Now I understand why Shawn's father wanted to treat Crawford as "the big bad wolf" when they were preparing for their fight and why he threw in the towel during their fight. Crawford is a sophisticated killer.

I don’t think people are talking enough about this point. I think this was one of the big differences in the fight. He normally throws the jab as a range finder and to set up combinations. However, this fight he was throwing the jab to do damage. I don’t think that was something the Spence camp was prepared for.

Reminds me of Bruce Lee's teaching: keep your dominant hand closer to the opponent (this means it should be your jab hand). Shorter travel and therefore it reaches the opponent faster. A lot of people didn't get it. Now when Crawford shifts to southpaw his dominant hand (because he's naturally right handed) becomes his jab hand. So every jab is also a power punch.
@MattyDemello
@MattyDemello Жыл бұрын
Yup you're right. The other only person who understood that Bruce Lee saying was Lennox Lewis. He said that before "if you put your lead hand forward more the distance can be cut by a lot before it lands on your opponent" I'm a big fan of Bruce Lee and read his self defense book's and recognized back in the 90s when Lennox said that I put 2 and 2 together and was shocked a boxer knew that technique. Bud does it too. The hardest jab to land is a "from the hip jab" like Floyd would land. That jabs hard to land because it takes a little longer to reach your opponent.

At 6:04 brother was referring to Bud catching the left cross and then throwing his uppercut. Even i saw it that way on the first time. But on the second time, Bud actually throw the uppercut even before Spence landed the looping left hand. Spence's looping left hand landed after Bud's uppercut and he was already falling towards the canvas. Damn that was not just timing, it was speed, power, precision all in one punch.
@baroannicolas8624
@baroannicolas8624 Жыл бұрын
all of that is what makes timing timing.... lol u said a whole lot of nothing, timing is about speed; power, precision, AND reaction time also, so u basically said it was not timing, it was timing. When u throw a punch u don't throw it when u think about it, u think about it before, that's why boxers have a pattern of muscle movements following a certain rhythm in order to manipulate all of it and make it into timing and shoot at the right time even in defense the positioning is not all there is a timing room, to match the opponent power speed and impact (wich imply precision). The Bud machine was level above the errol machine in that regard. Once his head was read it was over tho

The punch he was talking about was the counter right hook that started the combination that ended the fight. The one that snapped Spences head to the side like a Pez dispenser. Strange I haven't seen a single expert comment on Bud's counter punch out of the corner with 0:30 in the 1st round. Watch carefully, then listen carefully to Crawfords post presser...that is the moment he solved Spence. That is when he knew it was gonna be a long night for Errol. He didn't game plan to 'start fast', it just didn't take long for him to solve the puzzle and then it was time to put it all together. Sometimes it takes Bud 3,4,6 rounds to solve. Spence took less than 1. This thing was over THAT early.

There are (2) fighters in today's game who are expert at controlling distance and spacing; Dmitry Bivol and Terence Crawford. Bud controlled the fight by constantly being in position to land his shots and not face much danger in return. He had Spence off-balance much of the night. All the knockdowns happened because Crawford maneuvered himself into position with Spence out of position and hit him with a hard shot when he wasn't in a good place to defend it, absorb it or roll with it.

@jwedgest67: Not easy to do, although he was dominated, Spence is an excellent fighter. However, it takes an elite fighter to capitalize on a excellent fighter's mistakes. Roy Jones is considered one of the best fighters ever. However, he had some of the worst habits any fighter can have, yet no one was able to capitalize on them until he started to decline.

Yeah, but he can take as much as he dishes out. Some of the most vicious fighters couldn't take an ass whoopin like that. I saw Chad Dawson literally quit when Andre Ward put a beating on him.

The punch exchanges throughout this fight from Crawford were impressive. But his tie up & clinch game was even more impressive. Controlling Spence arm/hand movement, controlling Spence head to keep hime fatigued. At one point when the ref goes to break them up, Crawford notices the ref coming, gives Spence a shoulder to the chest so he can break it up himself. Spence couldn't catch break at all in there. Crawford straight savage

Good breakdown by Shawn and the panel. The difference between TC and those who claimed the see something (about Spence) is TC could do something about what he saw, the others couldn't.

It was Danny Garcia he did a post fight interview with one of the KZbinrs and he said” i want Errol next ; I see something “. I did saw something too when Spence fought porter and that is why I thought Danny could capitalize on it. However Errol steam rolled Danny . Danny couldn’t find an opening and wouldn’t let his hands go . That was the worst pick I’ve had ever.

Wilder KO'd Fury though. A different referee would have counted Fury out or called it a walk-off KO. Huge difference to what happened to Spence. If Fury vs Wilder 2 was the first fight, then I doubt there would have been rematches, unless Fury just wanted to make easy bank smashing a lesser opp.

I never agreed that it was a 50-50 fight. I always saw Crawford dominating Spence. DOMINATING. Anyone who said 50-50 fight either couldn't accurately judge the skill of both fighters or was engaging in lazy thinking. Or denial. Sean Zittel said a while ago that Spence was too basic to beat Crawford. And remember that Crawford carried Porter and only put an end to their fight when he realized the unofficial scorecards had Shawn ahead.
