I love it, even though it's at your expense, this is a very informative video. I love seeing the issues because it proves we all have our headaches with this hobby! I can't wait to see the conclusion on this bowl, the idea is great even if the execution had flaws. I think if not for the stabilizing issues it would have been a fantastic turning! hopefully, it will work out in the end and maybe after getting new Cactus Juice and fixing the big vac chamber, you can try it again! I have a LOT of punky black cherry that I want to do this with and I'm gaining from this video valuable information. keep up the good work and god bless you!

I always admire your perseverance. When a project goes sideways on you, you just keep trying to work through it. I tend to do that too but, after about the 5th time getting covered in blue dye, I definitely would’ve saying “Ok.. yeah I’m done.”😅 Is Cactus Juice the usual way to dye wood or was this an experiment to stabilize the wood and dye it at the same time? Just curious, I’ve never dyed or stabilized wood before. I really hope it turns out exactly how you want it to, you certainly deserve it to! I’ll be rooting for you this next week.😊

Have you considered using the pressure pot instead of the vacuum pot when using cactus juice? Air as a fluid is compressible but liquids are not. As the air bubbles are compressed they'll leave lower pressure areas for the liquid to be forced into.

Just a suggestion… How about cutting a V shape In the bowl almost like a window and allowing it to dry in the sun? When it’s finally dry you can use that window to feature the many colors of the wood. I’m not a woodworker, I’m just an old lady that loves to watch woodworking! See you next week.

I get that same speckling on my face sheild, but mine's from CA glue I wasn't patient enough to let dry long enough. There HAS to be a way to clean off the shields. I'm going to try the denatured alcohol in another 45 minutes when I head into the shop. And, if you had my shop (uneated with a super cool, amazingly conditioned fully black, ultra dark roof, just leaving a fan on it with the doors closed in the summer will give you more heat than any hair dryer ever could. That's a bummer hen old resin doesn't set. I had that experience with a cheap resin. Brand new it worked, used the last of it at about a year old, didn't cure, ever. You might try just cranking up the speed and letting centrifugal force move all the wet stuff out. There's only so much stuff in there, right?. Let it spin fast enough, long enough, it will evacuate the liquid.

Why don't you use your pressure pot as a vacuum chamber? Sure you would not be able to see in to it but if you placed the piece in a bucket to catch any boil over you should be fine. Use a slow cure resin, draw a deep vacuum for a few hours then pressurize to 50 psi to force the resin deep into the wood.

I don't think this has anything to do with the vacuum chamber. I might soak it again in your new juice and put it back on the easy bake. The cracks are because it is wet and shrinks when parts get dry. Alternatively, soak it in alcohol. That might set it.

@The Pohl Barn Productions Sorry I didn't watch for your answer. I still think the same cause. But the wood was so porus that it wasn't cracking. Assuming your large vac chamber lid can't be fixed, have you though of making a new one with a 1 or 1.5 inch thick sheet of acrylic and the fittings off the original lid (assuming they're not the broken bits)... Acrylic shouldn't be that expensive, though I believe it will eventually degrade with exposure to epoxy resin (or was it Cactus Juice that eats it?, I can't remember which) I remember another You Tuber had an acrylic vac chamber lid and it got weakened by whatever they used in their projects (Cactus Juice and/or Epoxy Resin) and started to crack like crazy, though their lid was a half inch thick or less... If you're willing to fork out the cash, Lexan would allow you to use a MUCH thinner lid without sacrificing strength and I think it shouldn't be damaged by Cactus Juice or Epoxy Resin so it should last longer...the thicker you make the lid, the longer it should last of course...

@@PohlBarnProductions You may want to look into it...a large vac pot would make doing a project with air-trapping fillers (pine cones, ribbons, metal shavings etc.) a lot easier to make sure have few/no bubbles... Thick Acrylic isn't all that expensive compared to Plexiglass and Lexan and if you leave the protective plastic film on the side facing the pot, it might even keep the Cactus Juice from eating it...or at least slow it down anyway... 😄😁😆😅😂🤣
