From the outside looking in, I think you have done a great job of adapting to life in France. You have made friends and have done such a great job learning the language. You did so well you're able to study in college solely taught in French, to me that is so impressive. I see some expats who move to a another country and do not bother to learn the language. I would say definitely apply to be naturalized. In my eyes you have earned it!! Great video as always 😊😊

Hi! :) I can totally relate to what you're saying at the end, I'm half french/half British and spent my childhood in France and my adolescence in the UK. I'm currently still in the UK, just finished my studies. With all this free time suddenly on my hands, the question of where to go moving forward (career wise and just literally where to live once my lease is up lol) has been weighing on me. I feel like the whole time I lived in France I was trying to identify myself with the UK, to connect with that, and since I've lived in the UK I want to connect with my french identity. The problem in a lot of ways is that no matter which country I'm in, people don't identify with me as a cultural equal (if that makes sense?).. In France it's like oh but you're British and in Britain it's like oh but you're not British, you're French. I feel like I lack a sense of belonging anywhere now. I want to go back to France but since I haven't lived there in so long and lost touch with all my contacts there I'm not sure I'll connect with it anymore and instead just feel like an imposter. Anyway - all that just to say, I relate!!! Love seeing your Paris vlogs because it allows me to re-connect with the place I was raised and see a side to it I was never able to explore as a grown up

Thank you for this great video❤ I totally get that "in between nationalities thing" and I do think having a French passport will be helpful. I am half German half Bulgarian but since I live in Germany it is hard to stay in touch with my Bulgarian identity and my passport definitely makes me feel more connected to Bulgaria. Even if you don't feel completely French you still have that French part in you now that won't go away anytime soon.

There's been a few days this spring where it was warm enough for me to go to the park in a sun dress, but I've also been up in the Highlands in late June and had to wear mittens and a scarf! It's ok though because the landscape is so beautiful and otherworldly 💚

Loved this video (as I have done with all your others). I'm learning French and watching your videos helps give me the context and cultural insight to keep me motivated (plus it's really helpful to have the bilingual aspect to your videos). The last part of your video was quite emotional...I'm British and actually lived in US for a bit. There was little in the way of language barrier (except for different spellings, slang etc. etc.) but the culture shock was massive. I'm quite likeable which was helpful but nevertheless unknown to most people around me, I felt a cultural distance that couldn't be closed. It's not surprising you feel that way but I think you've done so well to put yourself through education in a French speaking institution and to carve out a Francophone social circle and really embrace the French culture and language. That really is admirable and I think the conflict in your identity you're experiencing, without meaning to negate your feelings and experience thus far, can be spun into a positive - you're integrating into and remaining respectful to a very different culture but you're also maintaining parts of your upbringing that make you uniquely you 😊. Look forward to more bilingual content 😊

I feel that "in between" feeling so often :( I'm Canadian but I was born in Israel and my background is Liberian so it feels like I'm just floating between cultures most of the time. I totally get what you mean and I try to not let little things get to me (like when people ask "where are you from" and I say Toronto and they say "no, where are you really from" as if I'm not as much of a Canadian as they are) but it's really hard. How do people expect me to say I'm from a country I've never even stepped foot into or one that's just a distant memory? I know you said you don't always feel very French, but you're the most French person I know! I remember I didn't even realize you weren't French when I first started watching your videos because of how dreamy they are. I think you'll always have a your American side in you even if you do eventually feel like a tourist there, and that'll always be a part of you (even if it just becomes a tiny part :) Anyways, I think It's awesome that you have the possibility of getting a French passport! My Israeli passport is something I still have and it's cool to have something that keeps you connected to a place no matter how "in between" you feel.

Hey Shayla. I get the whole "not french-but not american" feeling. I've only lived here for two years but I feel like this is my home now. Now that I can really speak French and can give tourists directions and that I have my own community. I'm taking my french boyfriend to the states with me this summer and It's going to be really weird because I haven't been back for over a year now. I'm looking forward to getting French citizenship one day because I love this country and it's my home. I'm finding I'm really proud of how far I've come with the language and I'm so satisfied by how much work I've put in to be at this point. My past two years here have been the best years of my life and the work is worth it for the happiness that I have here. I love having someone on youtube in a somewhat similar situation.

Yes, yes, yes I feel the same way. I moved here knowing that I could get nationalisation after my visa finished (as it's 4 years) but I have days where I don't know if I'll even get to the end of the year because of the levels of how much I feel accepted or local. I think the key maybe is to find enjoyment in being in the middle of two cultures perhaps? Being from somewhere and calling somewhere else 'home.' Maybe that's a lovely option we all have as expats where we have two instead of one? I don't know, there's certainly days. So thank you for bringing them up and making me not feel alone

I'm a Canadian living in Poland. Moved here when I was 13 and it's been 8 years. My parents are Polish so I was already a Polish national from birth and I knew some of the language, had visited here before, etc. But it was still a huge culture shock. I feel just like you: a foreigner in this country and a foreigner in my "home" country, but I much prefer living here because I feel like the culture is so much richer than back home. I think even when I was younger living in Canada I felt foreign because my parents were first generation immigrants and my life didn't looks like other kids' lives. When I moved here I went to an international school where all the kids had backgrounds like mine and most hadn't lived in one country for more than a couple of years. I just try to accept my in-between state of being, especially since I see myself living in another, different country very soon. Love your videos xx

The video was fascinating, as always, but I really didn't expect the last bit. I'm an Italian girl about to graduate High School and I applied for University in England. I am going to study there and most probably work there, and I already know that something is going to change. I feel connected to Italy and my various groups of people, but as a country, I think we are going towards an endless spiral of social decay, and I use that as an "excuse" to leave my country. I am so very confused and anxious, but I have to go, I am doing it exclusively for myself, and no one else.
