This thing is great- I tried one out today and it blows away Line 6. The only thing I was not crazy about was the wah pedal effects which are still not as good as my Cry Baby Wah pedal. But the reverb, delay, flanger and distortion and amp models rock. Looking at this and Kemper amp system.

Renaissance Man I find that with the wahs the cab used makes a ton of difference. I like my high gain tones to be slightly scooped but doing this makes the wah sound like garbage. So on the patches that I know I’ll be using wah I use a brighter cab, lighter OD and a bit of chorus. Makes the wah sound incredible without taking away from my desired tone.

Great video! It was very informative! I'm brand spanking new to the world of effects/amp/cab modeling/profiling, so I hope you don't mind answer a few questions for me. I apologize in advance if these questions are annoying since they are so basic and introductory. (1) Can you play the HeadRush board into a guitar cab, or is this unit meant to go into an audio interface? (2) If you can use it through a cab, would I need a 3rd party power amp? (3) Assuming I can use it with a cab, would an FRFR cab be better than a regular guitar cab? (4) Does the HeadRush work in the same way that the Fractal AX8 and Line 6 Helix work? (5) How would you compare this unit to a Kemper, i.e., are there more/less options, or quality of options (assuming you have experience with the Kemper)? Thank you so much for your time. I sincerely appreciate it!
@ThePedalGuy7 жыл бұрын
Hi, Thanks for the kind words and questions. I'll try to keep this easy to follow. In answer to your questions. 1. The HR can be an audio interface via USB, and it can also be sent to a mixer, power PA speakers, and/or a guitar amp. To my knowledge, it will not power a cabinet so it will need to go to an amp head then to a cab. 2. You will need an amp. Personally, I think it would likely be easier to use a pair of powered PA speakers and make use of the HR amp and cab simulation. Should be much cleaner sounding. And you have the Celestion Impulse Responses included as well, which we did a video on and will be releasing very soon. 3. Based on my last two answers, the choice of cab is up to you. 4. Very much in the same fashion as far as the Helix goes. I have not used the Fractal but from the looks of it, it does appear to work in the same fashion as well. FWIW, the HR has a touchscreen, which does not appear to be the case with the Helix LT. I have heard the Helix and it does sound great as well. 5. I've had limited experience with the Kemper, and that product is really more a jack of all trades in that it is in fact an amp that profiles other classic and modern amps. It does include effects and also comes with a rather hefty price tag of $1799. I hope that helps you out. Ultimately it really is your choice as to what feature set you're looking for and how much you're willing to pay. If $999 is your hard limit, the HR or Helix LT would both be fine choices. If you're willing to push your budget further and you want an actual amp, the Kemper might be a good choice. What I can tell you is that I came to the table with a lot of doubt in my mind as I have hear a lot of amp modeling in my time and I was honestly very surprised at the quality of the HR and this is why we have so many videos for it. We're a dealer and we evangelize the products that we like. I like the HR and maybe it's the right choice for you. Please feel free to hit me up with any further questions. info@thepedalguy.com All the Best, ThePedalGuy

First, I'd like to commend you for being a stand-up individual for answering my novice questions in such great detail. That's very respectful of you, and not many people would have done that. I sincerely appreciate it! Until now, I've been heavily leaning towards Kemper. I liked that it's a power head, and the idea of being able to profile all my amps into a single unit, as well as trading profiles. In a nutshell, this is the jist of what I've read up until now (I can't vouch for the credibility of the info): -Fractal AX8/Axe FXii is the way to go if you want a quality effects-heavy unit that can be highly tweaked. -Kemper is the way to go if you want a multiple amp unit with your own effects. Amps are less tweak able. The quality and quantity of effects pale in comparison to the Fractal. -Complaints that Helix and Positive Grid Bias are lesser versions of the AX8 and Kemper, respectively. I'm looking forward to watching your other HR videos to better educate myself on the unit. And I'll start to look at some powered PAs as you've suggested. I'm guessing they are a good option because they have a flat EQ response (unlike guitar cabs). Thank you once again for your patient explanation of everything.

@@ThePedalGuy Sorry to bug you again with stupid question. But need to make sure before I spend this much money. While I`m playing a song with my band, or my backing tracks, can I quickly switch from one created rig to another in the middle of a song? Many of my songs call for a clean chorus type tone, but then need distortion delay type, ect for lead. Or can I also just add extra effects like delay on a lead or rythem part? If I can do these things, how many rigs at once can I pull up on the fly? Some of my songs need even more than two changes during it. Thanks for your time!

@@HumbleHeartMinistry Not a problem. Yes, these can be accomplished with a Setlist, which I have done a video about. @HumbleHeartMinistry3 жыл бұрын
@@ThePedalGuy Thanks for the quick reply. But I think your misunderstanding my question. Or maybe I misunderstood your answer? I need to go from one tone to another, sometimes 3 different tones while playing the song, not between songs. I need to be able to use the bottom row of foot buttons to change the rigs while playing a song, not the up and down scroller buttons. I need to go from a clean chorus/delay, or accoustic sound, ect. rhythm tone, to one or two different lead tones when I am in middle of the song. My rp-1000 does that, and lets me have the 4 bottom foot buttons to change instantly to 4 different multi-effect/amp cabs settings, during a song. Sorry to bug you again, but if it can`t do that, it will not work for my needs.

I have an M9 ,then I got a Strymon Big Sky(sold my spleen to get it,lol)and now I'm spoiled..the Strymon sounds much nicer but the problem there is the Strymon is terrible at %100 wet verbs because the reverb trails stack up and make the signal 6-10 db louder but the Strymon only allows a puny -3db cut (to the Line6's -20 db cut)so the volume runs away from you and becomes unusable live.I'm forced to use the M9 live because of it.The Line 6 are pretty good but the high end verbs are like heaven.

Still don't know if it sounds good?
@ThePedalGuy7 жыл бұрын
Hi David, Thanks for your feedback. Personally, I think it sounds pretty cool and you get a lot of bang for the buck at $999. I did this series of videos because of my enthusiasm for what I heard when I started using it. I got inspired and next thing you know, a series of six videos was created. Loading in the Impulse Responses over the weekend was pretty cool indeed as I've never owned a cab with Celestion speakers installed. Haven't used it to reamp yet, but I have a feeling it would be eye opening. However, I do think that not all of the patches are fantastic. There's probably a few of them that need further tweaking. But that's the beauty of the HeadRush. You can alter every little thing until you're happy with it. At the end of the day, this is all subjective in nature. Everyone is going to hear something different. All the Best, ThePedalGuy
