Tommy is one of the nicest boss one can ask for in GTA. He lets Lance get away for screwing up a lot and isn’t harsh when Lance complains or talks back. Tommy is like more of a coach to him. Lance was lucky to have had someone like Vic and Tommy yet he squandered it all.

Or he introduced Seydelbaum to the organization propably without to do any research about this guy what causes Tony a lot of legal problems. And as Tony went to New York to do a job for sosa he left Manny in charge of the organization but instead of doing his job he disappeared without telling anybody where he was to screw around with Tony's sister. 34:50 Sonny was angry at Tommy for running errands for his relative Giorgio and not looking for the money. Giorgio got Ken to do that behind Sonny's back which angered Sonny hence the phone call. Also, Giorgio Forelli is the dark haired guy at Marco's Bistro in the first cutscene (see 24:20) who gives Ken's name to Sonny (at 24:38) (as he is Ken's client) and doesnt appear at the end in Keep Your Friends Close (unlike the blond guy who does appear with Sonny, at 38:57) because he is indebted to Tommy and Ken for helping him avoid prison. Giorgio and Sonny fell out because of Jury Fury. All evidence supports this.
@ricardotolbert17972 жыл бұрын
Yeah I figured that since Giorgio was gone at the end. Question did Sonny Forelli and Ricardo Diaz set Tommy up? Or was it just Sonny and Diaz was collateral?
@mu11erandr312 жыл бұрын
@@ricardotolbert1797 Sonny set Tommy up in 1971 that led to Tommy doing 15 years in prison. Tommy was never 100% sure of this though. So by the events of Vice City, Sonny just wanted to get Tommy out of the way and sent him to Vice City to be useful. Diaz set the drug deal up between Tommy/Harry/Lee and Lance/Victor. Remember, Forelli's contact in VC was Ken. Ken set up that deal with Colonel Cortez, whos right hand man Gonzalez would give info all his drug deals to Diaz (see Farewell to Arms cutscene from Vice City Stories). Diaz interfered on it by sending hitmen to the deal, including Leo Teal, the chef with the cellphone in Back Alley Brawl. Cortez has you kill Gonzalez in Treacherous Swine as he found out Gonzalez has a loose tongue. Diaz gets killed mainly because he kidnapped and tortured Lance, but by that point Tommy and Lance were certain it was Diaz who busted their deal and killed Victor, Harry and Lee so he was probably gonna get it anyway.

@@ricardotolbert1797 man, I'm sure they didn't put the coke there on Sonny's table for no reason, but the story makes no sense if Sonny in Liberty City ended up with the coke from the deal in Vice City, and so quickly too. It would mean the whole story in Vice City makes no sense. So Diaz and Sonny were worked together to set up Tommy? Sonny knows nothing about Vice City apart from Ken, and that his cousin Giorgio goes there now and again. Second, the 15 bullets in the back, is a reference to Tommy's 15 years in prison, so with this Sonny probably would have wanted to tell Lance: "Just like i betrayed Tommy for 15 years, you're gonna also get 15 bullets in your body." 3. Third, Lance's body gets chopped into pieces, well i think you already know that this is a reference to Toni Cipriani (also a mobster) butchering Casa's body, and selling it to his own shop, but here Sonny sells it to the Bitch'n Dog's factory, well it would have been funnier if he sold the pieces to Donald Love (who in GTA Liberty City Stories is a cannibal). 4. By the time of GTA SA they had advanced their engine tech to add instanced areas like interiors and they could add part of Portland in for the one mission where you go back to Liberty City. Manslaughter isn't exactly "killing someone but you didn't plan on doing it". If you kill your wife but it was because you had an argument that's considered second degree murder. A planned out murder is first degree. The main difference between the two typically is that second degree murder doesn't allow for the death penalty and you usually get life in prison. Manslaughter is more "you murdered someone but it was accidental." Like if you hit someone with your car and they die instantly that's considered manslaughter not murder. Murders are often pleaded down to manslaughter in court when you can't prove self defense but you also have evidence the person was fully willing to engage with the conflict and kill. Prosecutors will often also go for manslaughter instead of murder because the burden of proof for manslaughter is typically much lower. It usually results in a lesser sentence closer to 5 years in prison but people often get paroled out in 2-3 years.

Calogero to Sonny: “Is it better to be loved or feared?” Tony Soprano was based on Vincent “Vinny Ocean” Palermo of the Decavalcante Crime Family in New Jersey. Also when Ralph killed Tracy it’s still code of conduct to kill civilians, the same thing happened when the Bath Ave boys killed a civilian… Sonny being greedy and power hungry is also probably a reference to Nicodemo “Little Nicky” Scarfo of the Philly mob, he was the decline of the Philly Mob! He started whacking people out of envy and gluttony; he was even jealous of the Young Executioners Crew leader Salvie Testa because he was nicknamed “The Crowned Prince of the Philadelphia Mob” after Scarfo ordered Salvie killed and after he was killed the Philly Mob went downhill. It’s funny because Salvie Testa was a loyal Capo and hitman to the Philadelphia Crime Family, it jus goes to show that loyalty sometimes means nothing in Organized Crime.

This was a very good lore video. I think that what sets the line between Tommy and Sonny is that Tommy totally honors the Omerta, and that Tommy isn't as power hungry as Sonny, nor is he manipulative, he just strong arms people sometimes, but he doesn't lie or decieve. Tommy's problem was that he was short sighted, and eventually Earnest himself confirms that. Despite my misgivings on Tommy's character, such as his arrogance and power-dominating personality, he is a far better boss or friend than Sonny. I think that Lance was Tommy's friend, but eventually he lost his mind, and as a result of that became disillusioned with Tommy. Also I think the Forellis figured that Sonny's involvement in the Harwood massacre caused his death, and they probably knew of his part all along, especially his brothers, and very likely Marco, who was his underboss. But out of fear, or because of the fact that they are bound by blood and the Omerta, they never questioned him. Its like you said, if a boss has commited a questionable act, his men would chaiste him for it. and in Sonny's case, his vioalation of the Omerta and betraying Tommy once again by manpulating Lance as well, caused the Forellis' inaction and decline after his death - his legacy was totally tarnished because he broke the Omerta. Sonny is much more complex as an antagonist than initally precieved, but ya have to wonder whether Tommy felt a certain amount of guilt for their ruined friendship and his killing of Sonny.

I would go further and say Sonny and Diaz were business partners. Here is my take on the real reason why Diaz set that meeting Tommy had with Vic up. You see Sonny as you know wanted to get into the drug business and here knows Vice City is a hub for the drug trade. Tommy is sent down there for that purpose but what if Sonny was already doing business with a drug baron like Diaz in the first place. Vic Vance was basically a rival Drug Lord of Diaz just like the Mendez brothers. Who already had history against the Forellis when he interfered in their murder plot against Phil Collins. Sonny already tried to kill Tommy once why not again by taking two birds with one stone. Only Sonny must not have told Diaz what Tommy looks like to prioritize his death in the hit since the assassins killed everyone but him. Sonny perhaps just tipped Diaz off someone important was meeting Vic and Diaz paranoid took the bait. This means Sonny wanted Tommy to die that day but he didn’t so pretended the whole time that just wanted his money back. Think about it how odd Sonny takes so long coming down to get the money owed from Tommy. In my eyes he was hoping Tommy would get so desperate he would make mistakes and get himself killed by the number of people he ended up making enemies like Diaz. I notice Sonny only really makes a move to finally come down and confront Tommy about the money when Diaz dies. He even references him when Tommy takes over his mansion. At first I thought Sonny was pissed that Tommy made name for himself doing that but then I remember. Diaz took the money of course that Tommy was going to give to Vic in exchange for cocaine. What if Diaz never had the chance to meet and give Sonny’s money back? After all not long after the meet Tommy comes in contact with Diaz through his connections Cortez. His dealings with Tommy derailed his dealings with Sonny. With his death later Sonny had to do something to get his money back and kill Tommy once and for all. Queue the ending of Vice City. P.S. This means Lance is really an idiot since he betrayed Tommy to work for the guy who orchestrated his brother’s death and was working with the man who put out the hit.

While I agree with the second factor, I think a more probable thing of why tommy would work with sonny is because as just one man, he cannot possibly take out his empire. For this, he needs money and strength. Although the omerta exists, Sonny did technically break it too, tommy also would have had ample time to understand the entirety of the situation in prison. I think he would want to gain the money that sonny was giving him in the first cutscene. He would be better off with some time on his hands, to plan and strategize and get away from the situation. Which he gets in Vice city, the deal going down 'was an unfortunate set of circumstances' but it helped tommy to complete the picture. Hence, he could then stall Sonny enough to build reputation and power until he could 'piss him off before he killed him'
@yasirkusay11952 жыл бұрын
Something that should also be pointed out is that Sonny never met Tommy in person immediately after his release (the phone conversation proves this), further proving your points. Great video, looking forward to the next lore vids.

50:19 - you make a very good point that if Lance had spoken to Sonny in that way, he would probably be dead within days, or even the same evening. I've never liked Lance Vance and I think it was from that phone call with Tommy that he decided to join forces with Sonny, or maybe he had already done so for a short time, in my opinion it's either one or the other. By the way, when you played that part, I didn't like the fact that you didn't say anything about that phone call and how Lance dared to talk to Tommy - I don't know how Tommy kept his cool and continued to treat Lance with respect, when Lance didn’t do that at all. He even went so far as to tell him that he could call him out for certain behaviours when he was acting badly - a Mafia boss never did and would never do that! That shows how much Tommy, despite being a criminal, has values and moral principles! And I totally agree that we really don't know what Lance wanted from Sonny when he decided to go into business with him to betray Tommy : if Sonny had killed Tommy during their confrontation at the end of the game, he would have immediately done the same with Lance - it's very silly to think that Sonny would have teamed up with Lance, that he would have shared his business with Lance lol. Sonny just used him, in my opinion, to get to and confront Tommy. Lance is so stupid and obnoxious, I hate him so much. I look forward to your other lore videos, Pro! I hope you haven't forgotten the ones on GTA 4 and GTA 3! Keep up the good work!

I want to say one thing about Vice City. Many years ago, when I tried playing Vice City the first time, I thought that it was a kind of a generic mafia game. Since I barely knew any English back then, I had to assume what happened during the cutscenes. So, when I saw the first cutscenes about Tommy's drug deal getting failed by the unexpected ambush and then the phone call between Tommy and Sonny Forelli, I thought that Sonny organized both the drug deal AND the ambush (because I saw the drug packets on Sonny's table and I simply imagined the rest), as if Sonny, pretending to be surprised and angry about the ambush, wanted to extort Tommy more profit. I know what actually happens in the entire story nowadays, but back then I did not really know how the mafia works and the full context of each event in the game.

i always thought that Sonny was also responsible in part of the ambush in the begining of the game. i always had the idea that Ricardo Diaz and Sonny had planned the ambush (don't know for sure what could Diaz gain from that, maybe Diaz take the cash and Sonny the drugs? or maybe forming like a partnership so Diaz can make more deals outside of the city?). when Sonny says "if it was anybody else you would be dead already" and "i'm gonna let you handle it", kinda gave the idea that he knew that Tommy would survive the ambush (probably even as part of the plan), kill diaz, take over his bussiness and. That way Sonny doesn´t really "lose" the deal, make Tommy feel responsible for the deal so he can make contacts and gain power in the effort of getting to the "responsible", and finally having an excuse to kill Tommy and at the same time get the empire Tommy was controlling.

I just thought of something: maybe Sonny planned to have his other guys, Harry and Lee, kill Tommy after the deal and once they get the coke (like in Goodfellas when Henry was being set up for a proposed deal in Florida). I was initially speculating as to whether those guys were also being set up in this scenario or if they were just collateral damage. Then I thought of another possibility: His two loyal members would have the drugs and could operate directly under Sonny. The deal itself went bad because of Gonzalez. It was established in VCS that he was working with Diaz behind Cortez’ back, and was most likely the one who tipped Diaz off about this deal. Before Harry and Lee can get the drugs and kill Tommy, Diaz’ men, acting on the tip from Gonzalez, ambush the deal, kill Sonny’s goons, and inadvertently save Tommy, who exacts his revenge.

I believe Tommy had enough of Sonny and the Family before the events of the game. When Tommy went away for fifteen years, he must have heard from other mafia criminals in prison that the hit was was orchestrated by Sonny and he knew who was going to be there. Tommy would eventually learn that Sonny wanted him dead because he was jealous of Tommy's growing influence in the Family. Yet, Sonny couldn't directly kill Tommy because that will be against the Mafia code. Once Tommy became a powerful player in Vice City, who became more powerful than any Mafia organization or gang. Tommy and Sonny were never friends Sonny backstabbed Tommy back in 1971 to have him killed by 11 guys in Harwood but Tommy survived the amush and gets arrested by the cops, all because he was set up by Sonny. Sonny let Tommy rot in jail for 15 years. This shows how much why Sonny was never Tommy's friend. Lance on the other hand, he was never Tommy's true friend. Tommy valued much loyalty, trust and friendship to Lance, but Lance didn't valued to Tommy at all. The whole friendship was Tommy and Lance was only one-sided. Tommy met both Vic and Lance, alongside Ken, Harry and Lee. Tommy and Vic did the deal but it was an ambush set up by Sonny and Ricardo Diaz. Vic was killed, Harry and Lee were killed, Tommy, Ken and Lance survived the ambush. Now, you have to remember. The main reason why Vic got killed, because it's wasn't for Sonny or Diaz or Gonzalez. The real reason why Vic got killed is because of his brother Lance. However, Lance met Tommy at an alleyway, because Tommy killed one of the guys who ambushed the deal that Tommy and Vic were doing. Lance saved Tommy from the other goons, and Lance claimed that it was Diaz that ambush the deal. Later on, Diaz betrayed Lance and took him to the junkyard and Kent Paul warned Tommy that Lance is being held and tortured by Diaz's men, Tommy went all the way there, killing Diaz's men and rescues Lance, but Tommy gets Lance that his plan is blown to shit because Lance fucked it up, but Lance claimed to Tommy that Diaz killed Vic, and both Lance and Tommy plans to take down Diaz and take over his criminal empire. With Diaz dead, and his whole criminal empire taken over by Tommy, Tommy becomes the boss of the criminal empire, Lance becomes the underboss. With Lance as the underboss, Lance dosen't do his job, Tommy gets angry with him, why is Lance not doing his job, and also why is he fucking everything up?
@lilil-liil-ilili51822 ай бұрын
Despite all that, Lance never does everything for the empire, he never sends backup for Tommy whilst Tommy was doing everything to keep his empire protected. Tommy would have everyright to get mad at Lance for not doing his job, he would never betray, hurt or rip off Lance. Tommy kept his word for all that, but Lance on the other hand, he still betrays Tommy and why? It's because of Sonny.

GTA SA the Introduction being missing from the Definitive edition makes sense since it was released after the vanilla game and contains some retcons for some plot holes in GTA SA's story. Like it explains why Ryder chooses to betray Grove Street. It's widely believed that the reason why he does in GTA SA is either due to development constraints or the voice actor leaving (however the VA has disputed this upon being asked, he stated they didn't ask him to do any more voice acting). The Introduction was also not an in-engine cutscene like all of GTA SA's were, it was just a pre-rendered video. And it's presumed Rockstar never kept the development files for it. So it would've been impossible to update its graphics unless they remade it from scratch. And it's largely unnecessary since it mostly just adds context behind some of the characters like why Ken Rosenberg is in San Andreas to begin with or why CJ's mom is killed by the Green Sabre.
@theinceptor36722 жыл бұрын
The reason why there was an intro even made was becuz Ryder wasn't meant to be a betrayer... He's meant to be a *Ken Rosenberg* in GTA San Andreas.... You can watch many videos explaining this topic and tbh I kinda wished it didn't went the way it did..
@DeadYorick2 жыл бұрын
@@theinceptor3672 I honestly think the Ryder betrayal was intended just the development of the game was somewhat rushed towards the end and they didn't have time to add stuff in for it. When Sonny says "They'll remember soon enough when they see him walking the street," I interpret that as Tommy has a well-known reputation as a murderer in the area, and it would cause the locals to panic to see him walking free.

This was beautiful. If GTA Games are done with the right graphics and proper stories they are a banger. When you go this deep on story you realize how beautiful it is.

Video was too long. Halfway through it, I got hungry so I left it playing and went to the kitchen to fix my self a sandwich. But then I found out that I'm out of mayonnaise so I went to a store. There, I saw the most beautiful woman I have ever seen in my whole life. But I'm really a shy person so I took up a three-year personality development course so I can introduce my self. She was very friendly and all, but unfortunately, she has a boyfriend. So I said, all good, I'm a mature person. I want the best for her and I harbor no illusion that I am the best person for her and she seems happy with her boyfriend, so I did not bother her anymore. But we kept in touch and we became friends and I got over my crush on her. Then she broke up with her boyfriend, we drank some alcohol because of it, I told her she'll be fine and I wished her well. I still think she's the most beautiful woman in the world, but like I said, I am over my crush on her. It was like five years already when I first saw her. Besides, I am quite happy with the friendship I developed with her. It was more important than a crush. So we kept hanging out, drinking, having coffee, and all. I had a girlfriend, she started dating other guys. My girlfriend wants to live some other life without me in it, so I said, okay, I want the best for you and I want you to pursue your happiness. My lady friend and I drank alcohol about it, and she gave me the same advice I gave her when she was in that position and I became okay with the breakup immediately. But we were really drunk, so she spent the night in my apartment. I only have one bed, so you know what that means: She took the bed and I slept on the couch. But on the couch, I really can't sleep. Something was bothering me. So I tossed and turned for about three hours, then I finally can't take it anymore, I stood up and went straight to my room where she's sleeping. I approached the bed, gently sat on it and I reached for her shoulder to pull her closer to me. She stirred and woke up. She asked what's up. I told her, you know, the first time I saw you, I was watching a video and left it playing to get my self a sandwich then went to the store to get some mayo then I got distracted by life that I forgot to finish the video. She said, you know what, I've been wondering about a weird noise in your night drawer. So we opened that drawer, and lo and behold, there's my phone and this video still has two minutes of play time on it.

Sonny being hungry for power is that same attitude what made the Forellis the most powerful family within Liberty City. The other members of the Forelli family probably did not have that attitude and which made them less powerful.

Yes!! Never played the 3D games so these lore videos help me understand the 3D universe fully. At least until I find a way to play the original games. At first I was interested in the "Defective Edition" but we all know how that release went.

The one you don't want to play from the "Defective edition" is Gta San Andreas because it's still full of bugs or things not done properly. III & Vice City are still good, there are just a few things to fix but nothing too bad. Try those two because San Andreas is just like Cyberpunk 2077 right now.

Something I like to point out when you were talking about the show. The boss actually did had full right to kill that guy cause he kept disrespecting the boss, my grandfather knew guys from the mob and they said even though your making money, if your disrespecting the boss openly and to his face, your a dead man walking. Doesn't matter if he was a made man or not, you never disrespect a boss in any family even your own.
@dreademperor2094 Жыл бұрын
I know that you shouldn't disrespect the boss but I didn't know that you could get killed for it, although I probably should've guess that was the case

I think Sonny Forelli had the whole thing planned out perfectly. He probably secretly cut a deal with Diaz to where if the deal went down as intended, Forelli would be in a very strong position but if Diaz sabotaged the deal, Forelli would presumably be rid of Tommy and still gotten a cut of the action. Note when Tommy calls Sonny after getting back from the deal, Sonny has a lot of money and coke on the table already. He kept the pressure on Tommy because he got greedy, wanting to get more power in Vice City and still get rid of Tommy, and that ultimately backfired on him.
