One thing i do love about the Anarch that you just don't actually see, they aren't bound to the Baron format. Maybe now that V5 have Anarchs free of being just a side faction of the Cam, we'll see writers actually exploring Anarch's potential in source books. For example a "Atlanta by Night" where the Anarch have taken over following the Sabbat leaving and have model themselves after them.

I absolutely agree. The Anarch sourcebook for V5 shows a whole range of different Anarchs and how they handle undeath.

Did you ever get into Vampire: the Requiem? They have a faction called the "Carthian Movement" which very much resembles the Anarchs of Masquerade. The Carthians specialize in breaking blood bonds and blood pacts, freeing kindred who have been made thralls. Even in Masquerade, I have the Brujah call the Anarchs the "Carthian Movement" to harken back to glorious Carthage!

I never played much of Requiem I'm afraid. At the time it first came out, I was upset that WW had decided to end the oWoD when I was finally able to start buying books regularly. I have the 1st edition of Requiem but it's been *ages* since I read it.

IMO, VtR tried to reproduce the Cam vs Anarch conflict with the Invictus vs Carthians, but also included the more spiritual side with the Lancea Sanctum, the Circle of the Crone, and the Ordo Dracul. Having played both, I like the covenants of VtR more than the Sects of VtM, cuz it covers both spiritual and political angles (as well as kind of a mix with the Ordo) instead of limiting it to Cam, Anarchs, and Sabbat. Just my 2 cents, though. I can't fault VtM fans for their years of dedication and attachment to the metaplots and lore. I like VtR a great deal because there feels like much more room to play with bloodlines (and even come up with your own!) so you aren't shoehorned into one of 13 clans or caitiff, but VtM is where it all started, and I love it, as well.

It's sort of in a weird Twilight state as my main source for that information comes from Beckett's Jyhad Diary which was written by Onyx Path to sort of bridge V20 and V5, but it's unknown what plot threads carry over into V5. But since many, MANY elements of Bloodlines were in the LA By Night actual play, I'm going to assume that the Fledgling was there in some regards.

*So. You guys came to ask my opinion on the anarchs. Well...its...complicated. ive been around for a while,and after visiting worlds beyond our own,you learn to take unique perspectives. Are the anarchs good kindred? Not really. Sure freedom is inheritly good,but order and chaos are nuanced and vague. To much order leads to tyrany,and too much freedom leads to chaos. But i also think compared to the cammarilla and sabbat there practically the lesser of 3 evils compared to the chaos of politics thats the ivory tower and dont get me started on the sabbat. You want to join the anarchs,get used to the fact that hypocrisy is gonna be rampant eventually. Just because the anarchs might be nicer doesnt mean there not monsters in some form. Hell that group of poor bastards in la are a good example,a group of people who tried to do some kind of right,only for it to blow up in there faces in the darkest form. But well...i wont lie aside the hypocrisy there are a few good blokes among them,nines,jack,hell even that guy who put lacroix on his ass, definitely some people worth having your back when things go to hell. If you want to be one of us,feel free,but word of advice from your friendly Ravnos here? Take care in that becoming one of the rebels you dont become a monster yourself. All the games I've played in have been Camarilla. I think I'd make a terrible Sabbat member but I could imagine playing an Anarch. In the current San Francisco game I'm playing it is definitely a Camarilla city & not an Anarch Free State.

Yeah Vannevar Thomas kept the Anarchs at bay during the Revolt of the 40s, but he's struggling with the Wan Kuei now and if you follow the LA By Night Actual Play, he's decided to try to take Los Angeles instead.

I'm doing the initial planning and writing for a San Fran game at the moment. The city proper is Camarilla while East Bay is Anarch. Obviously, there's plenty of tension and since there's limited ways between the two (the BART tunnels, the bay bridge, maybe ferries or boat) it's resulted in kind of a cold war of both sides staring each other down from the other side of the water. Meanwhile, there's other factions trying to drive the two into a destructive war for their own ends. I hope my group enjoy the ensuing drama!
