Waste of time on one picture) so many resources. In my opinion original photo requires some shadow and highlights correction

It's definitely a long time to spend on one photo; I do the same sometimes. I do agree that a quick shadows and highights adjustment would have looked great. Depends on what you're going for. Also, a lot of these steps could be made into actions; almost like how you might make presets for Lightroom. Once you develop a style and workflow, this edit wouldn't take nearly as long as it took to demonstrate it.
