I can't post pics, but I have to share because it makes me so happy: I adopted an adult cat a year ago. I wasn't sure at all if she would ever accept a roommate because she came from the streets where she'd obliously been abandoned by a previous owner for whatever reason and she displayed clear signs of being protective over her resources, even though she was immediately owning her new territory. About a month and a half ago I fell in love with a kitten from my neighborslitter and decided to try. My adult kitty was so upset at first that I felt so guilty and was trying to figure out how to find the kitten a good home, but Day the kitten managed to slip passed the barrier I set up to try to let them get used to each other gradually and my adult cat just sort of accepted that this was a thing now. A month later and my kitten is learning from her big sibling and the adult has taken to grabbing the kitten and giving her baths and wrest'ling with her as gently as you would a baby. And they both seem so happy!

I too brought two male kittens to a single cat home, and was concerned about introducing them to the adult male. We kept the babies in a closed off room for a couple of weeks, hoping the pawsies under the door and scent exchange would be enough to get them acquainted. When we finally opened the door, the old man just looked at us as if "This is what all the fuss was about?" and walked away. Everyone has gotten along since. In contrast, my Mom has adopted adult strays, and this wasn't always successful. A couple never did accept or adapt, and actually fought aggressively. I suspect that the best bet is to add kittens, not adults, to an established cat home. They're not seen as a threat by the older cat, and because his territory is already established and theirs is not, there's no need for aggression. There is an exception though- an un-neutered male may kill a kitten in the presence of an un-spayed female to stop her from nursing and bring her back into her cycles and into heat, making her available to him.

We have a Maine Coon male cross that was returned to the shelter twice and was not in good mental shape when we got him. Several years later he is the sweetest boy and is really sociable. He has a whole language of his own and it quite capable of telling us what he wants. He is completely unlike any of our previous cats and is an absolute delight to have around. On top of all that he is a VERY successful mouser. Such an adorable cat to say the least.

My roommate and I trapped and eventually adopted this 1-year-old feral cat who was living in our yard (at 9500 feet in the CO Rockies) who was so deeply mistrustful of humans he would not allow himself to even be touched - he’d run away at top speed the second your hands began to move to touch him - it was like he read your mind if you so much as thought about trying to pet him! So I made it a personal goal to win over his trust. For three months I never even thought about trying to pet him once, but I would constantly and repeatedly walk right up to him and walk away, until he got used to me. Then I’d walk up to him and stand or sit very close to him without even trying to touch him, and he got used to that. At that point I could actually reach my hand out to him without him running away, and soon after that he started *wanting* me to pet him! About a month later he was rolling over onto his back and *demanding* belly-rubs and purring loudly the whole time! It was such an amazing turn-around. Unfortunately I’m the only human being he allows to even touch him so far at age 4 now, but that’s fine with me.

My rescue tabby is very affectionate. She loves to get brushed and stroked. We do a good deal of slow blinking at one another. She never scratches the furniture or knocks items off counters and tabletops. However, her favorite part of me is my chest. Only rarely has she ever cuddled up on my lap. No, she likes to park it so I can see nothing but her. I can't read, watch TV or scroll on my phone. Also, when she follows me in the bathroom EVERY SINGLE TIME I go in, she loves to scratch my shins, though I have repeatedly scolded her for doing so. Cats are weird but delighfully so. 🥰🐈

I have a very mischievous cat (in a good way) who keeps me entertained with her antics. In the morning, if I am not up by a certain time, this is when she takes the opportunity to start knocking things over on the bedside table. If that doesn’t work, she moves to the shower where she swipes at the curtain because it makes noise. Whatever she can do to get me out of bed-by 6am! Sometimes I get a hour more, but that is her limit. 😸

My cat never ever pushed anything from the table, nor did she destroy anything. She stretches holding herself with the front paws either on the sofa or the chairs, sometimes the wall next to the door (mainly when preparing to go outside). She does not sit or lay on me anymore (as a little kitten she did lay on my chest). She does not get into the bed (at least not when someone is in it). She prefers the sofa(s) or chair near us, about 0.5 - 1m away. In the night, when she wants to get outside, she literally runs over my chest to wake me up. Then she sits in front of the door to be opened. She does not like cuddling, but head butting and stroking her head and neck is fine. Touching her belly is a no go. She is a lot outside, no matter which weather. From the evenings until late mornings (with small breaks for food and naps). Usually sleeping between 11 a.m. to 7 - 8 p.m. Outside about 12 hours, some breaks included. Coming Inside she always moves between my legs, rubbing her head against me.

@@semperfi818, My original, awesome cat that I got in first grade, taught me about cats. He was a big, stout, magnificent, beautiful, Russian Blue who I would make eye contact with from across the room, I would lay down or get down on the floor with my head facing him and he would slowly pick up momentum the closer he got and BAM, head to head contact along with his rub/swipe by. He would actually hit pretty hard and tuck his head for impact. I just thought it was our special thing and not cat behavior. It took years for me to understand that this was just a part of their communication. Of course I understood that it was MY cat’s communication. Best cat ever. I could hear the thump in my skull! I was concerned for a while that he might be hurting himself by smacking me so hard. No worries, it was just strong affection and he lived 16 years.
