I Want It That Way - The Petersens (LIVE)

One of the first times I heard Emmett perform was in a small house concert with maybe 15 people in attendance. He sang "I Want It That Way" and we were blown away with his awesome arrangement and style. We can't sing this man's praises enough and are so thankful he's part of the band (and basically family).

Emmett has something money can't buy. Like all the really big stars he has a unique voice and knows how to impress himself on a song. In other words to own it. Beautiful but generic voices aren't necessarily star power. You would never confuse Elvis, Dylan, Merle Haggard, George Jones for example with anyone else. They are also people who don't just cover a song but can own it. Willy and Merrell took Pancho and Lefty from Emmy Lou's record and owned it in one take. Emmett Franz can do that. @MP 81,16,18 CATS I'm sure it was properly licensed since it was released by major record companies so he was well compensated. Merle Haggard's story is that they were one song short for the album he was doing with Willie. He had knocked off for the night and went to sleep/passed out in his RV there at Willie's place. I believe it was the recording engineer who brought Emmylou's record to Willie and played him the song which he had never heard but decided on the spot to record it. So he went out and woke Merle up and he staggered in and they recorded it. By the time he woke up the next day the finished album had already been sent to NY. So in their case no they don't ask first. It's all in a somewhere in You-Tube interview Merle gave. Amazing the things you come across here. I believe Emmy Lou was an actual friend of Towns and they may have talked about it.
