As the resident Texans supporter, it is primarily scheme, and secondarily mindset. We do not have the greatest offensive line, but that can be overcome with good gameplan and scheme. First, you need the QB to understand his role is to get the ball out fast, and almost never look for the run unless they have a mile of open space (like 15 yards to the closest person in coverage). Watson is looking for bigger greater separation, and more downfield throws over dumpoffs, which is hard to swallow, but he needs to be like Newton/Brees this year. Second, but most important is scheme...I do not believe I need to express the ineptitude of the brain trust of our head coach 😒

This has been such a frustrating pattern. Whether it be deshaun, darnold, rosen, baker, possibly even wentz. These guys with loads of talent and the potential to be great qbs getting stuck in these terrible situations and visibly getting worse and making more mistakes with time. Some more drastic than others but like deshaun was an mvp frontrunner his rookie year, wentz WAS the mvp, baker was PHENOMENAL his rookie year. Darnold and rosen were both great but never stood a chance. Its insane to see the effect that poor coaching and bad situations can have on very good players

It seems to me like the main problems are that they have scheme issues and can’t scheme anyone open and now because he doesn’t have a receiver who can overcome that and command double teams in DHop, the issues are a lot more visible. They also have have even worse pass protection this year. Both of these issues I feel like magnify deshauns greatest strength/weakness which is that he always wants to make a play which causes him to hold the ball too long sometimes and attempt a lot more risky throws.

Hall of Famer Rothlisberger playing with Claypool and Ebron and you break down the losing quarterback. Ha ha I know Big Ben has never played under a typical West Coast style offense and is more of a gunslinger but I think that’s all the more reason to study him and the amazing coordinators that he has worked under over the years.

Is he not getting better because of talent, coaching, or reading defenses.
