Beautiful! I'm just curious what made you go with the less popular/known translation of "darkest of valleys" instead of the more popular/ known "Valley of the shadow of death"? Also, I know that that probably sounds like I'm upset or disapproving of that decision, but I assure you I'm really just interested to know your thinking and reasoning! Emotion and intonation can be hard to convey via text haha. I've been really deep diving and studying the Bible the past 2 years, and these kinds of little differences and the reasons/thinking behind them are really interesting to me! I've been even trying to study Greek and Hebrew, right now I'm focused on Hebrew. Thanks! And thank you and everyone involved with the Psalms Project! It's been such a blessing finding you guys! Thanks for your question! That phrase is etymologically difficult because it appears to be two words joined together" "shadow" (or "darkness") and "death." It could be rendered "deathly darkness" or "darkness of death" or even "deep darkness." "Valley of the shadow of death" is a beautiful translation, but I wrote it this way to communicate the same idea in a more fresh way for the audience, and it also fit better melodically in that part of the song!
