On 25th January MLA Raju Pal was driving his Toyota, along with a woman in the car. 2 Scorpios were tailing him for sometime. At a suitable place both Scorpios cornered him, almost dozen + sharp shooters got down and fired hundreds, Yes hundreds of rounds with 9 MMs & AK47s for minutes. 19 bullets pierced Raju Pal's body and shooters drive away. Atiq was massively angry, after Ashraf lost his Election to Raju Pal. That's not the worse part. What happened after shooting is the blood curdling stuff. Raju Pal's supporters put his dead body in a tempo and drive towards hospital. Now this news reaches Atiq. He sends his shooters back. 15 Shooters come back, and then shoot Raju Pal's dead Body repeatedly, even after realising he was dead. This execution goes on, not for few meters, but for 5 freaking kilometres. Atiq personally told shooters to make a sieve of Raju Pal's dead body, for he dared to contest elections against "him." So ignore the faux outrage now This was the terror reign that ended today. He had killed almost hundreds of people. Body count for both brothers and his gang members runs into 100s. Imran Pratapgarhi called him messiah of Muslims. He is the sitting Rajya Sabha member of parliament from Maharashtra. So, sit down if you're outraged. Thank Karma, if you believe in justice.

Born and brought up in eastern UP, I can very well relate the the underlined crime environment. These are the big banyan trees, but even in the colleges where I was studying, there would be the roots of this big trees in form of student unions and stuff like this. Some was associated with someone and they ultimately were governed by the masters. You could not speak against any of them. The situation was very difficult for women as these "sadak chap" some of them actually linked some would only use their names to scare people. The overall environment was such deadly, I can't describe. But now the situations have changed in a very big way. Since the big trees are falling, these smaller goons are all gone. Some of them even surrendered to police, saying that don't kill me, but put in jail. While media can only talk about the very big cases, there are huge number of cases of extortion which were happening on the ground. One major demerit was since eastern UP was a border, they would slip into Bihar and became invisible for some time and again resurface.

But what I hear from my friends, that most of the people do support Yogi. He has a very large support base from women especially college girls, as the goons have dissappeard completely. He is also supported by a large base of marginalized people from all religions, unlike most media shows. It is all visible in the elections. In fact the situation is very similar to Mumbai, where in 90s there was an encounter drive wiping all criminals. The sheer number of encounters are quite evident.

I am from Eastern UP and I spent my whole childhood there from 2000-2012 I remember all business men small or medium were scared of planning business expansion and were more focused on sending their kids to Mumbai Delhi or abroad and finally settling there because of Mafias controlling politicians and the system. Now I can see a drastic change in the middle class business community of purvanchal they are thinking of expanding more like how the Gujarat business community grew from 2003 onwards. I recently met my friend who owned a small shoe trading shop in Varanasi now he is opening franchises in smaller cities like bhadoi, balia etc without fear of getting extortion or death threats. So yes leaving politics aside the change is real and its making an impact. Big industrial houses as well small industries upto the turnover of 5 cr are aggressively investing and trying hard to enter in exports from this region as purvanchal had negligible export contribution in the total GDP. Hopefully the business community of this region achieves this long desired goal.

The feud between Mukhtar Ansari and Ajai Rai reminds me of Hindi movie -Sangharsh' with Dilip Kumar,Vyjantimala and Balraj Sahni,in which the story of family feuds contued for generations. 2). It is mainly Mulayam Sungh Yadav and to a great extent Lalu Prasad Yadav- the Yadav Ratnas are responsible for riminalizing the politics.While Mulayam was very open in his encouragement,Lalu Yadav was more discreet in encouraging the mafia. Ironically ally,they are the products of a movement, which was started with high ideals by Jayaprakash Ji. The contribution of these two Yadavs in criminalizing Indian politics is immense,though they are not alone in this. In criminalizing Indian politics,the khichri parties,which formed Government after 1977 ,largely provincial and family -led are responsible. But the most tragic side of mukhtar is his credentials. Even though he has two illustrious grandfathers ,he chose to become a criminal as a career. Jayaprakash Narayan Ji, Abbas the senior and Honourable Brigadier Osman must be restless wherever they are. 3). We have a lesson from history. It is not clear to me but it is noticed that all movements start with laudable objectives and high ideals, but sooner or later the movement passes into the hands of baser elements. 4).TheRussian Revolution started by Lenin to translate the ideals of egalitarianism of Karl Marx became degraded into totalitarianism and death of millions by Stalin. Mahatma Gandhi's idealism was also watered down though in a more subtle way.
