What I don’t understand about NCIS is are that THAT MANY CRIMES to solve in the US Navy that you need several branches?!

It is based on the Real NCIS in America….America has so many navel bases including naval personnel and marine corp all around the world….the REAL NCIS personnel are trained in investigating, forensics analysis etc etc…the series originated from the show “JAG” which is REAL…it stands for Judge Advocate General a military acronym for the REAL military legal services in America….then they turned into a franchise with all the spin offs and are cashing in on the fact there are a lot of REAL bases and the various military operations the REAL NCIS do….similar to the police procedural shows like FBI, CIA, SVU, Criminal Intent, Trial by Jury etc…America and Americans are/is the biggest country obsessed with crime and gun toting in the world by the way…yet most of them claim to be God faring citizens.
