I've never understood why some people dress their cats up. I think the cat's fur is gorgeous. Of my 9 cats, only 3 wear safety collars even though they are indoor cats. 4 of my cats are black. Makes for quick identification so Fluffy (my long term foster cat although I haven't heard from her owner now for 9 months so I don't think she's going anywhere) has a pink collar with diamontes. Kira has a black collar with diamontes, Oscar has a dark blue spotted collar with a little red bowtie and very dapper he looks too. Lucky doesn't have a collar.

While I agree with this as a principle. . .not all cats are the same. Some cats need it for medical reasons (one of the authors I follow has a Maine Coon who will NOT survive another surgery to deal with an impacted stomach due to overgrooming. . .he also happens to love his sweaters and there are videos of him asking for certain ones). Sphynx''s get cold and sometimes need them to help retain body heat. . .and some cats just don't care and do actually seem to enjoy them.

Change of subject, I make my cats their cat food, completely homemade, and they have zero, and I mean zero litter box odor. I but the cheapest cat litter that you scoop yourself from Petco. It's work to make it, but it's all raw meat as they are 100% carnivores, so they love it.

I can vouch on this. I make homemade cat food for all 6 of my cats and there is barely any odor at all. The most it smells is immediately after they relieve themselves but the smell very quickly goes away after a few minutes.

Another tip if you cannot make raw diet or strictly meat.. I have 3 and have always fed them only baby blue or blue buffalo and have NEVER had an odor problem either... I have 4 boxes in a small condo too. No kidding .. 😉 never smells
@hallaloth311211 ай бұрын
Good on you for giving your kitty a species appropriate diet! I can't wait to be able to switch my boys over to at least a commercial raw while I dive into looking how to properly balance DIY. I'll free admit, a small reason is for the smelly poos. It dissipates quickly enough, and I know its no where near as bad as most. . . but add that to health reasons? Heck yes I'm taking that plunge.

Beware of unsupervised play with a "catnip mouse" like the one shown at 7:17. My cat ripped the stitching open while playing with one in front of me. I was able to get it away from him before he ingested the fiber-like stuffing. So I won't be buying those any more.

Oh my collar stories. My baby that I lost a few months ago HATED wearing a collar, but I tried for a while because I was afraid of her having no clear id if she got out. One collar I found was a softer material but wasn't break away. It was adjustable with the type of strap like a bag, where it folds over a ring and is pulled one way or the other through the buckle to adjust. I just happened to reach out to pet her one day and noticed she'd manage to get the adjustable part of the collar in her mouth and was trying to pull it off but didn't understand that she was actually tightening it around her own neck. I decided the collar wasn't worth it after that one. I do have a break away collar on my new kitty with her chip info and reflective stitching because she's likely to get hyper and run and she doesn't seem bothered by the collar in the slightest.

Are your cats neutered? Maybe it's the hormones making them crazy. Otherwise, if the cat wants to go out and explore, you should try harness training the cat. Just keep in mind that there is no escape free harness and you should have a safety plan in mind. Like bringing a pet bag/backpack, teaching the cat commands to jump on you or similar!

@@livingstone8347 If your cat gets lost and someone finds it, he can take it to a vet. They have microchip readers that can identify the cat owner. That's what chips are for: identification. They are always implanted at the same place on the cat’s body and thus easy to find.

I have found that feline pine litter is great because the natural pine helps with odors and breaks down into sawdust and dries the fecal matter for easier scooping. With the double pan it is easy to remove the sawdust and add more litter. Of course can’t be used in automatic litter boxes. I only had one cat that ever wanted any of my food but that was only brown gravy. Switched his food to cat food with gravy and he quit trying to eat mine.

I’ve always considered it cruel to dress or bath your cat. There’s never a reason to put costumes or clothes on your cat. Give them some respect. There’s only a a small amount of reasons to bathe your cat. Such as they’ve got into something harmful to them. They’re sick or elderly and are finding caring for themselves properly. You’ve been told to by your vet. Cats can look after themselves they don’t need you to do it for them. Show them more respect, play with them. Love them in a way that they find comfortable.

So. . . are we forgetting that some cats NEED a sweater for medical reasons? It's generally recommend to get a sweater for Sphynx for example. Or for cats that chronically overgroom so they don't have to have surgery for all the impacted fur they consume. Also. . .all animals are different. There are some that literally do not care and enjoy it.

why would one even consider these things gifts anyway? gifts are supposed to benefit the one that they are being given to and not the gift giver. all these "gifts" do is benefit the cat owner at the expense of the cat's safety and/or comfort. the best gift one can give is providing things that make the cat safe and comfortable. the people who would even give their cats these things are just selfish. also, the fact that there are people who dress up their cats is cursed. people who think dressing up their cat look cuter are just nonsensical. cats look cute enough by themselves. if you try to increase the cuteness of the cat it will ruin the elegance of the cat's appearance. to me putting costumes and clothing on cats is just stupid. it hurts the cat while also making them look worse. its one of the few things i look at and see is wrong with society. edit: maybe not all of these gifts are selfish but most of them are. the exception is the giving of festive foods. while feeding the cat festive foods may still be harmful to the cat, it is still done with good intentions.
@myriamickx796911 ай бұрын
Totally agree with you. AND I would never feed my cats with festive foods for humans. They can be toxic, and there is no reason cats, being true carnivorous, would enjoy our food. If I get them a little extra, it will be a more expensive, luxury kind of cat food, one portion each.
