Thanks so much for this! I bought a Mi-band 5 only a week ago (to replace a Mi-band 2 which fell off), and so far my experience matches yours. Altogether it seems to be much more accurate than the old model, but I haven't checked it while cycling yet because of the bad weather here in the UK. My step counter seems very accurate, but I haven't checked the heart monitor when doing vigorous exercise yet. Some other features of the and are very useful too (like reading notifications on the wrist, etc.)

Hi, I really liked your video as I am looking for a good cheap sleep tracker. A tip that I read in several places is that the heart rate can be affected by light, so there are many people who put a scarf next to the wrist to block the entrance of light to the watch.

I've had this watch for over 3 months now and this review gave me pretty accurate expectations. Regarding measuring higher heart rate (at least when cycling outdoors), I find that it's more reliable if I have the watch *quite loose*, and low on my wrist. Gravity should be enough to keep the watch in contact my skin, and that is all that's needed. My hypothesis is that starting with the watch tight means that as the wrist warms up from increased blood flow, it swells and becomes too tight for a pulse to be detected by the watch. My skin is of a neither light nor dark complexion. So long as there's contact with skin, it should be close enough to see the blood flow. The most difficult readings come when my skin is cold - there's no real way to get any kind of an accurate reading if that happens. Also, I keep this watch charged between around 75-65% as much as possible (an analogue timer for my power outlet helps) to prolong the lifespan of the battery so I shouldn't need to throw this away too soon. I think this watch is pretty good value for the price, given that a lot more money would probably need to be spent on anything significantly better.

Loved it! Scientist here too, so seeing something so well made feels great! I was wondering how results change when using the MiBand with a different tracking app, like "Sleep as Android" for night sleep and "Notify for mi band" for sleep, steps, and workouts. I prefer the latter over Mi Fit as it allows to change so many settings, even the heart rate sampling. I suppose each app applies a different raw data elaboration, which makes it really interesting for me :)

Great vid. As you mentioned, false positive in steps tracking is also important to test and also maybe how well they perform after say a few months to understand if the sensors are still accurate. Also, as you mentioned data on other people would be helpful. Many people believe that the heart rate tracker tech performs badly on people with darker skin so would be interesting to see the variability there.

Thanks a lot, this is what I wanted to see. I have seen that the Mi Band 5 is a bit bad in step counting. It counts steps when I'm sleeping or even when not wearing it. It seems to work well when running, I have no reference, but it detects the changes in heart rate as it should, that is, when I increase the pace, it detects the increase in heart rate, and when decrease pace, also detects the decrease in heart rate.
