I'm a huge Borws fan, great break down everything yu stated in the vid is spot on. I contest some of the apprehenshion and a tad late looking stuff are two fold. I believe he has been coached, with this running game, do not take chances, if its not wide open do not throw it. Number two, I think he is still settling into the system. Not sure in his mind he knows what to look for right away after a play fake or turning on a naked boot. I think it will all get better as comfort level gets greater. I hope!

The OC for the Browns said in his introduction press conference that he wanted to work on Baker's footwork this off season b/c it was terrible. It's one of Baker's weaknesses, but the coaching staff are at least aware of it and are making progress with him.
@Sentient_Blob4 жыл бұрын
@Joseph R Not what the film says. He’s clearly much more comfortable than he was a year ago, and his problems that developed last year are finally starting to improve. I think the reason his grade declined is because he’s doing much less for the team than past years. He tried to carry the offense the first few years, and now he’s sitting back and acting as a game manager. This might hurt his pff grades, as it probably judges how important you are to the team’s success

Until the media 'talking heads' understand Baker Mayfield is NOT a pocket passer. Never comfortable there, probably never will be. Baker turns into gunslinger Joe whenever he is playing from the pocket. His accuracy suffers and, more importantly, his ball placement turns into a mishmash of wtf throws. Baker has improved his footwork and mechanics so well this year because he actually has a coaching staff that knows what they are doing and Baker is listening. Unfortunately Baker has some bad habits that still need to be beat out of him but he is coming along nicely. The one thing that is overlooked by so many because they have no full set of metrics to measure is Baker's intelligence combined with innate leadership abilities. After being totally confused and embarrassed by inept coaching staffs for his first two years under three or four coaches, Baker is now under the tutelage of an intelligent head coach and talented coaching staff. This is an exceptionally talented team that was lacking proper guidance, discipline and teaching. That is in the past. Is it frustrating to watch Baker not be able to play at a high level all four quarters? Sure, but this should be treated like its his rookie year, not his third year in the league. Yeah, my bias shows but I always hope to keep it in perspective. I love watching "gunslinger" Baker but I much prefer controlled, disciplined Baker to win games.

Kitchens has done it before but not as consistently as Stefanski who thankfully is a much better offensive playcaller and creative with his personnel groupings. Stefanski at least has short/intermediary targets for the pass catching RBs/TEs to go along with some deep ball targets for OBJ/Landry. Best part is before teams even fear that, Chubb (when healthy) and Hunt are also grinding it on the ground and running through a good O-line. There is a better foundation to how the team attacks match ups while playing to Baker's strength as a game manager with legs.

@YRG Ace As a supporter of Baker, I agree. But product wise, I'm sceptical. Baker's biggest strength coming out of OU was his accuracy & moxy on third down, he showed flashes of it in his rookie season, but since then he's been shaky consistently & turnover prone which doesn't help. Not to mention the ability to etend plays he's showed at OU is non-existent. He absolutely not outrunning DE's in this league. I do believe in him as a supporter though, it seems like he's building more confidence within his system.

I'm sorry but that is deff not good by any measure. Also i get they are a run first team now, but in a year that seems like every QB in the league has passed for 300 yards....Baker has still yet to pass for 250 in any game this season and only over 200 in 2 out of 5 games. These are the actual FACTS, no more excuses for him. He has a dominant run game, a dominant O-Line for once, a good HC and skill players all around him.
