I saw this show that night on tv. Dann Huff is a monster. So underrated as a guitarist.

Just pulled out my Giant CDs today after a while. Love Dann's voice! So sultry and seductive. Great live performance too!

Dann Huff was (and is) such a huge talent. His playing brings to mind Reb Beach, who was hot about the same time this song was.
@SPQRTempus8 жыл бұрын
On one hand his playing sounds so generic because he played on a ton of studio albums of that era. But on the other I find it hard to place his style among contemporary guitarists of that time because most of the bands they played in were a lot heavier than Giant. I would have put Huffs playing style closer to Lukather's than Beach's, primarily because Beach favors legato a lot more.
@martianshoes8 жыл бұрын
SPQRTempus That is a given as they both were studio mavens. I only said he "brings to mind" Beach....maybe just in pure elan.

I always thought Dan sounded a lot like the mighty Lou Gramm. So much talent wrapped up in one guy. AMAZING!!
@LowTone737 жыл бұрын
Gerald Hartley Dann played on Lou's second solo album, Long Hard Look.
@geraldhartley7 жыл бұрын
I did not know that! Very cool. Maybe some of Lou's vocal ability magically rubbed off on him! :)
@LowTone737 жыл бұрын
Dann started out in the Christian rock group, Whiteheart back in the early 80's where he did handle some of the lead vocals but to me his voice got stronger by the time Giant released their first album.
@geraldhartley7 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the info. I knew he went on to be a successful country producer after Giant folded - but didn't know much before that.
@LowTone737 жыл бұрын
Gerald Hartley you're welcome! I've followed Dann since his Whiteheart days. While his playing was very tasteful back then he only got better and better. But yeah check out Whiteheart (self-titled) and Vital Signs. He also played on a Christian rock album, Armed and Dangerous by Matthew Ward. Played on the whole album and check out Rightoeus Anger by Van Stephenson (first album I believe, after Whiteheart). Another album that Dann did all the guitars on. Van would end up co-writing songs with Dann on both Giant albums.

Bad timing(too late)is why Giant didn't succeed like they should've.idk..I followed DH since his Whiteheart days.I don't think the songs they wrote matched HIS vocal style/voice.IMO,He sounds best when he's not straining.He has a full,ROBUST(I like that word!)voice.Of course,high pitched screaming was the order of the day back then.I'm thinking Funky town-Pseudo echo in comparison.
