Doing this video series was the best marketing the DW could _possible_ have done, in my opinion. Seeing the practical effects BEFORE watching the show is getting me _so much more hyped_ for watching it than posters would have. Or even a traditional trailer, honestly. I'm sure that's coming, but these behind the scenes diaries are just the BEST hype tool.

This legit makes me so excited about filmmaking… It made me want to go into film production 😅 it’s honestly beyond me how these big films would rather use green screen and cgi than actually shoot on location and use real props and special effects. Productions like this remind us of the magic of filmmaking :) I will definitely watch this- ideally on day one of its release!
@AlekseyMaksimovichPeshkov10 ай бұрын
Yeah so much better than A.I. Hopefully it doesn't take that away from us. I want to pursue filmmaking too (and to write the scripts and score, music, for my films, as well as draw the concept art. I'm not fond of CGI either.)
@JRRob3wn10 ай бұрын
When I was a kid, I fell in love with HW blockbusters like Star Wars and Indiana Jones, partially because of the amazing practical effects. You wondered how the hell they did that and watched behind the scenes making of footage in amazement. Models, matte paintings, actual locations will always look better than CGI if done right. To this day, films like Ben Hur stand the test of time because of the incredible care and attention to detail taken by thousands of craftsmen. I doubt most CGI laden films will be remembered in another 25 years.
@mikey77478 ай бұрын
And the movies that do overuse cgi, green screen, etc still blow massive budgets. It's not like they save that much money. Nothing beats practical. The new Dune has done a great job it too.

No, they should do "The Man who was Afraid" by Maksim Gorky: Russian/Soviet writer who was 6'4 (supposedly, according to the internet), had a deep voice and high cheekbones. I want to see Matt Walsh play Ignat as he fits the description of the character completely: he has dark hair, a deep voice and is six feet tall (in the book Ignat's exact height is never described but he is described as being a "giant". Six feet would have been very tall for a Russian back then and even now and that combined with broad shoulders...) 😅. I don't know who Brett should play, maybe Natalya, the second wife of Ignat who dies after giving birth to their son, Foma (not sure who should play him but it should be a real actor this time because he's the main character). Brett would also fit the description because Natalya as she is also described as tall (even though 5'8 was probably not what Maxim was thinking but whatever) even though whereas Natalya is described as being very quiet and contemplative, Brett is more peppy and bubbly in her personality. But hey, if Brett is a really good actress I'm sure she could pull it of.

@@rpgadventurer32 suppose 30M overall. + at least 3M in advertising and marketing. 33M. Indeed impressive. No doubt would cost 3x if it was done in studios all on USA. The abomination that is the wheel of time is over 100M+ per season. Willow was 120M+. Even the first season of GoT cost $100M ond that was over a decade ago now. Even if Got actually was impressive they made their seasons at 100M considering how impressive those productions still are. Apparently DW learned all they could from The Chosen first season production. Which is incredibly it was made at 1M per episode including A&M. The latest seasons now cost $30M+ which is why they had the genius idea of putting them in actual theaters too.

How is this different from what you normally see on streaming platforms?
@rpgadventurer3210 ай бұрын
Well, first of all it's more culturally authentic in terms of visual presentation than what Netflix and Amazon Prime have been doing lately. Beyond that, there is also a return to practical effects and filming in real locations. Another element that you won't find in current day productions of streaming platforms is the existence of faith based elements in the story. A significant part of this version of the story is how the people at that time period converted to Christianity and this is mixed with the fantastical/magical elements that are connected to the story of Merlin. This is not going to be for everyone, but it really depends on how they'll translate these elements to the screen. Imo, they should make it far more subtle than how it was in the book.
