I'm listening from Canada and I don't understand the language. What was said about places of Worship? Anyone? We have had over 100 Churches burned, Synagogues vandalized and now Islam who has 1000s of Mosques, is taking over our streets in prayer.

The audience Q was whether the judgment on the Places of Worship Act will be the defining legacy of the new CJI, which has only 1 one-year term (Context: An Indian CJI can serve only up to the age of 65. The current Chief Justice, Mr Khanna is already 64. He got promotion late). The other Q was whether the government was planning to remove the Places of Worship Act (Context: The Places of Worship Act states that the status of a mosque or a temple would be considered from 1947. This Act was passed after the demolition of Babri Masjid, which was originally built by demolishing the Ram Temple. I'll digress a bit here to inform you that a Ram Temple now stands at the site. It was constructed after favorable judgment from a legal battle initiated in 1885. Do not let anyone fool you. It is legally established that a temple stood at Ayoydhya. The place is sacred to Hindus as it is considered the birthplace of a revered deity, Lord Ram. In its judgment, the court did not comment on who demolished the temple. It is not hard to fill this void with a little bit of common sense, given the fact that 800 AD to 1400 AD was a tough period for India as it witnessed a brutal Islamic invasion. Coming back to the main issue, the Act had many problems. There were already multiple legal battles about several disputed "places of worship" even before this act. The current Govt is led by the BJP. It's a Hindu nationalist party). The response from the speaker was basically vague. He only responded to the first Q and stated that legal matters take time and he'll have to wait and see how things work out. (My opinion: The debate on the act ignited after the former CJI's oral observation wherein he said archaeological surveys unearthing the history of a place "may not necessarily fall foul" of the Places of Worship Act. Now, you need to understand three things - 1)It is not possible to reclaim everything that was lost to history. Even Israel is not constructing the Temple of Solomon at Al Aqsa. 2) However, should that stop us from deciphering the history of a particular place? In a just world, it should not, but the elements involved here are too volatile to control. India is a deeply religious country. Personally, I am happy with the Ram Temple, and I do not support other Hindu claims. However, there are certain illegal possession of Temples by you-know-who which must be returned back to us. These were not demolished structures. They were simply taken by just claiming and entering like idiots. One of those is the Sambhal Temple dispute, which triggered this discussion. PS: The commentator deliberately avoided a straight answer. (Hint: Avoid Samuel Paty fate)
