on a random Wednesday unless I have money on it Nobody is watching charlotte v Atlanta without money on the line

Is there any sort of department dedicated to this kinda stuff for nfl/nba etc? If not why not make one? Have in the agreements that the league can check anything whenever, players and refs. Create ai for red flags to find in bank statements or whatever. I get that could be seen as breach of privacy but its a billion dollar business

Of course it was a bad plan. That’s why they got caught. All the good plans….we don’t know about all of those that worked.
