80s baby here. Was not interested at all in this movie when I first heard about it. Then I saw the trailer, it instantly turned me off. I am not a fan of this style of animation. Don't get me twisted, i like the idea of a new group of tmnt fans, just that this tmnt isn't meant for me. Will let someone else have my seat.

Warning! Long comment, you can skip if you'd like, I'm not offended at all. Suppose the TLDR would be, I love everything & not chained down by nostalgia but I can understand the feel for someone who is. Totally fair, I'd love to see a more adult version as a movie but like I personally will take most things because I don't have that nostalgia tie, I got into it as an adult & for different reasons. I adore the characters & have so much fun seeing how various iterations takes them because they end up being different enough within them but with still nearly the same base so it's just cool for me to see. Even sometimes I end up fluctuating between my favorites within the same thing like in the 90's live action movies, I really like Raphael there but in the second one, I lean more towards liking Donatello. In the 2007 movie, I wanted to like Donnie a lot because him working in IT support in the beginning was so funny but he ended up lacking throughout most of the movie & I favored Raph but for the prequel comics to that movie, I ended up liking Leo most because that dude did NOT hold back when it came to freeing those kids that were being sold into slavery like I'm pretty sure he murdered those guys, good for him. Seriously though, I'd take an entire movie of just Donnie working in IT support so my tastes are very questionable. For the animated shows, if you want to know my favorites, it goes 87: Raphael 03: Donatello 2012: Michelangelo Rise: Donatello so rounding out, Donnie does take the favorite slot over all but counting all the movies & stuff, it gets more complicated. So I just really love seeing the various turtles in different iterations so for me, this movie just gives yet another world where I can see them & how they are here. It interests me to no end. Sure, I'm in my 30's & this movie more so caters to a new audience of kids but I don't care. I'd like to see something more adult but at the same time, you can get Animaniacs moments in things meant for kids. A good example I can think of is from the 2012 show where they full on had Mikey make a sex joke that I'm shocked slipped by the censors. When they're in the turtle sub & there's that creature from Dimension X swimming around, I was thinking "aww man, they're going to do that classic joke of creature falling in love with the vehicle, aren't they?" Sure enough, they did & I rolled my eyes but then, this quickly became one of the best jokes in the series when Mikey shouts "hey! We're not that kind of sub!" My reaction, I was stunned, I had to pause the episode just so I could breath & try to figure out if what I had heard was indeed what I had heard. Once I could function again, I rewound & listened to it again & sure enough, I heard it correctly so I had to pause in order to laugh. It almost hits better when it's meant for kids because you do not see it coming. MM could surprise us, maybe not that level of a joke but I'm sure they'll squeeze something in there. When it comes to nostalgic ties, I get it, I have the things from my childhood that I'm attached to & immediately have my guard up when I hear about a reboot or movie or whatnot. I liked the 80's Alvin & the Chipmunks cartoon as a kid & I also watched the monster movies that I believe came out during the 90's like the Wolfman one so when the new Alvin & the Chipmunks movies came out, you know the ones, had my guard up & rightfully so, definitely was let down by them but I was getting older & it was clear it was meant for the kids of the time so knowing they're not for me helps & those kids are adults now, I'm not gonna be hard on some 20 year old who claims to love those movies. Suppose something that helped me be far more open & excited for what comes next would be my experience with Ducktales, I had been watching the 80's cartoon since before I can even remember, the TV was like a third parent, my parents would throw on the Disney Channel whenever I was fussy so Ducktales has been there with me pretty much my entire life. Love it to pieces & when I was older, I ended up obsessing over Darkwing Duck, took me a while because I didn't like Launchpad in that series, as a young kid, I was of the mind it wasn't my Launchpad since he wasn't working with Scrooge & didn't crash as often but I softened up when I got older & loved the series, maybe even more than Ducktales. When the 2017 reboot came out, I was cautious, had my doubts but planned to watch it anyways. I have all the DVDs that were released for the original Ducktales cartoon so I watched a whole bunch of episodes the day leading into when the all day marathon of the first episode of the reboot playing & at midnight when it premiered, I switched over to the TV to watch it, I ended up re-watching that first episode probably like 4 or 5 times that day because of how much I loved it. The 2017 cartoon ended up being better than the 80's one which shocked me but these people knew exactly what they were doing, so many call outs to Disney Afternoon, the comic books, & so much more like they crammed in obscure references. That is what opened my eyes to what reboots can be. They might not be the thing from my childhood but sometimes, they're made by the people who also had that thing apart of their childhood & have a lot of love & care put into it. I like to be optimistic when going into things now with that in mind & I get you were saying you're still excited, your reaction is probably similar to how I reacted to Phineas & Ferb getting a few more seasons. Excited but a little let down. I was older than the target audience for that show when it came out but my favorite show, Danny Phantom, had just ended recently & I needed a new show to grasp onto so I got addicted to P&F, my friends all know I'm a major fan of the series so like all of them were sending me the article talking about it getting more seasons & I was like "meh, that's cool I guess." Felt bad I couldn't be more excited but in this case, it's a continuation, not a reboot & that show ran its course so I felt no need for it to get anything else further but I'm still excited, more content for a series I like. With how much there is of the TMNT, it's like a huge fountain that is difficult to drain. I did manage to binge watch all of 2003, 2012, Rise, & all the movies within the span of a month with about 10 episodes of 87 piled onto that & was busy with life during that month (multitasking & balance) so it is a miracle I was able to get through all that. I am 18 episodes into 87 now, that one is more slow going but I probably will watch it as I clean. Even with all I've seen, there's still a lot more to experience out there so like I can get, it's just another thing topped onto something so massive & with how many adult fans there are, it sucks we're not getting a more mature movie. There's plenty for kids, although with how dark 03 gets, I probably wouldn't let kids under the age of 10 watch it unless I know they can handle it, but there isn't enough for an older audience outside of the comic books. I'll take whatever they throw at us & most likely love it so I'm over the moon thrilled but I can see from the perspective of someone who isn't. Sorry, I didn't mean for yet another long comment, it's just how I roll I guess, if the comment isn't a mile long, then is it really me who is commenting?

AGREED. This movie looks fun but I’m over reboots and stuff aimed at new audiences. I’m dying for a dark mirage comics series or movie trilogy that’s 100 percent accurate to source material. I wanna see all red bandanna turtles slicing through the foot clan. I wanna see shredder getting his head sliced off by a red bandanna Leonardo. With vibes like that 2010 ninja assassin movie.

I have one of the graphic novels from then, it was a graphic novel that as a kid I was just… I read front to back so many times and it wasn’t even the complete series I had… it was just book 4 of the set… it just reminded me sooo much of the og 90’s movie… the look of the turtles.. it’s pretty much the mirage Neca turtles that recently hit… looking at reviews of those figures brought back memories of that book… I was probably 9 or 10… I just got to thinking… man… if Nickelodeon jumped at the opportunity to put out an animated movie just like DC when they release their more adult oriented content in animated form… I’m just if Nick did that with this set of graphic novels that were released all those years ago… a TMNT movie for the adults that grew up being fans of not only the cartoons and movies but the comic as well… a more serious.. edgy, dirty more lived in feeling world of those graphic novels.. I’d be fine not seeing the movie suits return… I’m just… get some of those DC guys to come do some work for this…it’d be so cool to see those graphic novels coming to life in animated form…. A last ronin animated movie would be great, those old school mirage graphic novels? 🔥 it’d be something insanely special

My sentiments exactly. I was a part of the TMNT craze as a 5 year old kid, so I hold this franchise very close to my heart as well. This film is OK for the kids (I also don't have any), as it is a Nick film. Which is fine, but it still misses my personal target. My wish would be to see a gritty Mirage film or miniseries one day. Or a film that continues where the first or second film left off.

im a 80s kid too, and still a big turtles fan. my son is also a fan, he likes the 80s show, the 1990 movie, the tmnt movie and the 2012 tv series. he too is a solid “eh” about this film. so its def not just our generation that has reservations. and to comment on that last part you said about the 90 suits, yes please. ive been wanting a legit return to form for the live action films for forever. we’d be there in a heartbeat if they did 💪⚔️

The last good TMNT movie I saw was the 2007 version and the Batman crossover. I'm not a fan of the art style and framework of the new movie. I'm still holding my breath for a gritty, violent, and story-driven variant that is close to the original vision of Peter and Kevin. The new stuff feels like a cash grab.

a 12 baby here, I love this movie. been obsessing about it since I heard about it. But really, this is a movie for children, not grown adults. Now does that stop you and I to watch it? Of course not! As someone who is that fixated on TMNT that I watched ''We wish you a turtle Christmas'' and actually think it ate, I personally consider this a generational problem. Said the SAME exact thing. It’s definitely gonna be a good movie but i, much like you and everyone else in our age range, want a grittier take on tmnt thats more in line with the 1990 movie. I actually feel like there MUST be a tmnt movie/series etc, in the pipeline eventually. The older fans have been practically BEGGING for something like that for years now. I do have a theory.. I think Seth Rogens plan is to hopefully have the actors grow with the characters, have the first few films and the series be more comedic but than add darker elements as they go on. If they keep up what they did here with MM than I’m all for it, I trust Seth with this as he’s done The Boys and Invincible

Actually not unpopular at all, I agree we need another live action film where they bring back the practical suits from the original films. Everything nowadays is so reliant on CGI. I think the new film is going to be great but we need that tone of the original 90s film back and I really hope we get a spiritual successor to that someday in the near future. The kids these days have had their fun with these latest iterations of tmnt shows, now it's our turn! lol
