"Wild Mountain Thyme" was our favorite song we learned while touring Ireland. It has Scottish origins and there are many different versions out there, but we consulted Pat Kelleher, a friend we met on our first tour, and had him send us his arrangement. Hope you all enjoy it!

►LYRICS - Wild Mountain Thyme
O, the summertime is comin'
And the trees are sweetly bloomin'
And the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the bloomin' heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the bloomin' heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
I will build my love a bower
Near yon pure crystal fountain
And on it I will place
All the flowers of the mountain
Will you go, lassie, go?
And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the bloomin' heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
If my true love, she were gone*
I would surely find another
Where the wild mountain thyme
Grows around the bloomin' heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
And we'll all go together
To pluck wild mountain thyme
All around the bloomin' heather
Will you go, lassie, go?
Will you go, lassie, go?
Will you go, lassie, will you go?
If you are not familiar with the Scottish landscape:
Thyme - a herb
Heather - a plant that carpets the ground / ct1yk3vqsba
Lassie - a young woman
Bower - a leafy shelter like the one behind Emmett at 1:46
* Fun fact: Traditional Irish musician Francis McPeake came across this folk song on his travels of Scotland, and he rewrote and brought it to Ireland in the 1950s. He dedicated the song to his wife, and his son later added an extra verse to celebrate his father's second marriage.

Well, isn't that just the sweetest song. And so delicately performed. Katie's traditional intro, Matt's calming voice, the spot on harmonies by Ellen and Julz, Emmett's magical dobro, Karen's tasteful bass playing, the attention given to the colors, the gorgeous backdrop and the great audio. In other words, another trademark Petersens video. If it had a blue sky and a funny outro it would have been totally perfect😉, but stunning job guys.

Well, we're all still singing this song here in Scotland, in the pubs and clubs and schools and everybody in the audience has known the words from childhood and sings along in the chorus. This is a sweet version, nice and gentle, as it was meant to be sung. It's nicely enhanced by Emmet's, as always, melancholy and melodic playing.

Listened again...and it's the arrangement as well as Matt's fine voice. The song builds slowly, the fiddle laying the foundation, the guitar raising the walls, that voice filling the rooms, the banjo the light sparkling through the windowa...andvthat harmony capping it all off!

What I feel: peace and serenity. Today no wind, no background noise, the sound is perfect. Is it real? In front of a dreamy landscape, Katie, always talented, sets the tone under the warm look of Ellen (by the way, as usual, each member of the group turns to the soloist with a knowing and benevolent smile). And then the presentation is judicious: Matt, harmoniously accompanied, has really the voice for this song; Katie and Emmet frame perfectly our vocal trio and finally mother Karen, always in the background, who brings with her touch the indispensable tempo necessary to the whole. One word for this remarkable adaptation: thank you

I'm of Irish descent on my Dad's side, and I have always been drawn to this song. Finally, I want to add that at the beginning, Ellen's expressions looking at Katie while playing the violin says it all - Katie plays with unbelievable talent and ability, but also with all her heart - which is what sets Katie above 99% of musicians and singers out there...

Inexpressibly beautiful. Another all round humdinger from all the Petersens and Emmet. Matt's voice really grows on me the more I hear it, so relaxing. Greetings from Ireland, where dappled Sun and clouds are lighting up the mountains as I write -- it's a bit early in the year for purple heather but you're making me want to get out on the Dublin foothills right now.

This is one of the most beautiful things! Reminds me so much of some Irish ballads I heard in my lifetime. Makes me think of my mother. I bet she would absolutely adore this performance. Thank you for sharing. And just as an aside, can I tell you just how refreshing it is to see beautiful young people, dressed naturally, singing their voices as they were made, and singing beautiful songs.

Sgoinneil! (That's Scottish Gaelic for brilliant). I have loved this song for many many years. I was so delighted to hear your version of this beautiful tune. You are such an amazing famil! Beautiful would be a good word to describe you. You are beautiful not only in looks, but in the talent and music you share with us all, and in your obvious love one for another. May the journey ahead bring you all much happiness and success!

Well I'll be doggoned if that ain't the prettiest thing I've ever seen/heard from y'all! I loved the way this song shone a spotlight on Katie's lyrical fiddle playing for the intro, then moved to Matt for the rest of the song. And the background, my goodness it's perfect. Even got lucky with the cloudy lighting!

Great performance, as always. I enjoy hearing you play Celtic music and this one is a fine example. Its so-called mother song, The Braes of Balquhidder, is equally beautiful and although there are some musical similarities they each stand up on their own in my opinion.

@@dwaynesbadchemicals the melody is based on a scottish folk song, but it's not quite the same. The lyrics, the arrangement and the custumized melody are irish. Though i have to admit that's all debated. But i think almost everyone outside the british isles considers it irish.

Don't you mean from traditional music to bluegrass? Incidentally it's Scottish not Irish. Taken from the poet Robert Tannahill's poem "The Braes Of Balquhidder". He's very well regarded here in Paisley where his house still stands about 5 minutes from my house.

@@mauricioayulo2046 this is an adaptation of a scottish sang braes o balquither written by robert tannihill. mcpeake was in scotland when he heard tannahills sang and went back to belfast and adapted it. there are many scots sangs that have been taken to ireland and adapted.
