This was filmed just after her 9th birthday. It is an homage to Screaming Jay Hawkins who recorded this in 1956. She has been listening to jazz greats since she was born, and there's a film of her 'singing' jazz at 18 months old. She won Norway's Got Talent when she was 7. Her journey through that programme is definitely worth watching. She does all of her own arrangements, and you see her making changes even' at the beginning of this film.

The song was written and originally done by Jalacy "Screamin' Jay" Hawkins in 1956. That is his picture on the candle Angelina was holding. She was in charge here too. You see her making last minute arrangement changes at the start. And the sustain on that last note.... At age 13 she appeared on America's Got Talent , and blew the judges away with a version of Queen's Bohemian Rhapsody. Wonderful reaction to Angelina. She is 9 years old here. I'm going to include Andy Schnell's bio of Angelina. I would go to her performances on Norway's Got Talent starting when she was 7 years old. Born Angelina Jordan Astar on January 10, 2006 in Oslo, Norway to her Norwegian mother, Sara Astar and her Swedish father, Gerry Christian Slattman. Angelina started singing around 18 months of age, after listening to Whitney Houston on KZbin. She quickly became obsessed with listening to music videos and her maternal grandmother, Mery Zamani got Angelina interested in classic jazz. Mery Zamani is Iranian and was a prodigy as an artist and poet while growing up in Iran. Angelina attended the Oslo Waldorf School and participated in the Oslo School of Music and Performing Arts after-school program, where starting around age 4, she had training in music but no vocal training. Her teachers were smart enough to not attempt to change what she was doing vocally. More recently she along with her grandmother have designed and made the clothing she wears on stage. Why Angelina always performs barefoot At age 6, while traveling in the Middle East with her mother and grandmother, Angelina noticed a girl around her age standing on the side of the road, asking people to step on her bathroom scale to be weighed in hopes of getting some money. Angelina took off her shoes so as to not get the scale dirty and stepped on the scale many times to make the girl feel better. Angelina befriends the girl who was not wearing shoes and has scars on her feet, and learns she is an orphan. The orphan girl tells Angelina how beautiful she thinks her shoes are. Angelina says her shoes don’t fit her well and she wants to give her shoes to the orphan girl who thanks Angelina for giving her the shoes. Angelina asked the girl what she wanted to be when she grew up and the girl replied, “I want to become a doctor, but that will never happen since I have no parents and I have siblings so I have to do whatever is necessary for us to survive.” Angelina told the girl to never give up on her dreams. The poor girl asked Angelina what she wanted to be when she grew up and Angelina replied that she wanted to sing for the whole world. The poor girl said she would pray every day so Angelina’s dream would come true. Angelina still says she thinks of that homeless girl every day and has always performed barefoot to remind her of all the children who are less fortunate. At age 9, she became the youngest published author in Norway’s history by writing a book about this encounter in the Middle East. PLEASE PURCHASE Angelina’s book from her merchandise store on her official website, angelinajordanofficial Angelina, at age 6 and 7, did record a few songs in a recording studio at her school, most notably “I Who Have Nothing”, a truly remarkable performance for a 7 year old. At age 7, Angelina’s audition on Norway’s Got Talent, was a cover of Billie Holiday’s “Gloomy Sunday”, a song which was banned by a number of European countries during World War II because authorities worried the song would increase the suicide rate. Truly bizarre that this is the song to launch the career of a child musical prodigy. One of the judges on NGT cried. Musicians working with Angelina would call her the boss since she knew exactly how she wanted to sing the song and would confidently instruct the musicians. While one could say Angelina was mimicking other artists, there is no doubt she had her own style and created her own arrangements, even at this early age. Angelina had turned 8 years old for her next performance on NGT, covering Billie Holiday’s “I’m a Fool to Want You” singing acapella which was required by NGT unless the singer also played an instrument while singing. This was the Judge’s cut round of the competition to trim the number of vocalists who passed their audition, and was not performed in front of an audience. In the Semi Final round of NGT, Angelina sang “Bang Bang” which was written by Sonny Bono and was first performed by his wife Cher but is best known sung by Nancy Sinatra. The improvement in each performance is incredible even though there were only a couple months between them. In the Finals, Angelina did a cover of George Gershwin’s, “Summertime” and won the contest, capturing 46% of the votes from the ten finalists. The surviving members of Queen loved it so much they put a link to it on their Twitter and allowed Angelina to copyright her version. Angelina’s family refused to sign any agreement with AGT which would give Simon any control over her career. Angelina, before age 14, had covered more than 130 songs from 80 different artists, spanning at least 8 genres, all of which are available on KZbin. Angelina has always made changes to each song she covers and often her version is preferred over the original. The pandemic hit shortly after her performances on AGT and likely caused a change of plans by her family, most notably her Uncle Michael who is her manager. Opinions are opinions and then there's reality and the reality is that at any age Angelina was, no other singer matches her. I guess time will tell for you when she's at the age of Dimash. Only Angelina's character and humbleness to me is enough to bury Dimash. Dimash is a brilliant singer like all the others we know, but Angelina is everything an artist should have, plus the humbleness and very appreciative to her fans and stays grounded. You might mistake him for a show-off but he is a singer who continuously challenges himself from age 5 up till know first and a showman second. She's basically been a star since she was 7 years old. First and foremost, she is a jazz singer but has the ability to sing any genre. She also does all of her own musical arrangements. Her early influences are Billie Holiday, Dinah Washington, and Etta James to name a few. Her love of jazz came from her grandmother playing jazz music around her when she was young. In 2014, she entered at age 7 and won Norway's Got Talent at the age of 8. With her new found fame, she used it to appear on many shows from abroad and help raise millions for the less fortunate children around the world. At age 13, she was invited to participate on America's Got Talent: The Champions in 2020. She shocked the audience and the judges with her rendition of Bohemian Rhapsody by Queen. She received a standing ovation from all and got the Golden Buzzer from judge Heidi Klum to go straight to the Finals. Her performance went viral and even the group Queen responded on Twitter by saying, " Wow, what a rendition!" Not only that, but she received the copyrights for her version of this song from Queen, which makes it hers now. She did not win, but her fan base grew and expanded her popularity. Why does Angelina sing barefooted? Angelina Jordan is known as "The Barefoot Princess" or "The Barefoot Princess of Jazz," amongst many other names. She always performs barefooted, whether in front of a live audience or during a studio performance. The story is that while living in the Middle East, at 6 years old, Angelina came across an orphaned girl, of her own age, sitting in the street, weighing people on a bathroom scale to earn money. Angelina said to herself, "I would like to share her life for one second to know what it is like to sit alone, wet, and damp, and barefoot in a corner of the street." Angelina could see the girl's bare feet were scarred and that it was cold outside, so she offered her own shoes to the girl. Little Angelina says that she really loved her shoes, as they were very nice and she knew she would miss them. But she saw the other little girl’s need for them, which outweighed her own desire to keep them. So she insisted the little girl take them. Angelina called her Princess, even though the girl said she didn't live in a castle, but the ruins of a building next to where she sat. After sharing their hopes and dreams, the little girl said of Angelina's wish to sing for the world, "You will become the one you dream of and when your dreams come true, you have to remember the poor children without shoes; and I will pray for you Angelina.” Later that day, 6 y/o Angelina wrote in her diary, "The world is very strange. Right then and there, I felt as if a door in my heart opened up, and it was filled with lots of lights. It was as if there was, from Earth to Heaven, a staircase. I climbed the stairs. To be able to do something for another human - it was such a big thing…hard to describe really.” From that point on, Angelina takes off her shoes, in honor of ‘Princess’ and all the other less fortunate children of the world, who are orphaned, hungry, or in want of even basic clothing. This one human has revised how I think about all children on the planet , generated head-shaking reconsideration of nature vs. nurture , faith based consideration of angelic beings, reincarnation and immortal souls. She routinely brings me to tears and makes me feel closer to God and all humanity on the planet without regard to race, religion, nationality, gender or any other difference you can muster. That is a lot for her to carry and I don't need her to DO anything more than she has already done. For me she is a gift from God, likely an angel. May God protect her and guide her always. Thank you for discovering Angelina Jordan. I hope you will do many more reactions to her, as she is well worth every nanosecond you spend on her. I have watched and listened to her in awe since she released her first video on KZbin, and what has been evident to me from the start is that she sings with total conviction, despite the fact that she is far too young to have experienced the events suggested in the lyrics of the song she has chosen to sing. But it is not only that, for strange as it may seem is the even more remarkable fact that she can convey the appropriate emotions within those lyrics to her listener. Angelina was 9 years and 2 months old when she performed this song. It is her tribute to Screamin' Jay Hawkins, who wrote and performed the song in 1956 (50 years before Angelina was born). She based her arrangement on his original performance, although she discarded all the theatrics and allowed her voice and body language to tell the story. The song has been covered by many singers over the years, but to my knowledge, Angelina is the only one who has sung in the same style as the original. There are many things I found particularly worthy of note in this video. Some I recognised immediately and those I missed were brought to my attention by the more observant Angelina fans (her Angels) and I thank them for letting me know what I had missed. Another Angelina "Angel" has pointed out something else which I had missed, and it is added at (l) below, (a) Angelina finishing writing last minute changes she wanted and handing them to the Music Director, who smiled. (b) A brief glimpse of Mery Zamani, Angelina's maternal grandmother, a well known and respected Iranian Artist and poet who was also a child prodigy. She was the person who recognised Angelina's talent at an early age and exposed her to all the old time jazz singers. (c) The candle with an image of Screamin' Jay Hawkins on it. (d) The smile on the face of the Bass player. (e) How she rose on to her toes on the last occasion she sang "...because you're mine" (f) The fact she occasionally refers to her written notes on the music stand. Possibly to remind herself of the last minute changes she wanted. (g) Her unwavering passion throughout the performance. Evidenced by her facial expressions and the way she uses her hands and body to emphasise the direction of the song. (h) The way she takes a breath just before she starts the last phrase (I don't care.....) and that breath lasts the whole of that sustained note. A child of that age should not have the ability to hold a note for that length of time. (i) At the end, when she sings I Doooont Caaaaare, she employs TWO separate and distinct vibratos to the word care, a wide one to start the word and a tighter one to close the word (j) The instant transformation from "performance" mode to that of a pensive child, possibly wondering whether she could have done better. I comment on the "pensive" child because Angelina has an incredible work ethic and seeks to perform every song in a way she considers will bring out all the emotions within the lyrics and melody. (k) Perhaps the most remarkable is that despite her tender years, she sings with such total conviction that her authenticity is never in doubt. It is easy to believe that she has experienced the events described in the lyrics. It is not only her voice that is mesmerising, it is also her facial expressions, and the way she uses her hands and body. Her stage presence is electrifying. (l) The performance absolutely is powerful and raw but to me, I am amazed that this is balanced by the profound beauty of the ending phrase; the last twelve words of the song. AND… they are essentially sung a cappella! Angelina has been referred to as the "Queen of Jazz", "The Barefoot Princess", "The girl with a thousand voices". All of them are true, but I prefer the nickname I gave her after listening to about six of her performances. For me, she is "The Chameleon of Song", for as a chameleon is able to change its colour to match its surroundings, so Angelina is able to change the "colour" of her voice to accurately match the needs of the song to reveal the emotions within the lyrics and melody. Even more remarkable is her innate ability to communicate those same emotions to her listeners.

As you know by now, she was 9 years and two months old. Here is an abbreviated history. Started hearing Jazz and Blues while still in the womb. First recorded singing at eighteen months of age. Started scrolling through KZbin at two going on three looking for Jazz artists to listen to on KZbin. At three she tells her Mother she wants to sing on that Simon show. (Which she does at thirteen) Enters school at four taking normal classes and enrolls in after school program taking music, piano, violin and flute. At five is speaking three languages fluently, Norwegian, Persian and English. At five is studying music theory. At five tells her Mother she wants to sing at the Nobel Peace Prize Concert. (Which she does at eight) At five try’s to audition for Norway’s Got Talent, but is told she must be seven. At six she enters sound booth for the first time and records four songs. Rolling In The Deep, Hurt, Sky Fall and most notably I Who Have Nothing. At six is living in the Middle East where her legend begins. At seven she auditions for Norway’s Got Talent. At eight she wins Norway’s Got Talent. At eight she starts touring the world. Have a wonderful journey. We did. You will be gobsmacked.

While that’s a cute story, it’s not accurate. The band definately knew of Angelina Jordan. The trumpet player accompanied her for her winning performance of “Summertime” on Norway’s Got Talent. Angelina became extremely well known in Norway when she won. It is true that this was Angelina’s arrangement and the band did call her “The Boss”.

At age 8 she was nobled by king and country and to this day her homcountry hold her dear and musicians in the whole world call her THE BOSS. Her spooky instinct for music is stunning. When Angelina asks, not demands:"couldn´t we play tha a key higher???" The musicians knew and know, that is what is best for this song. My thoughts on this performance. I love this performance so much. As they say AJ don't play. We get the most stunning, amazing performance of a 9 yr old of this Jazz standard ever created. I believe it is going to go down in Jazz & Music history as the best ever for this age and in my opinion the best rendition of this song ever created Screamin Jay included. It will be revisited for Decades and will remain relevant for Generations to come. Anyone who discovers this performance for the first time today or a 100 years from today are going to be as amazed and astounded as everybody has been to this point. Think of the children who will be inspired by this one performance in the decades to come. This is an Iconic performance and will always be Iconic. Angelina has on her own from early on at 6 or 7 yrs old reintroduced what I believe will be a whole new Jazz Era and redefined by this young phenom and prodigy. That is astounding! After watching dozens more, I finally dragged myself to bed about 3 a.m.! LOL! I just couldn't believe what I was seeing and hearing. And when I learned the story of why she always performs barefooted, regardless of weather or any other conditions, my heart just melted for her, and I've loved her with a grandfatherly love ever since. Angelina Jordan from Norway is now 17 & she has close to 200 covers & some original songs readily available on KZbin. Angelina won Norway's Got Talent when she was 8, she became Norway's youngest published author at age 9 & at age 14 signed with Republic Records. I have followed her for several years & IMHO she has the innate GOD given gifts of not only a beautiful voice, but also the ability to emote the essence of each song she sings directly to our hearts & souls allowing us to also deeply FEEL her music as it flows through her. No doubt someone has covered this but she's the rip old age of 9 here. For 7 you have to go back to her audition to Norway's Got Talent when she entered singing Billie Holiday Jazz. She eventually sang four songs there and won singing jazz and blues. Angelina does not sing songs. She sings emotions that sound like songs, and has done that since preschool. She's barefoot because she vowed at 6 to not wear shoes when preforming publicly until all needy children have shoes.
