We met him back when we were young teens at the John C. Campbell Folk School. He had a band with another great musician named John Devine and they took Katie and I under their wing and taught us a lot. Katie and I played at a wedding last week. While we were standing at the top of the altar, I look over and low and behold it was Steve and his beautiful wife DeLaura. We were able to grab him the next day before he left and play some tunes. We hope you guys enjoy it!

Never heard of this one and I've been around fiddlers for decades. I play mandolin, so this is a sweet, must learn one for me. Another in the key of G. I like these great tunes and just too many to learn in such a short time above ground. There many not be such great tunes like this in Heaven, so that's why we play 'em here.

@@thepressleygirls I've got a version in a book. Then I heard Norman Blake's take. It's a bit different and I think the best, so spent a relaxing after noon (9/21) trying to work up his version. Got the A part pretty well. Now on to the B half. I'm glad it's in G -- lots of possibilities in that scale, but need to slow it down and listen and get the timing just right. Hiyah, I'm Irish and can easily hear the influence of Irish and Scottish traditional music in Appalachian music. I was wondering if wood instruments are typically used in Appalachiaan music. I play the tin whistle low whistle and the Irish flute, a wooden wind instrument, all of which are an integral part of Irish traditional music.
