Edit: I looked up what Germans thought of his gesture, they said they had to censor the gesture on German TV. It is what we thought it was. HOWEVER, if our public opinion (which certainly recognized the gesture as a nadsi salute) isn't enough: a political protest group put the picture of musk saluting up on his berlin giga factory via a projector with the word "heil" so that it said "heil tesla". And they got investigated for the same crime that showing the nadsi salute is. So yeah. It was a nadsi salute. We invented it, we can judge it.

As a trans individual, it was incredibly hard for me recently. On January 30th, I was going to get my first T shot, but on the 29th he passed an order preventing insurance from covering gender affirming care, so I could no longer go through with the appointment. I have top surgery scheduled for May 20th, but right now I'm struggling to get a signed letter from a mental health professional saying that top surgery is beneficial for me. I was going to get it on the 6th, but the hospital I go through have paused all gender affirming care while the order is challenged in court.

One of the bigger issues with the DEI rollbacks is that DEI *isn't* necessarily involved in hiring. Rather, it's making sure the workplace is suitable for people with diverse needs. That can something as simple as having a bathroom you can use. It's having workplace accommodations for disability, pregnancy, etc. It's family leave when you have a child. DEI is for people of color, veterans, women, disabled people, queer people, neurodivergent people... It's also recognizing that diverse people have diverse ideas, which can make a company's products *better*.

Moreover, as I've seen some people claiming it could have been a stimming gesture - stims are repetitive and are likely to occur in stressful situations. He did this twice and it looked quite intentionally. I've seen people saying that he literally never stimmed before in any way in public. Finally, stims are usually actions like humming, tapping, playing with your fingers or knuckle cracking, not the freaking n4zi salute

I have American citizenship due to my mother. I also have Mexican and Ecuadorian citizenship. Teachers and classmates who knew about that have treated me differently my entire life, the DEI would have helped me greatly as I live in a red state, I'm white-passing during winter, but during the summer I do very much LOOK Mexican, I've been called racial slurs by POC, internalized racism is SUCH a thing, it shocks me how fully-white people can not care about diversity, diversity isn't just skin color, it's sexuality, weight, everything.
