I'm super excited about this one. One of my all-time favorite ambient reverbs just levelled up and became an instrument all in its own right. Afterneath V3 is crazy versatile and inspiring, especially when used together with a CV sequencer or expression pedal. Hope you enjoyed the demo, and that the sounds inspired you as much as they inspired me. @fullofbritt4 жыл бұрын
Great video! One question - I'm using the same Korg SQ-1 as you have in this video, for expression control with the Afterneath V3. I'm noticing a couple issues and was curious if you had thoughts/advice: 1) The knob above each step does not offer the same full range of tones that are available with the Drag knob or Moog expression pedal - for example, with the middle mode setting (minor scale) the Drag knob/expression pedal give me around 14 tones across the scale -- but the SQ-1 step knobs only offers 6 tones. Is this to be expected, or is there an issue with the sequencer? 2) The sequencer will not work the with final Octave mode at all. Again, the drag knob and Moog expression pedal work fine with the Octaves setting, but the SQ-1 doesn't offer any secondary tones. I'm not super-experienced with sequencers, so I can't tell if this is user error or a problem with the SQ-1 or what. I come to you for help because you were obviously able to make some amazing sounds with the SQ-1 hooked up to the Afterneath.

Stefan, your channel is my go-to source for pedal research. There are a few reasons why this is so. First, you begin each demo with a clean guitar tone. If I click on a demo and the host is shredding away, that's an automatic pass. Second, you impart just enough information when you talk. You never go on and on and on about the product you are showing. Third, you let the pedal do the talking. Your text explaining the functions is perfect. As an old geezer, (66) this is perfect. I can pause and consider your helpful text on the subject. Well done, sir!

Hey there Stefan! First of all, thanks for this stunning demo! I've been watching your videos for a while now. I was thinking about getting a EQD Afterneath V3 and thought about asking you about your experience with the pedal. Specifically I wonder, how the Afterneath works with the OBNE Expression Ramper (not the Slider), since the Drag-Knob seems to move in steps. Do you have any experience on that? Furthermore I wonder how the Afterneath reacts to a complicated Delay in front (like a Source Audio Nemesis Delay with e.g. Pitch-Shifted Delays). If I understood it correctly, the Afterneath creates most of its Reverb-Sounds via very small/short delay lines, so it would be interesting to know if it works with complicated Delays. If you have an experience with that I'm interested! Otherwise have a great weekend! Greetings, Morris :)

Fun to see a guitarist use the SQ-1. It's going to be interesting to watch the evolution of this merging of synth gear with guitar and probably other instruments soon to. Vocal and synths has been a thing with the vocoder for some time, but I suspect eurorack has opened doors and broken some barriers that might be comparable to the revolutions and experimental stuff happening in the music and art of the 60's and 70's. This AN V3 is probably a result or consequence of the AN eurorack module they recently made, and also Zoia is a modular synth in itself. Also Strymon just made their version of a module for guitarpedals/line level integration with eurorack so I suspect many more will be be infected with GAS as companies probably will invent even more new breathtaking hybrid equipment and instruments and at a much larger scale. On another hand, the economy for most people are going to be strained for a while so we might also see more people utilizing abandoned or "out of date" stuff and maybe more diy to? Amazing that only an LFO can do so much modulation in this thing, no wonder there is a wizard on it. So much yet fairly simple and user friendly compared to really advanced pedals : o !!! This pedal excites me far more than the AN Eurorack module. Maybe you should try to make a chain with the whole family, V1, V2 V3? Let's say they are three bears, so what pedal would be Goldilocks? Anyway, great as always Stefan Take care and stay safe.
@thepedalzone4 жыл бұрын
I use my SQ-1 quite a bit. Used it in other demos before this one. If a pedal has CV capabilities then you gotta take full advantage of it 😊To answer your last question, the V3 is the goldilocks. Even if you're not interested in going all crazy with CV modulation and sequencing as I did, then you still get reverb trails, flexi-switching and expression control in the V3, which are features everybody can appreciate. Just the fact that this one has trails makes it better than the old ones 👍
@jonaseggen22304 жыл бұрын
@@thepedalzone Yes I realize my three bears analogy does not make that much sense as the oldest bear is the biggest and therefore "more" bear, while when it comes to the pedals it is the youngest pedal that is "more". I got a Warped Vinyl HI-Fi that I often feed with a five step sequence that is also clocked in another tempo than everything else. By manipulating that clock source, an lfo, and triggering this clock with another lfo the modulation appears somewhat random. At least it's unpredictable.

Once again I thoroughly enjoyed that.... so I love the shimmery ambient nature of that pedal, if I have the dispatch master which also has reverb how do I use these two pedals together without it getting overwhelming on the reverb side of things.... I assume your answer is don’t use the reverb part of the dispatch master if you have the afterneath as I would be kinda redundant, right ? Thanks

This is awesome!! Do you think you need an expression pedal to get the most of this V3 version - if I’m making a small rig without expression, should I just get a V1 or V2 version?
@thepedalzone3 жыл бұрын
100% still go for the V3. You get soft-click relay switching, instead of the clunky and super loud 3PDT switches on the V1 and V2. You also get momentary triggering, as well as the ability for buffered bypass, which lets your reverb trails decay naturally when you turn off the pedal. The V3 is just a better product overall, compared to the older versions, at least in my book 😊

Zoia is an incredible device. Can practically become anything you want it to be. I've found myself using it more as a creative CV and MIDI controller than an actual effects unit. Empress killed it with that one.

This just sounds too good to be true. How well does it sound in the front of the amp though. I’m just curious because I don’t have an affects loop on my board

The pedal is running straight into the amp all of the time in this demo (except for the synth example. There I'm running straight into my interface). So since it seems like you like the sounds you're hearing here, then you'll definitely like the sounds you'll hear from it as you're running it straight into your own amp :)

ThePedalZone that just sounds incredible for not even being in stereo! Great demo!

Hello. Do you have a video that features The Afterneath + Rainbow Machine?
@thepedalzone Жыл бұрын
I don't think so. But that is definitely a fun pedal combo

love this demo! hey, ?, can the afterneath go directly into the korg sq1 or do you need an expression pedal out?
@thepedalzone3 жыл бұрын
Happy you liked the demo! You can go directly out of the SQ-1 and into the Afterneath via a mini-jack to jack converter cable.

The Old Blood Noise Endeavors - Expression Slider is compatible ? I'd look at picking both up they sound great.
@thepedalzone4 жыл бұрын
Yes, the OBNE Expression Slider is compatible with the Afterneath V3. You actually see me use them together a bunch of times in this demo 😊👍 Happy you liked the sounds

Great demo as always my friend. A little off topic, but what is the other pedal in the thumbnail of this video?
@thepedalzone4 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Really happy you enjoyed it 🙏 The pedal in the background is the Lichtlaerm Audio Trugbild Chorus/Vibrato

Your videos are always edited so clean. What editing app do you use??

Thanks! I use Adobe Premiere Pro

sounds great. wondering if it can do less shimmery, darker type sounds though?? thanks for the demo :)
@thepedalzone4 жыл бұрын
It can easily do dark stuff. Just max out the diffuse and Damp controls, and pull that Drag control dooooown, and you go down into the darkest drone pits there is. And if you wanna venture into the world of CV sequencing with it, then you can just set it to sequence the lower ranges of the drag control, giving you access to octave down drones.

I am either considering this pedal or the Transmisser (which seem to be discontinued for some reason) which one do you recommend? I play synths mostly, but I want to play the guitar soon :D Awesome demo as always btw

In your opinion, would you go with this or the obne dark star first? I'm leaning towards the obne but I'm unsure
@thepedalzone9 ай бұрын
All depends on what kind of ambience you're going for. If you want dark, brooding textural pads then go for Dark Star. If you want vast cascading ethereal reverb, then Afterneath it is

Can you hear in the amp when you turn it on and off like clicking noise or anything minus effect?

This is sick! I love the CV sequencing from ZOIA to the Afterneath drag function. Can you send sequence MIDI out from the zoia as well? I was thinking send CC messages to a Meris pedal to modulate the filter on Enzo or the pitch on Hedra. That would be amazing
@thepedalzone4 жыл бұрын
Cheers 🙏 Happy you enjoyed the bits with Zoia. It’s such a powerful pedal. And yes, you can do the same via MIDI that I did with CV here. Check out my full Zoia demo. It shows it in action as a MIDI controller together with a Meris Ottobit 😊

Hi Stefan ! I bought this pedal and just got the Korg SQ-1 after watching your video 🥇 Total noob question but , are you using a 1/4trs for the pedal into 1/8 inch ts for Korg ? Trying to figure out the right one to get . Thanks so much 😊
@thepedalzone4 жыл бұрын
I'm just using a 3.5mm mini-jack cable with a 1/4" converter plug on one end 😊 Hope that helps!
