The moment I saw that design I knew I had to get the Win 4, and I'm glad that the previews for it are good. I'm curious what kind of power and performance use there is after the optimisation. The 15W vs. 25W figures are interesting, but if I play with optimisations, they're not that relevant. In theory it would also have been nice to see intermediate TDPs like 18W, but I figure that again, optimised settings performance is what matters.

What's the point of a 1080p screen on a gaming-focused handheld device that will have to rely on battery for handheld usage? Then it doesn't run quite some modern games at 1080p well to justify the higher battery to drive more pixels compared to a 720p or a 900p screen. Feels like those other devices are going for higher resolutions screens for bragging rights alone at the expense of battery life, you said the Win 4 has a larger capacity battery compared to the Deck, but from your assessment on battery life it seems it is not enough to offset the 6800U that works best at higher wattage compared to the Deck's APU plus the display also being a bigger drain on the battery than the Deck's 800p

First: I am in love with the very convenient lanyard/wrist strap attachment point. I know they're not fashionable, but I don't want to drop my (Very Expensive!!) tech because I'm jostled on the train or whatever. This is the first handheld PC that I really want despite being super happy with my base model Steam Deck. I still maintain that they're not genuinely comparable devices - the price points alone put them in two completely different categories, but this is one I'd want to save up for. Honestly I'd probably get the 32 GB, 1 TB model - RAM looks like it's soldered on and I definitely don't have the skills to mess with that, so getting the cheapest 32 GB model would be the most future proofed option (an absolute necessity since it's a Very Expensive device for me, it's not the kind of money I generally have to spend and certainly won't be able to spend every couple of years to upgrade to a new device). But yeah, man, I am TEMPTED. It's so expensive though, and even more so because I'll have to pay 25% VAT for the non-EU import (the custom's office online calculator claims there's no import duties, at least, but I'd have to confirm that with someone before trusting it tbh)
@lumeronswift Жыл бұрын
I wish price point put them in different categories in Australia - the minimum spec Deck costs only 5-15% less than the minimum spec GPD Win 4 here (depending on vendor, the 64GB model goes for between $850 and $1150 (AUD))... for an EMMC device... I assume that just means even our tech companies are scalping us. Luckily, IndieGoGo doesnt have such a price hike. I'd love to have one of the Valve devices, but not at an artificially $400 (AUD) higher price than it's worth.
@FaerieDust Жыл бұрын
@@lumeronswift @Lumeron Swift the Deck isn't officially sold in Australia yet - if you're buying it there, you're buying from a reseller/scalper who's inflating the price to take advantage of people who want a Deck and don't want to wait for the official launch. It'll definitely be significantly cheaper to buy it from Valve - the Asia prices are just a smidge higher than the European price, despite going through Komodo as a "middle man", so I'm pretty sure the price will remain more or less the same when it launches in Australia. So yeah, at those inflated prices I'd definitely discourage people from buying a Deck - you're absolutely being ripped off, and there's a lot of competition in or just slightly above that price that will be a better deal. (Also: idk how Valve handles warranty and repair for "unofficially" sold Decks, that could be a real issue) For me, I'd love a GPD Win 4 but it's way out of my budget even before adding VAT. If I had that kind of cash though, I wouldn't spend it on a scalper Deck. Either get something that's actually sold for that much money, or wait. No need to pay that difference to a scalper imo 🤷♀️

I got wm2 so I wasn't really interested in a win 4, but now that phawx puts it like this... i kind of want one now

This thing looks absolutely amazing. I would buy it if it wasn't so pricy and I wasn't currently jobless lol

Still going with AYA Neo 2 though this did shake my resolve. just not messing with GPD anymore. Sent my Win Max back for a dead SD card slot, had to replace the thumb sticks TWICE before getting Vita sticks, screen and trackpad issues, and that upgraded MB fiasco. I know that was then and this is now but I just can't do it.

I really wish they had come out with these review units earlier. It maybe could have given the Ayaneo 2 some competition for my wallet.

@@watchmejumpstart69 I have the GPD WIN 2, and one of the reasons I opted for the Ayaneo 2 was because people said they have pretty good customer service. I definitely get the quality control concerns here. These videos always tempt me though 😅

@@watchmejumpstart69 it sucks about the GPD stuff. I really want to like them. That being said, it makes me more confident in my switch to Aya. This will be my first product from them and I'm pretty pumped 😁!

Aya neo 2 it's fantastic. But to expensive for me. I prefer upgrade my win 3 for win 4. And after save money for aya neo " phoenix point " 3 😍

Hey, could you try disabling half the CPU cores? That should give some more power headroom for the iGPU.

I was hyped for this but with the introduction of devices coming to market with the 7840U, I am willing to hold out and see if GPD jumps onto this new apu in the same form factor as the Win 4.

Please mention minimum brightness in a follow up video. So far only the steam deck seems to be playable at night.

how did you set 45 w tdp? Ive tried to on my win max 2 and it simply jumps back down to 28w like in the BIOS,

Did you compare turbo boost on and off? I have the 2022 ASUS G14 and have noticed in some games you lose basically no performance but drop temps noticeably. Other games you do lose performance, its obviously dependent on the game. I'm not sure if that is as viable with the 6800U but I would think that dropping temps would be very useful on such a small device.

Can you play the Sims 4 on this like the steam deck?

Did you see on the gpd win max 2 discord someone that run fps benchmark at 800p low resolution for 16gb and 32gb model and get a 10 fps difference? Thanks

Apologies for the silly question but how does one even get games on this thing in the first place? Interested in getting it for my upcoming birthday and have no idea how to even put games on it - is it via the Microsoft Store? A Google search hasn’t helped me.

How do you get 6800u to 45w tdp and can other 6800u handhelds achieve this?
@chamoo232 Жыл бұрын
The GPD 4 is the only one with a 45wh battery. The Steam Deck in comparison has a 40wh battery.
